Okay I'm a level 70 raid tank and I'm trying to get my avoidance over 70%. Right now I sit at 68.1% Raid buffed. I'm maxed on Sta/Str/Agi. Weve got the dirge who gives me another 10% or so. Here's my problem. With my current equipment/agi AA line, im sitting at 31 defense. I can't remember if leveling gave defense options ( I dont think they did) but if they did I'm sure I took them. So I'm assuming I have 31 defense total. I'm thinking I'm wasting my time putting 8 points in dragoons avoidance, which increases defense, because in doing some tests, when I cast weapon aegis (at master 1 supposedly increases defense by 33) my avoidance doesnt go up at all. This leads me to believe that my defense is already capped. Is there any line commands that show what my total defense is? Does anyone know what the defense cap is? Am I just missing something?

Defense and Parry are capped at 420 at level 70, and as far as I know, avoidance is capped at 70% against a mob of your level.

Depending on your race you may have had a DEF choice - I know iksars get a +DEF racial choice, and some others may as well.

yea, defense is capped at 420. When I put on different equipment to give me 425, my avoidance doesn't move. I went down the agility line for the added + defense, but with all the gear out there with +defense on it already, I'm seriously considering re-doing them, and going down the Int line for the parry. My parry is at about 380, so it could use some more. I think a hit first checks your parry any way, so getting this as high as possible, I would think would be more important.

Ya, I have the +33 defense ability (it's called suppresed rage) at master 1 too...but since I'm already capped, it's pretty much worthless, so I've removed it from hot bar, for now. When I do decide to respec the AA's and try the parry instead of the defense, then it will be useful again. Even more of a reason to go for the parry instead of defense, cause we don't have a spell to give us added parry, like we do defense.

Message Edited by FightGame on 05-01-2006 08:03 PM

FightGame wrote:
I think a hit first checks your parry any way, so getting this as high as possible, I would think would be more important.

Actually (unless basic math doesn't hold up in this case due to some factor I'm unaware of), the total between the two should cancel out the same amount of damage, regardless of the order checked.Example (using arbitrary parry and mitigation numbers):• Assuming 25% of attacks parried, and 50% of damage mitigated:100% total damage incoming75% gets past parry (25% parried)37.5% gets past mit (50% of the remaining 75% mitigated)• Assuming 50% of attacks parried, and 25% of damage mitigated:100% total damage incoming50% gets past parry (50% parried)37.5% gets past mit (25% of the remaining 50% mitigated)This is, of course, in the most simple terms, and using them mit and avoidance tanks should be exactly equal if their def and mit totalled cancel out the same amount of damage. That doesn't always happen, but in theory that's how it should work. Of course, parry is all or nothing and mit works on every hit, so with the 2nd example above that incoming damage would come in less predictable increments, but that's a whole other ball of wax.

Ya, I guess it doesn't matter, but still, my main point was, we have tons of equipment with +defense on it, and we have a spell that gives us +33 defense. It's not hard to cover cap on defense...so upping your parry will probably be a better route.

Im starting to doubt a zerk can hit 70% i sit at 69.9% raid buffed. My parry is like at 435, my defense is at about 440, my agility was like at 530. adn i have a shield with 1421 shield factor so i dont know hat else i can add to up my avoidance. Has any zerk out there gotten to 70%?( that is without using the buckler bug)

Well I respec'd my AA's and put 8 into the parry, instead of 8 into the defense. Since I'm going for as much mit and avoidance as possible, I also put 8 into the first step of agility (this gave me about 50 more agility, I think). I kept my other points the same (8 into mitigation), but they had no affect on avoidance anyway. This is probably not the "best" build, for me, or anyone, but I've decided on 3 defensive builds, and I'm going to run the parse for some time on each, to see how much damage I take with each. I plan to turn off my buffs that proc damage (etc) so they will not be a factor. Also will be solo, so any group buffs won't affect it, and to fight mobs using auto attack only and find some that won't kill me quick doing this, so that the fight lasts for some time, to get good averages.

Doing this gave me 3.2% more avoidance, overall, and I'm able to use my master spell that gives me +defense, for a small bonus. Self buffed (w/o 30 sec buffs), my defense is now 411 and my parry is 409. I haven't checked my avoidance when raid buffed lately. I'll try that soon and post back, to see if I can hit 70%. Also, making this change probably doesn't help when tanking raids, because I'm probably at cap already for defense and parry...but in groups or solo, I think 3.2% more avoidance and a tad more when I use my +defense spell will help a little. But, I'm missing the dragoons cyclone (the 24% chance for auto attack to be aoe)....choices choices. I'd really like about 11 more points to do everything!

And since I'm trying the parry in the inteligence line, I've picked up this ability that increases my acceleration by 1. Can anyone tell me what acceleration is, and how much "1" is?

Message Edited by FightGame on 05-05-2006 01:49 PM
