View Full Version : 2handed Weapons in PvP
I know this road has probably been travelled a million times. All my guildies are telling me to go dual weilding axes on my zerk. I love my 2h great axes and polearms and they seem to deal adequate dps. They basically layed it out like this...2h - UselessDual Weild - DPSShield and 1h - Shield Bash StunSo whats the verdict. Can I still be a good viable pvp'er with a 2h axe or is it inevitable that I eventually sucecede and switch to one of the others. PS: I'd prefer an explanation rather than "2h sucks"

I take it your guildies aren't Zerkers or Guardians. Unless you are max specced via AA for dps you may want to grab the stamina line and get a buckler/1hander for pvp encounters. I've tried all 3 and it has brought me the most success so my opinion is based off experience. There are some classes who can out dps you even at your best but against 75% of the classes the buckler is king. Much of the advice you will get is based of blue server tanking etc. and your guildies may be even used to that, grab a buckler and rampage like hell.

Here we go, finally someone has asked the question.2handers are MUCH better in PvP than dual wield. Those who are going to say other wise can come fight me on Venekor and ill enjoy putting you in the ground. Heres why.Your using a good 2hander, lets say your auto hitting for 600 or so. Your around 100 haste so hitting pretty fast. Your fighting a group of 2 players, 1 wizzy 1 defiler, both blue to you. *Scene set*You run in with rampage and open wounds, your downing both of them equally fast. Rampage ends, you get the wizard to around 5% then swing again and he dies. You go off and kill the defiler and all is good. Now, same again but with dual wield weapons, Rampage ends and that wizzy is at 5%... you swing, but hes still alive? Defiler pops a big heal and hes back up to 60%, your rampage is down and your thinking.. this just got harder. *End*Basically, the big hits in PvP are MUCH more important. Yes there are some good dual wield weapons out there, but the amount of times my auto attacking for 800 or so has been the saving factor in a big fight is unreal. With my haste + rampage + open wounds i'm now taking on 70 scouts at 64, and having success. I have tried Dual Wield and it doesnt work to the same degree. If anyone disagree's they are doing it via Raid mechanics or PvE, or they are simply not performing on a PvP server. I've changed several peoples views on using shield and 1 hander or dual wield to using 2 handers, it does work.Hope that helps people!

I hunt solo 90% of the time and against other 70s when I do get a 1v1 outside of pure healers I have the over. C lick my sig, look at my setup, stats and records. I started off DW thinking it would have decent dps but DW without the double-attack line in STA just doesnt compare to a 1h/buckler. The deaths are attributed mostly to the time between levels 50-60 when I was a 2handed Zerker... but then again now at 70 I have all the tools of our trade at my disposal.

PvP fights with a buckler drains the life out of your enemy unlike any 2-hander will, Zerkers don't get big hits we get huge dps. Try the 2hander for a bit and see if it fits your play style, when you start having issues with Monks, Paladins and Scouts I would pick up a buckler and see if it does any better for you. Look at the wisdom line for Belly Smash, starting many of my fights off with it usually makes for an easy fight.

Personal preference is the best advice, if you are one of those (I look silly with a buckler) type zerkers then ya DW looks really cool and 2Hander is nice. If pvp "big hits" don't work for you lol, get a buckler and spec sta/str/wis. Without getting into a forum nerd [Removed for Content] contest, I reiterate try all of them out, who knows maybe your dual wield style will work for you. Just make sure you keep asking Zerkers about it and not some know-it-all scout or mage-type.

Well I have so far tried dual weild and 2h. It seems that dual weild puts out more damage but I think its an illusion of the eye with more numbers popping up. I'm going to do some testing ect and continue to look. BTW the guildies both have zerkers one uses shield, one uses DW. Maybe I should show them whats up with 2h

You might also consider going an in between route which I prefer, I went Wis/Sta route with end Wis talent (for PVE purposes however, especially with the recent changes) however if you find a decent slow 1hander like the Battlehammer of Might 72 ish DPS rating and 2.5 second delay, you pretty much get the best of both worlds. Hard hit as it is slow, double attack meaning more slow hard hits, and buckler for aviodance and bellysmash. This keeps me from having to swap weapons to make Open wounds and Destruction useful to their full potential.
