View Full Version : What sort of difference will +/- 10 of a particular stat make in the end?

I'm new to EQ2 and I'm wanting to make a berserker to play on the pvp server. My question is if I pick one of the weaker races, how much difference will 10-15 str make at level 70. I've read a few other posts on races and most people seem to just reply with "pick what you like to play because race doesnt matter". While I agree with this to some extent, I'm still curious exactly what sort of difference this str will make because I'm more interested in how the character plays rather than how it looks, particularly in regards to pvp. To be more specific, I'm interested in making an erudite berserker for both the fact they're uncommon and because I like "sense aura". I just want to know how much exactly I would cripple myself in doing this. From what I have read, it seems most people have 150ish str unbuffed? Maybe 950ish attack? The guardian forums suggest that you gain 4.5 attack per point of str in this range. Is it correct to assume that 15 str would mean around a 7% difference in damage? (4.5 *15 = 67.5 attack; 67.5 attack/950 total = 7%). If this is right, that doesnt seem like a trivial difference to me.  I'm not sure how this would work out and I'd appreciate any help.I'm also curious if int has any sort of effect on berserker skills (maybe stuns or taunts?).<div></div>

<div></div>If I use Ancient Draconic Warpike, I have 496 str selfbuffed and an attack of 1505 in offensive. When I switch weapon to a 1 hander, my attack drops dramatically. With Dark fury sword of anuk + shield my str drops to 465, but my attack is down to 1288. So here 1 str=7 attack.

Hmm that's still around 7-8% of your attack for 15 str (if it is 1 str = 7 attack), but 15 str is more like 3% of your total str.... I don't know if attack scales linearly with damage but either way it seems like it would be noticable....<div></div>

<div></div><div></div><div>Most of the time, in a group, my strength is over the max.  The max is (7*your level)+your base(usually about 20)=510</div><div>So, 10/510 = <2%.  And if you're at 520 or higher, it will be 0% difference.  Either way, pretty much no difference.  Even more so if you factor in the fact that, since you have slightly less strength, you probably have slightly more of some other stat.</div><div>Being over max all the time is the reason why, when I /respec'ed I choose all stamina and agility over strength every time.</div><div> </div><div>I don't think the math Bravesinger is doing is correct.  Well the math is correct, but there's more that goes into attack rating than strength alone.  I've tested it.  You get some kind of boost in attack if you're using a 2H or duel wield's.  Even with my strength the exact same, my attack was lower with a 1H weapon and shield.  And the way it should be imo, but I wish I knew exactly what the math was, and exactly how your attack rating figures into your damage output.</div><div> </div><div>Even unbuffed, I seriously doubt that 10-15 strength could possibly equal 15% difference in damage output.  Unless your strength was at 100 or less.</div><div>I've found that if all my CA's are up, I put out more damage with these, than with my auto attack any way.  Does strength have a factor on how much damage you do with CA's?  Probably, but I'm not sure.</div><p>Message Edited by FightGame on <span class="date_text">03-16-2006</span><span class="time_text">11:10 AM</span></p>

Your ATK rating is a value made up of the dmg rating value from the weapon you have equipped and also how much STR you currently have.  That's why you are getting a higher attack rating using a 2H even thuogh your STR is the same for your 1H vs 2H, since the 2H has a higher dmg rating.STR effects your power pool, attack rating and dmg your CA's do.  Your CA's will increase in dmg output up to your stat cap.  Though the dmg goes up very slightly, it does increase.ATK Rating = Weapon DMG Rating + STR + buffs (+ to slashing/crushing/piercing etc.)<div></div>
