Alright, I'm an old time EQ'er so I have an understanding on tank types and what ability they would bring to a group.  Played a Shadow Knight for 3 some years, so I know about agro, what I could and couldn't tank and what my role was in any given situation. I started out playing a Monk here on EQ2, leveled up to 36/37 before I finally gave into my inner demons nagging at me that I was bored to death because Monks here, are nothing like Monks in EQ.  So thinking about which class would most suit me, I decided to go the Berserker route.  Back in the good ole days of EQ I was known as a pretty decent tank, which yes that was a skill.  You would know if you grouped with a bad tank within the first few pulls.  Thus far I'm fairly happy with what I can and can't do within a group either as the tank or not and I have yet to raid with my Berserker.  I chose a Berserker because I didn't want to be limited to the role of TANK ONLY. My question being is, within the fighter class, where does the Berserker fall in? Guardian= Main Tank, they give the meaning to the word "tank" Shadow Knight= Can tank, but also can use spells, able to HT Paladin= Can tank, uses healing spells (Do Paladins get Lay Hands in EQ2?  Not sure about that) Monk/Brusier= The DPS fighters Berserker= ??? I put question marks there because yes we can tank, we can tank better then an SK/Pally/Monk/Brusier but not as well as a Guardian.  So what do we have to make up for that fact?  Yes I do understand that if we're not tanking we can attack from behind the mob so our attacks won't be parry'd/blocked/dodged/etc but put a Guardian behind a mob and the same holds true. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy to tank, this isn't one of those whiney posts about how nerfed Berserker's are.  I just would like to know where we as a class fall into the place of things.  If I didn't put so much hard work into my character I would probably switch to a Shadow Knight because of the fact that they can do a variaty of things within a group, and can also output damage as well as take it. <div></div>

I forgot who it was, but someone else on this forum once said this to completely sum up the berserker class: tank + drunk + just got kicked in the nuts p---ed off = berserker or something like that yeah that's about it too lol as i see it we are a more reckless and dangerous version of a guardian that forgoes some of its defense to do more damage and is known for being the best at holding aggro <div></div>

<div></div>ah ok, try this then: assuming that you understand the role of a guardian... think of a berserker as a really angry version of a guardian. they focus their rage to use against their enemies rather than being concerned as much about safety in general. what does anger do to you?  it can help you but it can also hurt you at the same time.  so you have a trade-off there. so basically there's really not a whole lot of difference between a zerker and a guard except that a zerker generally puts more into offense than defense and guards do the exact opposite. we get to wear the same armor and have about the same base HP so basically we can both tank equally well (in theory), but using a different style as only our CAs are different. think of a guardian and think "defense, defense, defense".  most of their CAs are defense oritented.  their primary skill is called "protection".  so their main concern is protecting themselves and their groupmates from taking damage.  zerker CAs are mostly offensive in nature, giving themselves and their groupmates more DPS to take down their enemies faster, but at more risk of getting hurt in the process compared to a guadian's tanking style.  however zerkers are well-known for being the "kings of aggro" despite the fact that guardians' taunts are supposed to be at least slightly better than ours. i hope that helps you understand us better.  sorry but there really is no simple cut-and-dry way to explain a berserker's position in the game other than the phrase i quoted beforehand, as it's all relative to other classes in the game so all you can really do is compare their descriptions as well as their actual abilities and use some common sense to figure it out.<div></div><p>Message Edited by infernus006 on <span class=date_text>08-29-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:32 PM</span>
