<DIV>Im a level 23 monk, who has only used fists, Bo & dual staves. Last night I bought a pair of Boiled fistwraps to try out, and found that I couldnt hit at all. Checked skills and they seemed ok, untill I discovered that Fistwraps do crushing damage, and work off the slashing skill. Now not one to moan but how stupid is that. The only thisng I can hit and get skill gain on are greys. So 2 hours bashing greys to get from 56 skill to 81 skill. Still cant hit a green. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This must be some sort of bug. I can see why fists would do crushing damage, but I fail to see why that would depend on your slashing skill. Can anyone confirm a bug, and will this stay or change.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I always keep a pair of wrist wraps and when in big group I'd keep my slashing maxed for that reason, however! We do get piercing too and I've yet to find a weapon I can use to increase my piercing! ANyone know of one?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>The only bad thing about this is our slashing has a low cap on it so we are actually not fighting at full potential even if are slash skill is maxed. This sucks because I love the animation using the wraps. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yenyang Angrydragon </DIV> <DIV>21 Ogre Monk </DIV> <DIV>Kithcore</DIV>

<DIV>If you think about it, it seems to be a mistake, why would fists inflict crushing damaged and use slashing skill?? I think its some sort of bug. Plus if youre correct and our slashing caps out lower, it makes no sense, as fistwraps are most obviously a monk type weapon</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any dev reading enlighten us please</DIV>

It's a continuation of a launch bug. On launch fistwraps were bugged and did slashing damage, slashing skill. One of the early patches corrected the damage type and changed it to crushing, but the skill type was unchanged and remained slashing.Never really bothered me, as it let me keep my skill up for when I got cestii. To increase skill, I recommend keeping a crushing weapon in main hand for atk increase, you'll skill up a lot faster. It also allows you to kill xp instead of working greens since a large portion of your damage is from skill use anyhow.

<DIV>Ya, slashing isnt a monk skill. The only reason we can still slash is because we were fighters until level whatever. Its capped out at that last level we were fighters</DIV>

Cesti are appropriate monk weapons, and they quite correctly use slash skill.I think keeping your combat skills up is part of the deal of being a competent fighter. It's not that hard to do. I quite enjoy having to keep an eye on it, and being encouraged to change weapons occasionally. It's a good part of the game, IMHO.Slash skill cap lower than crush/piercing skill is annoying as hell. I hope it's considered a bug and they fix it soon. If they did that it wouldn't really matter what fistwraps used anyway.

<DIV>Looking at the base description of monks it says weapon types... hammer, staff, club. None of those are slashing. </DIV> <DIV>If we didnt have a slashing limit we would be using swords like a normal warrior. I dont think that really fits into the monk style.</DIV><p>Message Edited by xripperx on <span class=date_text>12-17-2004</span> <span class=time_text>10:14 AM</span>

Slashing isn't a weapon. I've never purchased a pristine slashing. Crushing and pierce aren't weapons either. All three are damage types and not a direct relation to the actual weapons we can wield. As a further example: Paladins are excellent with slashing, but they can't use axes.Additionally, while I don't know what your slashing cap is, mine sure as heck ain't at level 9.

<DIV>Lets skip the symantics...</DIV> <DIV>Slashing (a damage type) caps at a level.. could be 20 when you ding monk. It will never be what crush (yet another damage type) is at. You can use any kind of weapon you want.. but if it doesnt use crush damage you will be using an inferior weapon do to your skill at using it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The reason for Pallys not using axes is because they feel it is bellow the standard of a knight. Same reason a monk would not use a sword...</DIV><p>Message Edited by xripperx on <span class=date_text>12-17-2004</span> <span class=time_text>10:24 AM</span>

Just answering matthewstuder and xripperx simultaneously here:You can get various types of Cestii - ones with blades which use slashing skill, and ones with spikes which use piercing skill. You can use one of each on each hand and raise both skills simultaneously.Your special attacks use the skill of your primary hand weapon.I think they look quite cool.I think shurikens use piercing skill as well as ranged - not sure about that though, just remember once seeing a piercing skill increase when I was chucking one at a mob.Slashing skill is not capped at our fighter level, xripperx. Slashing skill raises the same as crushing and piercing, except it caps 2 points lower, for no reason that I can figure out. It doesn't make a huge difference obviously, but it's a little irritating.Hope this is helpful.

That's interesting - maybe it clears up as you get higher. There's some weird thing with the deflection display for low 20s monks, which I believe fixes itself in the high 20s, maybe it's the same sort of thing?
<DIV>Roflmcboffle, is the idea of a slashing katar that hard to wrap your head around.</DIV>
