<div></div><div><div>Anyone know how exactly this works? I have always assumed that it effectively increases your "relative" mitigation versus whatever mob your fighting. ie, if you are level 70 with +36 defense in gear, then you are effectively level 77 for to hit and mitigation purposes against that mob.</div><div> </div><div>Is there a cap on the amount of +defense one can have? As I keep finding more and more + defense gear! not only are there many items in KOS that have +def on them, but some of our CAs allow us to buff this up too. </div></div>
<div></div>It seems to me that + defense adds to your base avoidance, not your mitigation, but I could be way off on this. I can only recall my avoidance going up when I equiped + defense items. To tell the truth though, I never really looked into it much and would really be interested in an answer from someone with more knowledge on how it works.

<div></div><p>Aye, and just remember, I am not suggesting that it affects your base mitigation in the persona window. It doesnt.</p><p>But since if raises your defensive skill, you are effectively a couple level higher for defense purposes, so when a mob is trying to attack you, it will be mitigated as a lower con mob than it normally is. Like in my example, I am effectively level 77. So mobs that are level 70 that are attacking me, could be considered green to me now for their attack rolls and the amount of damage that is mitigated from their attacks. This is the whole reason I am asking the question about the cap. its seems too easy to attain a substantial amount of +defense gear. So there must be a cap. And I would like to know what it is, so I can focus on other stats instead that may actually help me tank.</p>

Defense skill adds to the base avoidance so it changes your avoidance percentage in the persona window<div></div>

<div>I have found +1 Defense = 6.6 agility</div><div> </div><div>It raises your base avoidance only, not mitigation.</div><div> </div><div>If you hit "L", and then to the second tab, it shows your defense. Max is 425, and has been tested by a couple different people I know. Neither one of them even know each other (afaik), and they both said 425, so it's probably true. It will go above 425, but anything over doesn't help. In other words, it's stops adding to avoidance at this point.</div><div> </div><div>If you reach the max avoidance while in a group already, not much sense in getting more + Defense. Also, if you hit the 425 Defense, and your avoidance is NOT capped, you could get more agility gear to get more avoidance.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

Suppressed Rage (Adept 3) adds about 6%avoidance in offensive stance for me, and in defensive stance (defense 410) it adds about 1.3%. I have no idea if passing the 425 mark will add additional avoidance against higher con'd mobs. Raising the parry skill in a group is another way to add avoidance when you cap out on agility and defense. Also, I have found +23 agi (pristine fashioned acrylia bangle) to equal +3 defense (Zorv's Wristguards), which puts +1 defense closer to 7.6 agility.</span></div>

Before the combat revamp, yeah, you would match that person or mob as if you had a higher con. After the revamp, you're still only effectively level 70 with high avoidance. An orange and/or red mob will still hit you just as often and just as hard than if you were actually closer to it's level.</p></span></div>

<div></div>All sounds good with my experience, my defence is now jacked up to 386, and it seems that mobs have a harder time hitting me, my weapon shield often does not even proc the 30 seconds it is up. My avoidance is like 59%, so that makes sense in that regard. I did find that once I do get hit, I get hit the same regardless of what my defense is, so in my opinion I do not see mitigation to be affected.
