View Full Version : Class Questions
<div>Hello everyone, I just bought the game (it's updating as I type this) and I'm trying to figure what class my character will be. I'm thinking about an Ogre Berserker and I have a few questions about the class.</div><div> </div><div>First: What are some of the basic skills and tactics used by Berserkers? What does their play style gravitate towards?</div><div> </div><div>Second: I've heard EQ II is more solo friendly than the first game. I'm busy with work most of the time and I'm wondering if the new game is easier on casual players like myself than the first game was. I remember having problems finding groups at times in the old game and leveling was incredibly slow. Will I have an easier time finding groups in the second game?</div><div> </div><div>Third: Has the difficulty of obtaining decent equipment for an equip-dependent class been mitigated somewhat from the first game (at least at the game start)? Starting out in EQ1 the costs for buying a piece of decent low level armor would range in the hundreds of plat and wasn't worth the cost given the limited time it was effective. Do Berserkers face this problem in EQ II as well?</div><div> </div><div>Thank you in advance for your answers and I hope to see some of you in game.</div>

The Berserker makes an excellent main tank class for groups and raids and also has decent solo ability. However the Bruiser is generally better at soloing due to their higher damage output, feign death ability, and self-heal. And since they wear leather rather than platemail it's usually at least a bit cheaper to outfit them in nice gear. Berserkers get some nice abilities but have very little use in groups and raids outside the role of main tank. But then from what I've heard it is somewhat more difficult for a Bruiser to find a group because although they can tank pretty well with their high avoidance and aggro-keeping abilities they are still not as preferred for that role as a plate-wearer by most people and their DPS is not quite as high as a Scout or Mage's either.<div></div>

There's either a lack of choice, or the prices for low leve equipment are geared towards 'twinks' (i.e. alts.) Nothing like EQ1, though. When I first started playing, I crafted to earn money, make my own stuff, etc. However, if you hate crafting, you still earn decent cash from selling collection quest items, rare harvests, etc. Also, quests can provide you with needed equipment as well. As a melee, as you know you're more dependant on gear than other classes. You can get by, though, it will just take you a bit longer than otherwise.</div><div>Good luck and have fun!</div>

1Berserkers are offensive heavy armored warriors in EQ2. We are tanks and a DPS class. You will perform very well in both roles and your AOE damage is one of the best in game (at least melee wise).2This game is much more solo friendly than EQ1. I left EQ1 cause it sucked too much time finding groups and being dependable to level up. In EQ2 you can actually only solo if you want, but it wont be hard to get into groups either, since you can act as a tank or off-tank perfectly, bringing great value to your party.3Equipment wise, if you only solo, you wont probably get your hands on the "elite" gear, but there are very high quality items dropping everyday and many are selling in the auction houses. Getting equipment in the beginning is quite smooth, since you will be doing a lot of quests that either reward you with items or with money to buy them.Your first gold piece will seem very far and difficult to get (it was for me at least), but as you level up, those shiny gold coins will be easier and easier to get.One advice, harvest a LOT. It's the trick to get money in this game, at least it worked for me. You can go from some coins in your bank to suddenly having some platinum pieces to spend on very good equipment. All in all, the Berserker is a wonderful, versatile class. Not the most easy to solo, but a solid solo-class.The game is no longer a "time-sink" like EQ1 was. You can actually play for half an hour and feel you have accomplished something, wether levelling, questing, farming or even crafting, you will see the results.

<div>I cheat , well kinda .... I saved up money for 3 boxes (18 slotters) dropped em into the shared vault, and do alot of harvesting on newb island at non peak hours, almost no contest, and i made a scout so i can run prett yquick. when my bags get full run to bank and drop it off, load up main and either use harvest, or put on vault in house for sale.</div><div> </div><div>My main does very little harvesting if any at all. Eventually I will have to get my alt out of newb island, but im still focusing prim on lvling and not crafting. but at level 16 I have roughly 32G and fully geared, nothing empty</div>
