Hi all.

As a level 23 monk, i'm always on the look for a newer, better weapon. I'm trying to figure out which is better to go for, dual wielding batons/clubs, or going for a bo staff? Currently I use the Willow Wood Walking Staff. Now, at my level, I make a fine tank, able to keep plenty of agro with just plain ol' attacks and skills, and I achieve much more DPS than a standard tank. However, most higher level monks I see in-game and in posts here seem to talk about the dual clubs/batons they use. My question is this; are higher end monks using dual-wield weapons solely for agro reasons - or do they actually do more DPS?

Also, on the subject of post-level 20 weapon choices, what weapons are our fellow monks using? Feel free to post weapons used, stats, and where yah got 'em.

----------------

Nightstar

23 Monk

Permafrost

----------------

I was using the Makoto staff, but a guildie gave me some shaped Boiled leather fistwraps they have a dps of 1.3 so I might be inclined to switch to these. Any other monks using fistwraps mainly??

I used a pair of Shaped Boiled Leather Fistwraps and was happy with them and their bonuses. I would have used pristine but there is a crafting bug and no one can make those right now. I receently switched to a pair of Pristine Ash Fighting Batons which are also usable by anyone in their 20's and have been very happy with them.

I ma using a pair of splintering quarterstaves (looted in TS) and enjoy them. I am 23 now, and I think they go blue at 24, so it is about time to look for an upgrade.

:smileyhappy:

The reason I use dual wield is for the stat bonuses. Dual weild weapons tend to give only Agi and Str which is what I need the most.

I am going to be using a pair of Firwood Fighting Batons soon, it is dropped by the Rotting Pioneer in TS. +5 agi +3 str on each of them. Not too shabby.

atm ive got a blackened ironwood cudgel, orange at 23 (maxes at 28 or 29 i think) and a splintering quarterstaff. thats blue tho so im lookin for a new wep. also, my guildie friend is makin me some carbonite forged knuckles. the pristine version is amazing, attunable with like 5 agi, 3 str, 20 somethin health and 20 somethin power. plus they dont max till 30, where they do a ton with a delay of 1.7. if u have a friend whos a tailor get him to make u these. get the cool fist animation and incredible damage. the stats r just a tad bit better than a splintering quarterstaff tho

Message Edited by DiscipleoftheScarredMoon on 12-15-2004 06:44 AM

I looted a feyiron cestii from Varsoon a couple nights ago and those are even better, but I think they are level 30ish weapons. I have to admit it does give me some incentive to level up when I can see the great equipment we will be using.

I think two items equipped is better than one. So either it's a shield and a stick, or it's two sticks. Getting the extra stat bonus is definitely worth it, even if the average damage ends up slightly lower. I have yet to see a two-handed weapon that has enopugh extra stats on it to compete with dual wield or 1-handed + shield bonuses.

Edit: fixed typo

Message Edited by RadricTycho on 12-15-2004 08:33 AM

Dusty Blue stone quest, if you choose not to continue getting Ghoulbane you are offered some alternate weapon choices. The quest is extremely simple as long as you have above 90 in mining. One is a very nice dual-wield baton. Usable at level 30.

It's called Toranim's Baton if anyone is interested in looking it up.
