<DIV>i was really hoping to create a dual kuriki wielding monk.. and now i come to find out that we can't even use them... i am big into the martial aspect of the monk as all the other fighters are heavy into armor. but i am considering a re-roll into a different fighter class now that i have found this out <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> i mean why can't a monk at least have a little sword skill? it's not like the only thing they ever use is their fists and sticks <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>If you played EQ 1, you'd know that the Monks are supposedly a priestly sort of profession, thus the love for non-edged weapons.</DIV> <DIV>Though it seems in EQ 2 there is *some* bladed weapons (forgot the name) in the hindu warrior weapons style, called katars or some such.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All in all though, I'd rather not have the monks use any weapons but staffs and fistwraps / knuckles ... I kinda like that approach.</DIV> <DIV>That offcourse would then mean you could have a samurai/nija class that is into bladed weapons, bushido style.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyways, I'm going off on a tangent here ... if you really want small blade fighter sort of thing, a Brigand / swashbuckler is probably for you. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I guess this all depends on your view of a monk. If you think about a Shaolin kind of monk, sure, they should be able to use swords. But Kuriki? (Sure this doesn't mean Kukuri?) Aren't those daggers? I can't really imagine a Shaolin using daggers (I think there are some dagger martial arts, but not really among the well-known martial arts).I personally practice Okinawa Kobudo. From that point of view I dearly miss some Nunchakus, the only weapon resembling Kama (Sickles) are dagger class and I think I haven't seen any Sai yet. And the way Everquest characters hold those fighting batons has really nothing to do with martial arts. But on the other hand, I really love the moves with the staffs. First time I gave my brawler a (1-handed) staff, I loved it. The moves are really great, and resembled extremely what we did with the double-spear in Kung Fu sometimes. I immediately went and bought myself a Bo and still use that.Ok, I'm not totally happy with all the weapon choices either. But on the other hand, until now I have never seen an RPG that could have conviced me as a martial arts enthusiast in terms of character movements. An taking that into account, I am more than happy with the job the Everquest developers did.<p>Message Edited by Lord Horak on <span class=date_text>12-14-2004</span> <span class=time_text>01:56 PM</span>

<DIV>There isn't a lot of games that get goot combat moves, period !</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I think the most convincing game I've had my hands on, was the "Conan : The Dark Axe" game.</DIV> <DIV>Suffice to say, Conan != Monk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>He still had some cool moves though. :smileyhappy:</DIV>

I've seen Sais, but I believe they use the sword skill, maybe the dagger skill, but unusable by Monks either way. Go figure.<BR>
