Ok Ok, I'm going to start out by satisfying all of you potential flamers / tank-v-DPS argument people out there. Yes berserkers are tanks. Yes in about 99% of my operation I play a very successful group tank. Yes I enjoy tanking and am not in groups based on potential AoE DPS.

With that out of the way, this post is not about the tanking aspect of my life. It is based on the 'how can I help the guild the very most' aspect. I am in a guild that has a VERY stable MT (Guard for all of you that are wondering) and an equally stable MA/OT (SK, but that is besides the point of this post). This leaves me the opportunity to be a great grinding/single group content tank, but it leaves me with little use in the raid for the increase in Mitigation/Parry/Avoidance/Whatever it is that everyone thinks it the best AA path to take for tanking. To cut this argument off at the knees, no I will not reroll a scout/mage. It took me most of my spare time to get to the level that I’m at and I am not going to make a new toon and start over as a twink. Plus I find that I do a great job as a single group content tank.

What I really want to know (and I know there are some of you out there that are right there with me) is what is the best DPS AA selection for a Berserker that wants to help out their guild. PLEASE PLEASE I ask for only DPS AA ideas, hence the subject matter of the post.

I was personally thinking of going:

Str - 5/4/8/0/0 for the Crti%

Wis - 4/4/8/0/0 for the DPS

Int - 4/4/8/0/0 for the Attack Rate

I am under the impression that maxing out my DPS, Attack Rate, and Crit% will improve my overall DPS output in a raid.

Some issues that I have heard mention on (while sifting through the million posts on Tanking AA paths) are as follows: Crits are underpowered, haste cap can be a large issue, Agi AoE can possibly break mez, and wearing a buckler (and hence a 1h weapon) is lame. I don’t personally have any input on these issues so please don’t think that these issues are my opinion; they are just what I have gleaned from the various posts already on the board.

I have particular interest in the possibility of dropping the Int line for sta lines double attacks with a 1her, but I’m under the impression that that will be less overall DPS than a big 2her with the full 8 points into attack rate.

Any input (specifically number driven and not preference based) will be GREATLY appreciated, and any legitimate criticisms will be take very kindly.

Looks like great minds think alike, that is the exact same setup i'm going with. In raids, using a phat 2h with a high dmg rating I'm critting for 3500-4K+ (with dispatch), and with the haste I'm hitting more often. I have found that I can just leave auto-attack on and parse pretty well, and if you get a 2h with a longer delay and time your CA's b/w auto-attack hits you can get some sick DPS numbers. I went STR, AGI, WIS line for a few raid night and just didn't notice any major DPS increase...plus (as expected) I tended to pull much more aggro b/c of AE procs (especially the 3500 crit kind...mobs don't like that). So yeah, this setup seems great. If you are a hardcore sheild/tanking zerker then this setup is not for you, but if you love your DPS then this setup is top notch, no problem.
I see my attack speed maxxed out (100%) many times with our berserker proc + other people's buffs. It's harder to get the DPS.

So instead of doing Intelligence, do 4-4-8 in the agility for the 24%(?) chance to AoE, imo.

^~~~ isn't a true statement, just refers to the type of ppl you group withillusionist/troub/monks give haste buffswhilecoercers/dirges/bruisers give dps mods

imo, a true statement

regardless of whether it's maxxed out or not, I think you'd get more from 24% AoE.

Message Edited by FightGame on 04-16-2006 02:27 PM

I'm not lvl 70, so have to ask, what are peoples base haste and dps mods with say Adept 3 spells at solo lvl 70? If using haste gear, please state that as well.
Message Edited by minionofdeath on 04-16-2006 06:26 PM

The AE proc is good...but it sucks for raids b/c it will break mez and help you pull all kinds of unwanted aggro. Even with an MT with great hate gain and several hate buffs on him I pull aggro all the time without trying, i can only imagine how much worse it would be with an unwanted AE going off...even if i toggle the spell off, its a waste of a spell. Berserk is on alot but not all the time, IMO the haste is the best to keep especially with a long delay 2h. Gorethok Jigglebelly 70 Berserker of Crushbone Leader of Elysium
