I just started an Ogre zerk and I'm having trouble against even con mobs, even cut a few fights close with lower ones. I'm only level 10 but have 3 of my buffs at adept3. Armor and weapons aren't great, I crafted them. I'm just not used to having trouble with mobs my level. Every other character I created was able to take yellow con mobs without much difficulty. Anyway, even con mobs will get me to orange or even red. Occasionally I also lose. Does it get better or are my problems from being an Ogre with atrocious agility? This is a new character that I wanted to eventually betray and I really have no money to buy better gear yet. My main is a monk and I'm used to beating named 5-6 levels below mem is this possible with a Zerker? Sorry for the noob questions and thanks for any help you can offer.<div></div>

After rereading what I wrote I realized I may need to clarify. Basically what I'm wondering is how difficult will it be to use an ogre with such low agility? Is it the cause of problem now and will it continue to be an issue unless I load up on +agi gear? I know I shouldn't jusge much since I'm still such a low level with this character but as I mentioned it's certainly much harder to play and took much longer to get to 10 than I'm used to.<div></div>

I ran an Ogre and Dark Elf Berserker up to level 10 and found the same problem with both; shrug. I think it's the class not the race. <div></div>

The way i look at it is, this obviously your first character. You know how and where to level so you do it a little quicker than you used to. This in-turn starts to leave your defense, parry and weapon skills behind. You may need to take a little time and get those up because chances are they are behind the cap and it hurts bad. Probably your gear too, depends though are you talking iron or tin when you say crafted. If you are still on tin and dont have much money head over to south freeport and buy some iron platemail for the mitigation its got alot over that tin.<div></div>

Zerkers and Guardians do not get good untill 3-4 tiers into the game. Another thing to note, You are your equipment. If it sucks you suck, if its godlike you are godlike. <div></div>

<P>I started a Ratonga berzerker the other day, and then did the betrayal to get him to the Queynos side so I could play with my friends. I noticed that the mobs I fought on the Queynos side seemed easier than the ones in the Commonlands. I noticed that a lot of the creatures near the Freeport gates were the kind with the little decoration brackets around the con area of the target window. A lot of the mobs near Qeynos gates were 1 or 2 down - arrow regular mobs. I'm thinking that makes some of the difference - you could try to roll up a Qeynos berzerker and see if that is the case for you.</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>I love my zerker (Ogre). Just made him last weekend and got him to lvl 23 last night. All master crafted stuff on at lvl 22 - at 23 I have over 1700 hp and ~1300 mit he is a freaking beast with over 50% avoidance solo too. Everyone in the group at this time was 22 - dirge/troub/wizard/swash/me the healer LD'd and we took ALL of SH, nothing could stop us =) and I believe it's only going to get better. Being the tank is my fav and I think I found a tank that suits me, gotta test a fae guard with EoF comes out though =)</DIV>

How were the early levels? How did you get 50% avoidance? My avoidance is horrid, it's 8 if I remember correctly (haste is -6 though I may have them backwards). I have full set of pristine iron gear (can't afford mastercrafted, first character on Freep side) but do have blackened iron breastplate that I made. I'm at 12 and even cons are still a bit of a fight as my damage isn't great and I get beat on too much while yellows are completely out of the question.

If youw anna to keep avoidance high each level then you gotta tank to improve your defense and parry skills. 50% is doable in defensive stance and with a shield.. Could be done in full offense and with shield if gear is fabled I think.</P> <P>I had my avoidance to drop to virtually 0% when I turned in lot of collection items at lvl 20 to my zerker alt heh but nice to have instant many level ups in one single stroke. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> It took me a while to max out my defensive/parry skill in Nek against greens heh.</P><p>Message Edited by Nocifer Deathblade on <span class=date_text>09-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:36 AM</span>

Nope, didn't level through collections, let mobs beat on me all 12 levels so Def and Parry are maxed. I forgot about shields, been dual weilding since creation since I'm not tanking for a group and been in offensive stance to try to get the fight over faster. It takes forever to kill something now, hate to see how long it takes with sword and board in defensive stance but it would certainly keep me from taking as much of a beating. Most even mobs get me into low yellow or orange by the time I kill them right now.

To boost it up a lot make sure you are wearing a shield. And yes the early levels were not that great, no fight really but MAYBE a bruiser/monk do great in the early levels but they start to shine. Any class you like will turn out much better as you stick with it - thus far I love dirge/zerk/bruiser/necro - all but the zerk is 40+ atleast =)</DIV>

Do you have all Apprentice I combat arts? I noticed last night after upgrading most skills to Apprentice IV there was a noticiable difference in how fast I could kill even or yellow-con mobs. I was very surprised at what a difference just App IV made... Hoping for lots of rare gathering to get some Adept III's in there. (now a lvl 16 Ratonga Zerker)<div></div>

<DIV>Truthfully, the only time racial choice makes a difference with almost any character is very early on... stick it out and you'll surely see it get better. I dont recall having any problems at all with mine, although I chose halfling, which is opposite, low str and high agi... gear is important, so are CA upgrades, as they are for any tank class. Keep in mind too that a zerker is primed for group fights, you'll shine more against groups of lower con than against single higher cons. This will become more apparent the higher you get. For the CA's, make sure you get your stance upgrades as high as you can, theyre important overall. I cant remember which abilities you get with what levels (and Im too lazy to look them up) but i like to use the defensive stances when I'm going with no shield, and the offensive when I've got sword and board. If a mob is real tough, or you have some dps backup, go ahead and go full defensive with shield, or vice versa, go full offense with dw or 2h if you arent main tanking or taking on easier critters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck.</DIV>

<DIV>assuming that both people behind the controls are equal, yes. But that's not what you said. I'd much rather have a person in my group/raid that knows what they are doing (meaning they don't suck) with slightly less gear, than someone with the best gear in game, and never really learned their class very well or just bought their character off ebay (meaning they suck).</DIV>

<div></div><div></div><div></div>In a group with a healer the equipment difference wouldnt be as noticable, but he was talking about being solo i thought, which it would make a world of difference. I know from experiance, im a 48 zerker running around SS in blue berry hued bettle shells as armor =p Im on a pvp server and Id say Legendery armor is better then Mastercrafted for the resists, alot of Mastercrafted armor now a days has some pretty crappy resists on it. Ice Comet hurts when they catch me out of def stance.<p>Message Edited by belikeron on <span class=date_text>09-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:42 PM</span>
