Red Sox Suck

I found this post on the Ranger forumn. My brother was on the test server and did some PVP. Here are his results:

Ok here are some more examples of duels I was able to fight over the past few days.

First things first, its very buggy. You have to relog after every duel like Xminos stated. I

36 Ranger Against 35 Paladin...

Ugg don't fight one....The fight took over 10 minutes start to finish. He wound up using most of his power in healing himself. I managed to kite him quite succesfully and much to his annoyance. The key to the fight was the opening high damage snipingshot/crippling arrow/flame shot/triple fire combo as he ran towards me. Be prepared to use your sprint key while kiting PC's if they get to close. Snare stuck pretty effectively. Very low damage from the paladin really surprised me. Also the amount that I missed was disturbing as well. Thought it was an anomoly but happened both fights.

Result 2-0 Ranger

36 Ranger against 37 Fury...
Got absolutely owned. Kiting ineffective due to long range spells. Duelwielding got me killed extremely fast on their selfbuff damage shield.
The biggest problem however, was I just could not put out enough damage to counter the healing/regen combo.
Furies king of pvp. Hands down.
Result 2-0 Fury

36 Ranger against 37 Wizard....
Fun fight. Was a straight burn fest. First thing I learned, Roots aren't that bad. You can still shoot. I was rooted to start, and while rooted got off a crippling arrow/triple fire combo that sent him running backwards.
His nuke hurt alot. After root break closed the distance while using flameshot. Was rooted again and nuked down to 13% or so. I managed to snare him and go melee he couldn't get a spell off due to interupts from duelwield. Burnt him down with 8% health or so remaining. PGT's ward proc made all the difference.

Second fight different story. Rooted again to start, and it held through several spells. Once again same situation got close enough to melee but this time he managed to get several spells through including a root and nuke which took me down.
Result 1-1

36 Ranger Vs 34 Guardian

Truthfully not even close. The snare/Charge combo proved very annoying. However they must be on pretty decent refresh timers, because after the initial flurry including a stun I was able to snare back away and shoot. Really drove him nuts by going into stealth and popping up for a back attack. Ended the fight at 45% Health and 60% Power.

Results 2-0 Ranger

33 Zerker Vs 34 Guardian
Fun fight to watch. They just went toe to toe. The mix of the zerkers stuns and higher damage attacks were just too much tho. Guardian on the second fight switched to duel wield to try to counter the zerker dps and got torn up even worse.

Result 2-0 Zerker....

33 Zerker Vs 37 Wizard

Didn't really see what happened as I was afk for alot of this fight. All I saw was the result a dead Wizard and the Zerker standing at about half health.
Result 1-0 Zerker

33 Zerker Vs 37 Fury

Nice fight, another fun to watch. Once again tho the combo of regen/heals/nukes and damageshield too much to handle.
Result 2-0 Fury

36 Ranger Vs 35 Coercer...

Bleh...Was mezzed, stunned, nuked over and over.
Ugly fight. I think with some changed I could make it competitive but very tough class to beat.

Result 1-0 Coercer

36 Ranger Vs 40 Templar (only templar I know on Test)

Think I could have won having been even level. Was able to kite somewhat, tho heals are a pain in the [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] to deal with. Templar straight melee not that bad suprisingly and using their nukes mixed in can do some damage. Templar ended the fight around 80% health and 20% Power.

Result 1-0 Templar

37 Fury Vs 40 Templar...

This was like watching paint dry. Templar damage couldn't keep up with Fury heals and regen. Fury eventually ran templar out of power and nuked him down.
Result 1-0 Fury.

Some final remarks.
Furies are extremely tough. You duelwield and a damage shield kills you. You kite and they nuke you down and heal themselves. Regen is very powerful when coupled with straight heals, much more so then wards or reactives.

Coercers very tough as well, Mez/stun/nuke combos are a real pain. I do believe if you can close in on one their low health would have them fall fast. I made the mistake of backing up not charging forward and it was the end of me.

Zerkers very tough as well. Lots of health, good damage and a million and one stuns it seems, they are going to be all out caster killers.

Wizards are very dependent on roots. They tend to break super fast. If they do and you close in, duelwielding means death to them. If they hold they fry you simple as that.

And finally rangers, Seem to be bout middle of the pack. I was able to kil/kite around alot, tho not as much as I expected. Turning off the auto face camera helped tons and stealth is much more useful.
Against casters we need a bit of luck to pose a serious challenge. Furies are just beyond us and I believe beyond everyone.

I had no problems with the guardian which I found suprising considering what others have said. I know the guardian very well and know he's a good player but I just think our skill sets handles theirs quite well.

All in all alot of fun, and tho thinkgs like jousting don't work their will undoubtably be alot of strategies cast out in these duels.

Hot [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot], great post! I wish I could've seen the fights myself, I especially liked the part when the gaurdian tried to go dual weild on the zerker and was.... what was it again? Oh yea, "torn open". Yummy, gaurdian guts...

Im wondering what stats we should be focused into, str is propably the main stat, but is sta more important than agi, and should we use defensive buffs (controlled rage, unflinching will ect) It might be that what works when soloing normal mobs, might work on duels too, ofcourse it depends what class your against, im eagerly waiting PvP for live servers, to test these things out

I really really strongly believe that if duel goes in without any combat changes, berserkers will be near the top. ESPECIALLY at 50. I know that if i got within melee range of a cloth wearer there is no real chance for them...

Brawlers wear light armor, and i know they wont fall that easily, lighter armor means higher avoidance, tho mitigation will be low, ofcourse casters still will die in melee combat quickly But if berserker gets in melee with some other class thats not that durable in melee, i bet stuns and high dmg attacks will drain their hp with ease, but that will be yet to see Still even after nerfing / combat revamp, i think berserkers will be in Top5 in best PvP classes

This is ok information, but its from a lower lvl combatant. I'm wishing someone would post about a lvl 50 fight. Just judging from what you said about the Wizard really lacking in battle and relying upon roots really is a problem for lower lvl. Later on we get a load of stuns and stifles as well as extremely damaging nukes.

Could someone try to post something on lvl 50 duels? This information is almost 20 lvls below some of us.

Anyone duel an sk yet im dying to hear how they do. Very high dmg wards alot of small heal procs some stuns snare and harm touch i wonder how they do?

Interested to see how we wizards fare at higher levels, with our unbreakable root, intstant cast interrupt and 10 second stifle and our 1 second cast stuns...

I imagine a few of these will be getting PvP nerfed...

How much damage was the 37 wiz hitting for on his main nuke?

Yeah, ouch, saw a level 48 monk own all, 13 or so combat arts to use and stifles out the kazoo. 20 second silent fist stifle with 30 second reuse timer, 5 second kick stifle with 10 second reuse timer. ouch, leaves 5 seconds to actually do something. he was barely ever hit with any other melee fighters (ranged from 40 - 49) avoidance was a staggering 80.2% on him. spells just missed entirely, furious dual wielding punches were incredibly effective at interupting oponents combat arts. gonna be a mean class to beat.

Do taunts have any effect in PVP? I remember in FFXI when they implemented their PVP system the taunts worked like a stun or something... I can't remember exactly, but I know they made them somehow useful. I'd be interested to know since I've chose taunts for all my training skills that I could.
