<P>yeah really i wonder what this guy is smoking huh</P> <P>in eq2 berserker = offensive TANK</P> <P>we have a multitude of procs that go of WHEN WE GET HIT that allows us to tank better AND deal more damage at the same time</P> <P>we can wear heavy plate armor and get a lot of hit points and we have a lot of good taunts to keep mobs on us and off of other people</P> <P>always has been and always will be this way, i hope</P> <P>if not then i expect a class respec, thank you</P> <P>or perhaps even a game respect lol</P>

i think he's trying to say that a new game is coming out that has a non-tanking/pure dps fighter class in it called a berserker that he would rather play instead of the uber tanking one we have in this game if so then good riddance i say...one less gimped player around to worry about that can't or won't play their class correctly <div></div>

<P>Yes it's from another game... it's from an article about Vanguard. Yes it looks good and I'm going to play it but this is not the place for that. This is a place for us EQ2 Berserkers :smileytongue:</P> <P>Keep in mind that although the Berserker might be more true to traditional form in Vanguard, the combat system is slower. EQ2 will give you more of a real feel of berserking and the fast pace rush of adreneline. If you want a "Berserker" by statistics, Vanguard... if you want a Berserker by playstyle, Everquest 2.</P> <P>Berserker is my number 1 choice for Everquest 2 but for Vanguard, I'll be pursuing other interests.</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>vanguard....ok, its the [Removed for Content] son of eq, living off of the fame that came to those who were associated with eq, if it were not for eq we would not even know these peoples names and would not care that they were alive. not to mention they are just trying to rip on eq like wow did, instead of making something new or original they are just gonna "do the same old things everyone likes but make them better" great, thats just what I want eq with better graphics and slower combat, hurray!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Infact if u visit the sight right now u can vote on the poll where they need gamers help on deciding which existing death penalty they want to rip. Wow, i see where everyone is excited! </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><EM>"Vanguard</EM> will build upon the successes and strengths of earlier MMOGs to improve popular game mechanics and features, but also address these pioneering games; mistakes and deficiencies."</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thats straight from their official sight...don't get excited about leftovers, thats all this game is. Its eq's sloppy seconds. They just want to give eq a new name and change the lore names for each major character involved so they can slap a logo on something they don't own. its like Dr. Pepper and Mr. pibb.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"Our team consists of original EverQuest team members, EverQuest expansion team members, <FONT color=#ff3333>as well as team members from EverQuest 2</FONT> and EverQuest Online Adventures (PS/2), and other MMOGs."</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, once again, u can see that this is merely a cheap attempt at living off of other games fame. I swear, if they had the mail boy from an office where a freakin memo about WOW was actually sent to someone they would also happen to plug "we have members who worked on WOW!" </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"If I had to compare it to another game, take original EQ, Kunark, and Velious -- that sort of challenge. "</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ah, more admittance of their shameless rip off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"Generally, if you enjoyed the challenge level of <I>EverQuest </I>and its first couple of expansions, you will likely enjoy <I>Vanguard</I> as well. But, just as importantly, those areas most people found overly tedious (boat rides with nothing to do, or camping hours in one spot) will be addressed with newer, better game mechanics."</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Gosh, I get it already, stop pointing out that ur ripping everquest, we get it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"Currently, the plan is to have Microsoft host the servers, either directly or indirectly"</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Wow, I can imagine how well that will work...given that msn.com can't even usually stay up for more than a week at a time and most dead animal bodies could more reiably host an email service.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"First, it's important to point out that <I>Vanguard</I> is a 'multi-sphere' game, where at any given time your character actually has three classes: adventuring, crafting, and diplomacy. <FONT color=#ff3300>Also our primary goal isn’t to create a perfect, balanced class system."</FONT></STRONG></DIV> <P><FONT color=#ffffff>Ah, good, so we can expect the same old "oh ur not a (insert class name here) well we don't need u, go solo cause no group wants u and ur class sucks.</FONT></P> <P>"We can’t go into too much more detail other than to say that housing will be zoned – you can’t build just anywhere."</P> <P>More rippage, yay.</P> <P>It honestly goes on and on and ON AND ON AND ON. For everyone who thinks it will be great, fine, our opinions are different on said subject, but don't come [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ing to me when u shell out ur $50 for eq's first 3 expansions with better graphics. :smileywink:</P> <P>and, for the next person with the sad emo angst need to point out how much they think some other game that is not even in beta is gonna be better than a game thats the sequel to what is still considered by many as the greatest MMO of all time (not because of just 2 guys mind u) is simply pathetic. EQ2 has risked a lot to not just be a sequel but a new game with new features. Don't feed urself the idea that sony doesnt have the cash to make 10 sequels to eq that are exactly the same game with just better graphics. They do and could. Just like with EQ they are pushing the envelope in gaming and trying to create something nobody else has. Wether they succeed or fail is really yet to be decided given the duration of what it takes to judge an MMO, so far its been pretty [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] rocky I'll admit that much, but the day I let some puke on the eq2's own forums bash it and advertise some other game living off of EQ's fame is the day I punch my ticket as a gamer.</P> <P>I have nothing against vanguard personally and I could care less if it does well or not, I really think WOW has the market right now although I can't figure out why, but if you want to talk about classes in another game OP then you go do it on their forums or the ngd forums atleast. You make me sick.</P> <P>/rant over m'f'er</P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><BR> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><BR> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Hmmm.. I prefer the term "learn from your mistakes." I think that's what they are going for, not "ripping off" especially considering some of the designers for Vanguard were the original designers for EQ. To their benefit, I've never seen such a great interaction between developers and gamers as they have put forth on their forums. Lets hope it keeps on rolling that way and lets hope Sony "rips off" this idea.</P> <P> </P>

