Hi, I am fairly new to the game, as I began playing about two weeks ago. In that time I have leveled a Bruiser to level 25 and a Brigand to level 20. I quickly discovered that I enjoy my brigand much more than I do my bruiser despite having played a Monk in EQ I. This preference stems mainly from my concern with the bruiser's utility in a group and raid setting. While I know I am far from raiding, I have heard negative things about the Bruiser's use in those situations. As for grouping, while I have played the role of tank and DPS, I have found that healers prefer to have Guardian tanks, and everyone prefers a Scout for DPS. On my brigand, however, I find that groups are always interested in taking me along, as rake and other debuffs help greatly. So in my search to find a new class to replace my bruiser ( I always like to have 2 characters,) I came across the seemingly perfect class of the Berzerker. Tank? Of course, and plate to boot. DPS? Well, that is a mighty big sword you've got. Coolness factor? Uhh... unbridled hate does it for me. So, is it ture? Are berzerkers as welcome in groups as I hear, and are they as good soloers as I have been informed? Right now it's between Zerker and Shadowknight, so if you would be so kind, please inform me why the Berzerker class is the overall best choice. Thanks, and I look forward to one day owning red armor and a bladed two-by-four.

Avarice- 20 Brigand (Kithikor)

Mirari- 25 Berzerker (Kithikor)

if you are looking for a plate tank to replace your bruiser but still want to do DPS, i do suggest a serker. i have a 33 Sk and a 30 serker, and atm my serker is a lot more fun. i have been told that we become really good DPS at 40, so im going to push him all the way there with a mentoring 65 inquis. so far it is a hefty duo. my killing atm is slow, but i have some decent gear and damage is not too heavy to heal unless i get a healer add. hate healer adds lol. SK can FD, summon a [Removed for Content] temporary pet, and do some okay spell damage. takes a lot of work imo. my serker just stands there and does damage without actually attacking. the provoking defense line is one of my favorites just for the riposte/hate gain it provides. i dual wield and i have a couple 2handers for when i want to DPS or solo. i have the best shield i can afford and a nice 1-hander for when im tanking in groups or for when i want to test my abilities against yellow ^^^ mobs. most healers do prefer plate tanks. SK and pally more because they make the healers job a little easier by their forms of extra healing help - lifetap / wards etc. but they do not hold the aggro that a serker or guardian can, and a serker is IMO better overall DPS so far. i still have not picked an AA line. so far it is between wisdom and stamina. i really want the wisdom ability that removes penalties from stances, but i heard sta line is awesome DPS, so we shall see GL either way you go, but hopefully we will be welcoming you as a serker

If they need a pickup DPS, they invite me. Best part of having an extra tank in the group is the security. If the MT goes down (or healer) you can peal agro and tank while a rez is arranged.

I hardly ever solo unless no one my level is on. When I do solo I can complete any of the white-yellow level solo quests without a problem. You might run into an issue at lower levels, but once you hit 40 you can prepare to be amazed!

obviously everything is situational, but generally, out of the 3 classes you named:

The most likely to get in on someone else's raid:

1. Brig

2. Bruiser

3. Zerker

The most important role on a raid:

1. Zerker (if MT, which is unlikely unless you are your guilds MT)

2. Brig

3. Bruiser

The best for soloing (arguable)

1. Bruiser

2. Zerker

3. Brig

The best for grouping:

EVEN: all 3 classes should have no problem whatsoever finding a group as they all do excellent DPS, zerker and bruiser tank, while brig debuffs.

Message Edited by arieste on 10-17-2006 12:46 PM
