maybe ur 1h weapon uses pierce or slash as weapon skill instead of crush as for bo staff, and u r not advanced in those skills yet?

Cestii's/Cestus require Pierce and Slash Cyphus, among other weapons.

Get some player made cestii to work on slashing. Not sure which ones use piercing.
