<DIV>Just a monk role-playing thing .....There are some moves that are so difficult to execute that there is no way to complete them without injuring yourself, but the results is extra damage output.</DIV>

<DIV>You punch someone hard in the face, chance are you break your hand...  No different in game.  Take bruising strike as an example.  You take like 8hp dmg but deal over 100hp.  I'll take that <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

Actually I take about 40 damage from brusing strike. Examine the skill it tells you how much life it costs.

<DIV>It takes 4% from my life pool but in any group situation it's more than worth it. It's very gratifying to see 100+ with bruising strke, followed by 120+ with swooping dragon, then 40 30 30 40 with rapid swings, then 60s-80s x 2 with kicks... it gives me the illusion that we deal good DPS <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But to answer your question... how many creative things can you possibly think of in terms of unique attacks? It's either deal dmg to yourself to deal more dmg to the opponent, or another "extra attack" skill that's bland and boring (refering to wild swing and various kicks). </DIV>

<blockquote><hr>Ceeje wrote:<DIV>I simply don't get it...</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>:smileysad:</DIV><hr></blockquote>To balance their damage/usefullness. Bruising Strike is the most damaging brawler attack given equal skill ranks to a certain pointm rapid swings adept 3 does signifcant damage, and the health cost is not that high for it's high damage.

<DIV>I usually use Bruising Strike to finish off a mob when its very close to being dead, especially if its a caster.  If you are able to time your Rapid Swing + Bruising Strike right behind each other, you can clear 300 damage (App3+ on both skill at lvl26) on green to white con mobs.  Very usefull if you are trying to finish off that pesky healer.</DIV>

<DIV>I don't get this post, for starters.  It's a balance thing.    Where's the confusion?  </DIV>

<DIV>Try changing the way you look at it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Stop looking at it as a self-damaging ability</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Look at it as an ability that has a power cost, and a health cost.</DIV>

Brusing strike is great to use when you are not tanking. You will never do enough damage to yourself to make a differnce and its more DPS.Now I wouldnt use it if you are tanking.

totally agree with blaze. since i suck at tanking, i never tank! which means the 40(or whatever it is) hp loss is no big deal and i use the skill every time i can.

<DIV>Bruising Strike is even more worth it since the patch that increased damage at level 20+.  For me it used to cost 80health and did between 60-90 damage.  Now it costs 80health and does between 90-160 damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Unfortunately, contrary to the description text, you lose health regardless of whether or not the strike hits.</DIV>