Krealfearus i think really doesnt know the Everquest history does he............... Brad McQuaid is the Chief architech for EQ1 , EQOA, EQ2 ( yes it was under his direction that eq2 was laid down upon ) before he left SoE as Chief Exec and CEO of Verant..... Before you label ANYTHING a rip off i really suggest you learn the background of the people you label ...................  SoE dropped the ball on this game, it had so much potential... I will play and continue to play full time till Vanguard is released.... then my play time will be cut back alot on this game for Vanguard ( i will still be on to raid but thats it ) I will be a berserker as well in Vanguard ( i was in eq and currently in eq2 so i will continue on in vanguard ) IF Vanguard turns out to be a quality game like Everquest was till Luclin then good bye eq2 ............... ( The Verant/Brad McQuaid Era at SoE ) enough said <div></div>

<P>if they really thought this game could stand on its own they would not repeatedly compare it to EQ up until the 3rd expac. its that simple. they make it very obvious they are striving for that point. they repeat it even.</P> <P>if a man is working for a car company and creates a car model while working there, he does not own this car. not to mention if youve ever even for a second contributed any mmo to the work of any 2 men then ur sadly mistaken, it took much more than 1 or 2 guys to make eq and not just 1 or 2 guys had every idea for it originally or for the first three expansions.</P> <P>also, if these guys were so brilliant they could reach for something new or creative with this new MMO which they have the nerve to call 3rd generation when it can literally be compared to eq at the 3rd expac....oh, with instanced housing. Yeah, really new generation there...wow...slow down, I am gonna get whip-lash. really. my head is spinning something awful. gosh.</P> <P>But, I realize there are people who can not be persuaded....so for those folks, I ask that u set back ur $50 now so that u can more quickly discover a remake of EQ with new graphics and names then suddenly switch back to whatever MMO u used to be on. This is the last time I will mention van till its release. til then I will put up with every single person advertising some other game on the eq2 forum. but once it comes out, expect immediate "i told you so's" from yours truly and for everyone that says their gonna quit and go to it already even tho its not even in beta i just want to ask in advance</P> <P>                                                    <FONT color=#ff0066><STRONG>        Can i have ur stuff?</STRONG></FONT> :smileyindifferent:</P>

They keep comparing it to EQ because it's the people who created EQ.  Obviously if you've created one of (if not <b>the</b>) biggest MMORPGs of all time you'll make that a prominent part of your resume.  If you're working on a new sports car and your name is Enzo Ferrari it carries more weight than Joe Blow.  If a new movie is coming out and you hear Peter Jackson did it, you might be much more willing to go check it out than if it was some guy you never heard of.  You know what to expect.  It's an appeal to the "hardcore" gamers, EQ up to Velious was a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] tough game.  It was very challenging.  Everyone has their stories about trying to break Plane of Fear and losing corpses (with ALL your stuff... gone... ) or insane corpse runs.  High level people were rare.  So they're saying if you liked our work in EQ, check us out in Vanguard.  <div></div>

<DIV>this reply is not in regard to van itself but to ur comparison about the ferraris or peter jackson directed films.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>lucas makes a movie yes u can come in with some expectations, he has done enuff that he has a reputation....the guys that worked on eq up til expansion 3, not so much...saying u were on eq, eq2, and oa does not add up to a hell of a lot when only one is really regarded as great....most would say thats 2 strikes outta 3 swings. Not a great track record.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>online gameing is far too unpredictable of a market to ever be predicted with any amount of certainty but I find its much easier to underestimate than overestimate, that way I'm never dissapointed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But, if everyone here thinks that eq up til expac 3 was so great as an mmorpg because of its difficulty maybe they can explain how WOW can get millions of subscribers....no seriously....how....</DIV>

Yeah all depends on what you like.  Brittany Spears has millions of fans, but I wouldnt go see her concert you know?  Some people like the way EQ was, the challenge and the reward of putting in the effort.  Some of it sucked, but thats why they are looking to improve it.  I think it's a good idea.WoW is great for a casual gamer, Blizzard did a good job with it.  EQ is in the same family but a different direction.  Diversity is good.  More choices are good.  <div></div>

<DIV>I personally believe EQ1 pre SoL was and always will be the greatest MMO ever. That said, everything has its time and place. EQ1's time has come and gone.  EQ2 and WoW are both ok games in their own right, but  having played EQ2 alot ( 52 zerker, 51 Inq, 43 SK) I can honestly say that for me personally it just does not cut the mustard and is lacking in way too many places for me to continue playing. WoW is  just too casualy-gamer oriented for me. Having studied the Vanguard sites and forums, I believe that there is alot for us to look forward to. Having played a tank alot both in EQ1 and EQ2, I for one am very excited about Vanguards proposed tanking system and classes that they have talked about so far. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! :smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:</DIV>

<P>McQaid aka "aradune" has a alot of years doing MMORG strategic design and has a good crew of guys he has worked with for a number of years.  The orginal EQ was his brainchild; all the elements taht we take for granted now (faction/agro/the melee engine) all came from his teams design in 98/99.  The old knock on him was he a had a "vision" for EQ1 and no changes coudl take place that didnt fit within it (such things as bind points, reliance on certain classes for transport etc).</P> <P>I'm not sure he is ripping off anything.  The change in direction/quality was very apparant after he left SOE (which was Verant/999 studios back then).  What is being advertised for Vanguard is a "tone" that if you actaully played from EQ1 to KUnark to Velious you'd know *exactly* what they are alluding too.</P> <P>Personally I'll probably try his game.  For the same reasons I pretty much try everything that Sid Meir (omgz Civ 4 is coming out) and John Carmack create; they have a track record for imaginative design and are willing to take risks to deliver it.</P> <P> </P>
