Hi - quick question re these two different skills.... I have bee using a mace till lvl 20 - then received my 2h axe when i completed sub-class quest. i am happy to change between my weapons based on various situations - but when i ventured into Nek and used my axe for the first time - obviously i could not hit a thing! ended up having to go back to sprawl to increase my slashing skills. just wondering - before i go too much further,,,, is it worth leveling both skills - especially if you are unsure as to your preferred weapon? i noticed my crush skill is 101/101 - does this mean i cannot level it any further until i level my character? basically - i dont want to level one skill if it sacrifices the other - but if they are all capped based on my level - i will prob do both. thanks for any feedback.

Its worth leveling the entire Offensive skill range Berserkers can get, and its also worth carring a arsenal of weaponry with you at all times in reguards to, Player made, Chest loot or Heritage, cause it seems that mobs can be immuned to alot more then just slashing, crushing and piercing here.

Taemek Frozenberg 45th Berserker
16th Outfitter
Everfrost Server

Enlightened Aonein Amillion ( retired )
70th Stone Fist of The Celestial Fist
Five Rings on Luclin Server

Message Edited by -Aonein- on 03-31-2005 12:23 PM

thanks for that - helps to justify for hacking through hoards of greys to increase my slashing skill. seems it will be worth it in the end.

Well I'd say get yourself dual wield weapons to raise the skills, slashing, crushing and piercing. Its the easiest way to keep all skills up, cause 2h is a little bit slow and with dual wield you can raise 2 skills at once :smileyhappy:

That's good advice. When I got my SBD at 41, I had to raise slashing from 47 to over 200. Not fun. Now, I keep all my skills maxed.

Message Edited by Tagright on 03-31-2005 06:41 AM

yes - dual wielding axe and mace have helped kept slashing and crushing on par. plus it is now my prefered fighting style - very cool indeed. piercing i have not worried about as i do not like any of the weapons associated with this skill. do you think it is enough to keep these skills covered or is piercing a necessity for certain mobs i may run into eventually? cheers.

Allthough I'm not sure are any other mobs resistants to slash/crush/pier except raid and named mobs.

I can tell you many many high end mobs are either resistant or outright immune to certain damage types. It is absolutely worth it to keep all your skills current. I'm kind of [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] about keeping my skills maxed, and I'm glad I did. Doesnt take much effort really.

Learned my lesson the hard way to always have all my skills kept up to date. It really sucks when you go to fight a named that can only be hit by piercing when your piercing is at 135/200 :smileyvery-happy:

oh you cant be serious! hmmm. my piercing would be like 20 right now - as a 25 bezerker. i dont dig spears you see and find it disturbing id need to keep it levelled to tackle the 'few in a life time' named resistant to slashing & crushing. BAH! if im not mistaken - some throwing weapons are piercing? this is probably the closest id come to be able to keep this skill raised - to a point - i only use ranged to aggro a mob from a long distance. can i ask - seriously - how many bezerkers out there are levelling equally - piercing, crushing and slashing? good lord - have i missed any! =P

I usually keep a DW of each type in my bank, if I am between groups or wainting for someone, i will go get them and max all my skills out just killing greens or blues till im done. Like one of the above posters, I got a really nice weapon and realized I was like 100 points back in my skill, needless to say that sucked. Its pretty easy to keep them up as you go, its a huge pain to raise them when you have let them slide for awhile.

I've been keeping my crushing and slashing up assuming that atleast one of those would do the trick. Kind sucks hearing some mobs are only affected by piercing. If I wanted to use a piercing wep I would've rolled a crusader and used a lance, or a thief type char. A dwarf zerker wielding daggers is just so wrong :/

Are there all that many mobs that are only affect by piercing?

Message Edited by Farz on 04-05-2005 02:58 PM

Every time my skill caps go up (which is every fifth of a level), I start swapping out weapons and usually within a few minutes everything is maxed again. It really is not much trouble at all, unless you are a Monk (for whom it is very difficult to keep Piercing and Slashing up, and yes Monks do get both of those skills).

The key of course is to carry a few backup weapons purely for skill-up purposes, preferably of the low-delay dual-wield variety. I didn't even have to buy any of my own weapons--they were all either quested by me or drops that I won the roll on.

If you don't like spears (which I don't either, since a 1h spear with shield uses a 2h 'greatstaff' attack animation, which looks absolutely horrible, and dual-wielded spears don't really look right either), use a rapier, cutlass, dagger, dirk, sai, stilletto, or kris. Surely you can live with the look of one of those. Yeah in general they won't be as optimal as dual leafblades, but you can't have everything.

Oh and ranged weapons use the 'Ranged' skill and will only skill that up, not Piercing, even if they do the piercing damage type. Ranged is pretty tedious to max out with the long delays on bows, and I don't bother with it, since I only ever use a bow when I have to pull a mob that's out of range of single-target taunt, and skill doesn't really matter for that purpose.

I'll let higher level folks comment on what raid mobs are only hit by piercing; my own personal nasty experience was with the big gator at the entrnace to Oblelisk of Souls, with my piercing so low at that time all my arts were effectively useless....so my dps was rather err lacking.

Good news is that skill ups happen on greys...can dual wield and go whack on some greys.

good point Grimveld - i guess i can handle a cutlass or dagger - and if there are mobs that are immune to all but piercing then i guess i have no choice. i had to level my crushing from 20ish - or whatever the atsrting skill is to 110 - and managed to do it in a night - so i guess its not so bad when you can cleave your way through large groups of greys. fortunately your skill does go up killing greys as someone mentioned - which is a huge relief.

I keep my slashing and peicing both capped. I'm not a big fan of crushing... But, hey, it's personal preferance, I suppose. I use a 2handed spear and a axe/shield.

i usually use swords in battle but when the time comes i use what i get. some items are better and i think it is a good idea to lvl both thingsd up. What i try to do is have it so that i only use slashing typr weapons and work around having to use others. even though recently have wanted to try to lvl up my crushing. what a great thing to think about.

just anothr comment, some monsters are immune to certain types of weapons. EX. oakmyst fairys cant be hit by crushing........... so it might be a great idea to lvl up others just in case of a fight where your weapon is immune.

I also keep a mini-arsenal on myself. Currently I have a big axe for slashing, a wand (looks soooo funny) for crushing, and a spear & kukri combo. All chosen for looks and stats, as well as making sure I had all three weapon arts covered.
