Ok I have a question or two! First of all I am level 19 Brawler and 20 is just around the corner. I have been reading in some areas that Monk is for good and Bruiser is for evil. 1. Does this mean if I am in Qeynos I will not be able to select Bruiser? 2. I like to tank some and wondered if there was a difference in the tanking ability of either of these two. Thanks in advance for your replies. Jolcon
<DIV>hey Jolcon!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you are level 19 and in Qeynos, then when you hit 20 you will be a monk. I believe from what I have read the main difference between the bruiser and monk is the bruiser is ever more damage intensive and the monk is more defensive. It still a slight difference between the two. According to Sony, both being of the fighter arch-type can tank. A monk with a ward on them from a shaman makes for a great tank with our avoidance and deflection.</DIV>

<DIV>I have seen Zero Ratonga monks.... that what I was wanting to be because of 30 agility and kick **ZOMG** lil rat kung fu man. But why do I not see any? Is 10 str too low?</DIV>
<DIV>Connfuzion - Although initially you might see a little less damage than other, in the long run, all stats equal out with equipment. You sound really into playing a ratonga monk so go for it. </DIV>

<DIV>Hello! My main character is a 22 Dark Elf inquistor, and I wanted to see queynos and play a melee character, so I chose a High Elf monk. My questions are these: Can a Monk tank decently? And are they more DPS then the other fighter types? Also, does agility effect a Monk more than it would another archtype? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>P.S I grouped with you before you betrayed Zinno, you were one my frist experiences with a good tank. Just thought I would let you know.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Talmithe 22 Inquisitor - Nektulos Server</DIV> <DIV>Morrad 7 Fighter on the road to become a monk</DIV><p>Message Edited by Messalina on <span class=date_text>11-22-2004</span> <span class=time_text>03:46 PM</span>
<DIV>Hey Messalina,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yep we sure do tank decently. We tank by avoiding hits rather than absorbing them. We get several specials skills and stances that allow us to trade off some of our offense for defense. We do tend to do a little more dps than other fighter types, but not a whole lot. Agility does benefit a monk as its the primary stat that affects our dodge and deflection. Hope these answer your questions.</DIV>

Quick question. Later on if I go monk, does the fighting style reflect martial arts? For example, would my character have a stance and perform Kung-Fu like moves? Or boxing? The answer to this question really will determine the fate of my character, for pure RP purposes of course.
<DIV>At 20, my fighting style did change. The attacks I had up until then looked mostly the same, but fist fighting i have a cool starting animation that stretches my arms out to the side and flicks my hands as i ready myself. All in all pretty neat!</DIV>

<DIV>Here's a question for you regarding skills, I just wanted to be sure on this:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Deflection - This acts as a damage absorber, right? Rather than avoiding damage altogether this skill lessens that inflicted?</DIV> <DIV>Dodge - The ability to actually avoid damage, yes?</DIV> <DIV>Parry - Additional ability to "dodge" a blow through weapon use, right?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am just wondering, as I've seen the threads about Monks making such a great tank, if the Deflection is to us what the heavier armor are to the more traditional tanks?</DIV>

Then you won't be tanking much of anything. And if you are tanking at that level, your group needs to move on and fight something harder. Same thing as all these berserkers claiming they're tanks. Guardians will have almost 1k higher AC than them after lvl 40+. The classes really start to evolve later on in the game.
<DIV>Ive tanked everything from Holly windstalker to Thundering steppes and StormHold with no problem. Im just level 21 monk but using brawler stance we do fine. And we do real decent damage if were not tnking. overll its a very fun class to play.</DIV>

<DIV>Thanks for picking up my slack while ive been gone all those that have been helping with this thread...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Concerning the monks damage mitigation skills, I would say that deflection has something to do with Riposte and such, Dodge being just that, dodge, and parry... hmmm, another dodge. If youw atch the combat text it often tells you what you do when an attack misses you.</DIV>
<DIV>I have to disagree with Shizno. Not sure what level Shizno is, but like Lebru, i have tanked Holly Windstalker and white and yellow ^^ in Stormhold and Antonica no problem at level 21 as a monk. You have to be on your toes, know what skills and stance to use, but I tank quite well, especially grouped with a shaman. </DIV>
