<DIV>Hi all, I primarily play a cleric, but it's time I started up an alt. I like the idea of being a primary damage dealer, but I'm not sure I'm really thrilled with the scout subclasses. I was in a group recently, a tank, 2 monks, and myself, the healer. No scouts, no mages, and I was amazed at how fast things were killed. It seems like monks are really capable damage dealers, but I thought I get the opinion of some people who've actually played them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks, </DIV>

<DIV>I'm pleased with my DPS so far. I parsed a bunch of stuff last night and was averaging between 22 and 33 dps at level 20 and was tanking. I'm pretty sure my average would have been in the 30s+ if I would have been behind the mob as i had some CA attacks that were parried, riposted, etc. I don't have the exact numbers here at work, but my breakdown was about 1/3 pure melee damage and 2/3 combat art damage... so having the CA skills high is important for dps. Definitely not on scout level, but good.</DIV>

<DIV>Honestly, if you like the idea of being 'Primary' damage dealer, Monk is not for you.</DIV>

The question is what are other classes doing compaired to monks.

If you enjoy doing insane DPS, pick a scout->pred->assassin. The dmg they do is INSANE. Instant dmg is what assassins are all about. Think rogues from EQLive.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Monks are the best dmg dealers out of all the fighters. This means we tank the worst, but we make up for it in utility.</DIV>

Well I would be interested to see how the archtypes stack up damage wise.Would a swashbuckler do 50% more damage then a monk? 100%? 200%?But I am really interested in seeing how monks compare to berserkers and such.
<DIV>I dont think Monks do better damage then Bezerkers. It may be comperable but its not better. Swashbucklers do much better damage then any fighter and they have alot more utility. Things like mez, tuant, smuggle, snoop, track, knockdown, snare, hate reducer buffs, hate increaser buffs, Pathfinding. Im not saying everyone should run out and be swashbucklers, and I dont really think its class envy(I have one after all) The point is that if my monk is getting turned down for groups just becuase hes a monk there is something wrong.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I want my monk to be usefull thats all. Not a last choice option for groups.</DIV>

<DIV>Monk are on the high end of the damage scale for fighters, but will never outdamage a non-bard scout. </DIV>

<DIV>I keep listening to people state matter-of-factly that Berserkers outdamage Monks. Does anyone have any parsed data to support this? This seems something that got carried over from Beta.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I know that they nerfed blood rage for berserkers and now they are not doing as much damage at all. Go check out the Berserker forums.</DIV>

<DIV>I'd be interested to see damage Berserkers dish out.</DIV>
<DIV>I switched my makoto stick for 2 hammers today, with nice stats (Collossus Club and Blackened Iron Cudgel), i must say i'm a pretty mean killing machine now</DIV> <DIV>I quad hit for 15-25, + specials at 90-120 (at lvl 23), i block, parry pretty well also.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I picked barbarian at creation, all geared up i have 60 str, wich makes a little diference in dammage i believe</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Of course monks will NEVER outdamage a scout (wich is very fine, since we are on the tank archetype), but i'm pretty happy with the damage i deal.</DIV> <DIV>With haste , str and agi buffs, i'm unstopable, and no guardian even a berseker can get the agro back from me (unless i succefull FD)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If bersekers deal great damages too that's really fine with me, but we sure have our place in a group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Gear makes the difference though, since i upgraded my equipment to yellow/orange stuffs, i'm a different monk.</DIV>

Last time I used dual wield weapons I was only double hitting, not quadding.</DIV>
<DIV>When i talk about quading..i mean that i manage to hit 4 times between an attemp from the mob.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> it looks like this :</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You hit Mob_01 for 16 damage!</DIV> <DIV>You hit Mob_01 for 22 damage!</DIV> <DIV>You hit Mob_01 for 19 damage!</DIV> <DIV>You hit Mob_01 for 25 damage!</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc0033><EM>Mob_01 tries to hit you but you parry!</EM></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>Your swooping dragon hits Mob_01 for 102 crushing damage</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>Your hit Mob_01 for 22 heat damage</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>You hit Mob_01 for 23 damage!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>You hit Mob_01 for 26 damage!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>You hit Mob_01 for 18 damage!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc0033><EM>Mob_01 tries to hit you with crushing blow but you block!</EM></FONT></DIV> <DIV>...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So it's still Dual wielding, but so fast that i hit the mobs generally 4 times before he can land a blow</DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#ffcc66>I don't parse numbers or anything, so I'll just share an anecdotal experience. The other day, while hunting antelope for Trapper Borgus in Thundering Steppes, I came upon an area with two antelope, one white and one blue, and a level 25 Paladin. My character at the time was level 23. The Paladin was wielding a two-handed hammer, and he jumped on the blue antelope, which had to have been green to him. I took the white, starting my fight seconds after him. After killing my even-con opponent with no difficulty, I turned to leave and noticed that the Paladin was still fighting the blue. As I ran off in search of more antelope to complete the quest, he faded into the distance...still swinging that hammer. At that moment I became aware that, as far as fighters go, I made a good call by going Monk.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffcc66></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffcc66>Make of that what you will.</FONT></DIV>
