Im new to EQ2, i have played a ton of other mmorpgs though , however this one is a bit different as far as classes and races are concerned. My quesion involves the race of the zerker i wish to play. I was looking at stats of the various races and Barb Troll and Ogre seem to be the ideal choice. I was actually wanting to do Dark Elf, and im wondering if because i have such low stam and str, am I going to be gimped badly? Or will the gear and things i get make up for the low racial?

I believe that the starting stats for race may make a small amount of difference at the lower levels. For the most part everytime you level it raises the appropriate stats a certain amount. In the end your race will make less than 10 points difference in your status. There are many items that raise all your necessary stats. In my opinion I wouldn't let the race stats determine my choice. I don't believe you will have any difficulty playing a dark elf zerker.

Muccia.

P.S. My post may seem a little less credible due to the fact that I play a barbarian zerker, but the stats had nothing to do with my decision. It was the big pink flower I wear in my hair...

no its credible enough. I was wondering if there are racial traits to be considered? I know sahdowbane and WoW had racials to consider.

Well if you work your equipment well any race can be very effective. I'm one of the few Ratonga Berserkers on my server and I love it (smallest size too). I was in a group the other day and I noticed I was running more hp's and better mitigation than another zerker that was 2 lvl's higher heh. Now I do understand that if I was an Ogre in the same gear I'd be that much better but I'm not about being ubber. I'm about having fun.

Besides my Ogre Eye is always there in case I get a little bummed out about everyone being so much bigger heh.

My main is a level 50 (only 30% til 51!) Troll Zerker. I chose troll because I liked the character model, and they fit with what my idea of the character I was playing. When the talk was out that racial choice was mostly cosmetic, I decided to put it to the test. One of my 2 primary alts is a Troll Wizard. He's 29 now. I found that for the first 25 levels, his higher STA & STR helped a ton. I could be a "Battle Mage" and just stand there blasting away while being beaten on. True, my lack of INT caused (or at least seemed to) a ton more fizzles than I got with my Ratonga Coercer. At 25, this all changed, fairly quickly. My fizzles went down, and I started feeling more like a real Wizard... frail, but able to do a ton of damage. I started having to use my root on every fight instead of just taking the hits. So, it seems that the higher you get, the more like the archtype you are going to be, regardless of race.I'd say pick one you like, and go with it. --ZEdit: fixed typo.
Message Edited by Zmobie on 09-19-2005 01:47 PM

Actually I think it makes at least a slightly bigger difference than a lot of people here seem to think. The initial stat bonuses and racial traits are there for a reason...to help you in your chosen profession provided that you chose a race that is suited to that profession. Otherwise, in effect (or at least in theory), a lot fewer of you're "natural" abilites are going to do you any good and so then you're forced to rely more on the stats that your gear provides to do your job right. Which is fine if you really want to play an uncommon race/class combo, it can be done, and if you have enough skill as a player then you'll be ok...however, if you're going to do that then you do need to realize and accept the fact that there is no way that you're going to have quite as good of stats as someone else in your class of the same level who's wearing the same gear as you but who's race is inately better suited to the class than yours is and your stats will never be quite as good as they could have been regardless of the quality of the gear your're wearing at any level you manage to attain. So bascially, if you really want to do it then go for it and have fun (because that's all that really matters) but make sure that having at least slightly inferior stats, no matter what you do at any point in the game, is going to be worth it for you.
