So i played Berserker in the Trials of isle and i liked how they could deal some nice damage with dual wield axes, i loved the axes actually.i wanted to know if i could play a Berserker mainly for the damage and less for the tanking, i wouldnt mind tanking now and then but not as a career, if thats the case i still might look into it.If not can you guys suggest any other class that can dual wield swords or axes that are power houses?i currently play Rogue, thanks for your response!<div></div>

roll a brigand/swashbucklerwhen you go looking for groups ppl will ask you specifically to tank, which it appears you would rather not do, we are a tanking class, we dish out very good damage but not until the higher lvls (50+, especially 58+)roll one of the above^ can dual wield and do better damage.. (all scouts can dual wield)<div></div>

<div></div>You play you tune how you want bro.  My Bezerker is definately geared more toward offense than defense and can lay out massive damage (i prefer a 2-hander v/s duel wield) whenever the need arises.  I found that even though i've speced my bezerker this way that i can still tank effectly (using sword and shield of course) for any group when needed.

<div></div>I agree with Steel 100%.  That's how I choose to play my toon as well.

<div>Count me in the offensive zerker camp as well. I almost never turn off our offensive stance, even when tanking for pickup groups, although I will don a shield now and again for yellow cons. I am the lowest level tank in my guild at 55, so my job is dps when I do guild stuff.</div>

What everyone but chief failed to mention is yes, if you're invited to a group 99% of the time you will be expected to tank.  I play a 65 zerker and have not once been invited to a group outside of my guild groups that someone else tanked.  Despite all the "I am a dps zerker" posts you read we are primarily a plate wearing class with taunts which defaults us to the tank role.  If you want dps with dw weapons role a scout.<div></div>

<div></div><p>You need to take into account that even if your going full offensive, you are not at your maximum DPS potential unless you are tanking. You need to be taking the hits to trigger "Berserk" which is where our real dps comes from. If you are bangin on the mob while it's doing all its damage to someone else, you are missing out on the damage you <em>should and could</em> be doing.</p><p> </p><p>Good luck, being a Zerker is frigging awesome!</p>

You should take a look at all the spells we get that don't do any good unless we are tanking.  By level 70 you will have at least 12.  By choosing a Zerker to be a DPS you are selling yourself short IMO.  If your goal is to be a full-time DPS and you don't care much for tanking then don't bother with the Zerker class because you will be disappointed.  I recommend choosing a scout class instead.<div></div>

<div></div><p>*sigh... I don't want to be a troll, but why does this question keep coming up? PLEASE read all the other 400 posts on this topic before starting yet another thread to as a question to which the answer is blatantly obvious! Berserkers are offensive tanks. Yes we can do good damage, but not a good as a scout class. Expect to tank. If you want to be melee damage, roll a scout class.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

<div></div><div>Do what ever it is they want to do, and have fun.  If you aren't playing the class the way others are telling you "should" play it....SO WHAT.  Tell them to play their own game.  You play yours.</div><div> </div><div>That said, for a berserker to be considered any kind of DPS, is very situational (need lots of mobs because we are much better with AOE combat, and need our best spells up).</div><p>Message Edited by FightGame on <span class="date_text">03-29-2006</span><span class="time_text">05:31 PM</span></p>

<div></div>Berserkers shine in DD situationally.  What I mean is that if you put up all the right spells and wade into a group of mobs you do horrific damage that catches everyone's attention, but you can only do that every couple of minutes.  Scout classes often achieve a good portion of their DPS from the base auto-attack, meaning they can just coast and be relatively high on DPS parses if they are OOP.  I'm not saying we (berserkers) don't do good damage, I'm just saying that we won't shine as brightly as a class if we disregard our other roles and focus only on DPS.  We can DD as a main role in a group, and that is a good thing when other tanks are in the group.  If you don't like tanking, you can focus all your gear and spell upgrades on the offensive role, but I think you will lose more potential defensive value than you will gain in additional offense.

try a brawler type, they typically are top dps in terms of fighters, rarely tank, most brawlers tell me they get stuck with dps role anyway and only tank when the tank drops dead or goes afk for 10mins yada yada.monk or bruiser, i have no idea, maybe which city you like most will decide that.Berserkers do dps as well, pretty high from my parses, as well as others, as long as your tanking and fight a few more group mobs than ^^^ heroics.<div></div>

Keep in mind we are not trying to tell him how to play the game.  He is a newb that came here asking for advice.  My advice is if you are new to the game and only want to DPS then don't pick a Zerker.  Because then we will hear you crying about it later.<div></div>

I was trying to make the point that if you are going to post a question, at least take the time to look to see if it has already been answered. A quick 5 -10 second glance at the zerker forums would have answered this question... it is one of the most abundantly posted questions on our boards.</p><p>So, for the OP: zerkers are a fun class to play. I love mine. for more information on the viability of zerkers as DPS, please refer to one of the many threads on this subject in the zerker forum. </p>

<div></div>Another thing I prefer being a zerker is the ability to equip any weapon that's out there, unlike the scouts and monk/bruiser classes.  And the ability to wear plate and take a beating is fun too <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Sure we can't out damage them, but I think we are a lot more versitale than they are.
