View Full Version : Monk choices... tradeskill and stat bonuses!
<DIV>Hello all monks!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I played a monk on EQ1 up to around 50, then quit for a year. But I'm back!!! And loving it!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But monks are different now... I think we are still trying to find our roles... less pulling, more tanking, hehe.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyways, my questions are:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Which tradeskill do you think would be the most beneficial to have as a monk who plays casually and splits soloing / grouping about 50/50?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was thinking that I might make a good chef, as food seems to be the key to regen, and that is vital for soloing...</DIV> <DIV>I was thinking tailor so I could make nice armor without paying a ton of money...</DIV> <DIV>I was thinking anything else if it would make money because I was chronically poor in EQ1 and had the worst gear on my server! 8p</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And I haven't read anything about stats affecting chances with tradeskills... would I be better at a "crafting" skill, as I have a very high agility? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Next question:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What choices do we get as we advance in tewrms of bonus skills / bonus traits / etc...?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Do we get to choose what stat increases we get, or does that come automatically with class path? (Sorry to sound like a noob, don't have my manual with me at the moment, and I just started playing the other day...) I know we get to enhance abilities, etc... but I haven't been able to find any info on what people are finding useful and what they aren't!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks so much!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Loqii</DIV> <DIV>Level 6 Monk</DIV> <DIV>Antonia Bayle Server</DIV>

<DIV>Howdy, I have monk who is also a tradeskiller. I cannot answer all your questions but about TSing provisioning (making food) is the only ts class that is not heavily interdependant (well alchemists too) so being a 'casual' crafter who just makes items for themselves is a bit more difficult since it takes a reasonable investment of time to: </DIV> <DIV>a. Keep your gathering skills up to par with your crafting level</DIV> <DIV>b. Keep your crafting level above your adventuring level so you can use what you make to the greatest effect, my 23 tailor just passed what my 15 brawler can wear. And it took me 2-3x as long to get the tailor levles if you factor in time harvesting and getting components.</DIV> <DIV>c. Make enough deals to get the materials you need to craft at all from other players. A good guild can help. Although even for a guildie the prospect of making 100 grey interim components for no xp so they can level is pretty depressing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I like the crafting system they have in this game, much more interactive than most booring click-fest crafting systems. But I can allreay see how hard it would be to be a hardcore adventurer who crafts on the side. Not to mention unless you have a monopoly you will probably make more cash killing mobs than crafting, at least at tier 2-3.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for abilities, Agi and Stam are allways good imo.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-drjones</DIV>
<DIV>Excellent question... I hit lvl 21 Monk last week and burned myself out over the Thanksgiving vacation so I'm looking at crafting. I'm just a lowly lvl 3 artisan and just got my gathering skills up to par yesterday (well, over 40 I still need to hit over 100). </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was thinking about becoming a chef. But I don't see stats on any food? I'm still looking around and I love selling stuff. It's a real pain in teh butt to have to be online but its great to hear the "ching" if home reading a book or whatever.</DIV>

<DIV>I'm a 23Monk 13Scholar who is going for Alchemist. One reason, and one reason only, so I don't have to depend on anyone else to make my skill upgrades. Granted it's gonna take a long time to lvl both as an adventurer and a craftsman, but we all have those days where the grouping ain't going well, or we're just burned out from fighting, and crafting is a nice break from that. In addition, Alchemists are in high demand by other crafters for the washes and resins they can make.</DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=7><FONT size=2>I picked outfitter... but I want to be a crafter now. </FONT></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=7></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=7>Luckily there's plenty of permanent unchangable decisions waiting for you in EverQuest II</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=7></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=1>thanks 1*</FONT></DIV><p>Message Edited by Coraz2 on <span class=date_text>12-01-2004</span> <span class=time_text>01:42 PM</span>
<DIV>I was looking at provisioner today to make food buffs but it seems they are just not worth it for one reason, stat enhancements are NOT LISTED so no one knows what you are buying?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm now leading towards alchemist for hte smae reasons mentioned above, I would love to make my own skill upgrades, and they will always be in demnd.</DIV>

Odd...I'm a 14 Outfitter and I can make yellow armor for myself, a 17 brawler. You know what these boards need? More stupid statements typed in superscript and all caps. Yeah, that'll help!

<DIV>You will be able to use pristine tier 2 gear at 17 of course but you can also use lower qual tier 3 gear. Not to mention I think you would need to be in the 16-17 range to make a full set without pulling your hair out over the chest/legs. So yeah you don't have to be in front of your adventuring class but if you want the best gear possible you will want to be.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-drjones</DIV>

<DIV>I'm a 20 monk and 17 outfitter (heading towards tailoring). My original idea was that I could make all my gear by myself without having to pay out the nose for upgrades. If I could changed I would probably pick something other than outfitter now, reason being most of the Armor Quests are better than what I can make at my level (making pristine tanned atm) and unless there's some change later on in high skill tailoring I see this being the trend all the way up. And everyone and their mothers are doing AQs so its not very hard to jump in on a group and gear yourself through quests.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Provisioner : power regen or Alchemy : combat scrolls seems to make the most sense.</DIV>
