<DIV> <P>With some luck they will just fix how Defense buffs stack. They seriously should not have released this game when they did, with the amount of problems that are still around after 6 months plus they just seem to constantly generate new problems for themselves all the time, certain problems still exsist that exsisted during beta for example Octagorgon, went on a Mentor raid with a group the other night and what happens, his encounter breaks, this was only 3 days ago, and its been how long? 6 months, plus they have said on the lanch pad patch notes 2 times his encounter is now fixed.</P> <P>Entire class's are so imbalanced and broken cause 50% of a class's Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells are broken, or not working as intended, 40% we *think* are working till they adjust them or try and tweak them resulting in breaking them then you get no feed back on it, and to top it off, the last 10% of Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells we havent got a single clue about if there broken or working, again due to lack of communication with in each class forum.</P> <P>Every class forum now has a Consolidated list of broken or bugged Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells, it wouldnt be hard or too much to ask for if a Dev just signed in once a month and posted what they knew was broken, what they were looking into fixing or what they were going to adjust and why.</P> <P> </P> <P></P> <HR> <P></P> <DIV>MMORPG.COM wrote :</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> <DIV><B>Are We Having Fun Yet?</B></DIV>The fancy graphics and the voice acting and the voluminous quests are important parts of the game, but they all take a backseat to one thing: fun. So the question becomes, "How fun is EverQuest II?" Sadly, the answer in this writer's opinion is, "Not very," or at least not nearly as fun as other games on the market today, including its predecessor. The success of the original EverQuest can be attributed as much to timing as anything else. When EQ was released, the internet was just starting to become prevalent as a consumer medium. First person perspective in gaming was hitting its stride and online play was becoming smoother and more realistic for games more complex than backgammon. Chat rooms and the social side of services like AOL were seeing huge jumps in popularity as the world was getting online. EverQuest took parts of all these phenomena and bound them into a fun online experience. But even if the game had been released a year later, people would have played it in droves because it was a doggone fun game. <P></P> <P></P><IMG height=1 alt="" src="http://www.mmorpg.com/images/spacer.gif" width=10 border=0><IMG height=10 alt="" src="http://www.mmorpg.com/images/spacer.gif" width=1 border=0>EverQuest II contains a lot of things that EQ just didn't or couldn't have, but it's missing something that's intangible. It's the part of EQ that made it so addictive that people would play for hours on end. It's what made websites like Allakhazam and Everlore and MMORPG.com so popular. It's what made dozens of other developers jump into the MMORPG genre with both feet in an attempt to duplicate EQ's success. It's not easy to put into words, but players know it when they experience it. There's something that's just not here, as if EQII is missing its soul. <P>It's not that the developers did a half-hearted job here. Not at all. The graphics engine is evidently capable of incredible things. The quests are involved and well-integrated into the story line. The dungeons are truly creepy and ominous. Regardless, the sum of the parts does not add up to a satisfying whole. There is a missing-the-forest-for-the-trees aspect to the overall game. It feels forced and artificial. It's a shame to say it, but it appears that after all the hard work and attention to detail, the team behind EQII forgot to include the fun.</P> <P>There is no arguing that EQII is something that many will love. It is a massive undertaking and is brimming with content and potential. The hype and the pedigree are a major reason for all the attention it is getting, but even if it had neither, it would be the recipient of numerous well-deserved accolades. Just releasing a game of this scale with almost no major issues is an accomplishment worthy of mention. EverQuest II will offer hours of gaming and adventure to those who find it to their taste. The question is exactly how many will absolutely love it. That will be answered in the months ahead, as players decide whether to keep playing or to discontinue and go back to EQ or to other games.</P> <P>Regardless, EQII will not be the worldwide sensation that EverQuest was. It's doubtful that any game will be able to duplicate that feat, but it's even tougher on one that bears the original's name. The success of EQ has given EverQuest II a huge headstart, but EQII must now captivate players on its own. That may not be as easy as many think. Only time will tell, and the ultimate judges will be the MMORPG playing population. It is they who will decide whether following the most wildly successful game in the genre's history is a blessing or a curse.</P> <P></P> <HR> <P></P> <P>EQ2 isnt supplying people with the feeling that a Fantasy MMORPG should supply because at the moment, all the fun is being sucked out with SoE nerfing and fixing and adjusting in a bid to balance for a longer term lifespan. Well to me this isnt our faults and we as some are very emotional players as you can see here in the forums first hand, shouldnt have to to go through these types of changes and adjustments for the simple fact, this is what beta testing is for. I myself when i picked up the game and from following the feedback over the years once i heard of it being planned and couldnt wait to get it, after hearing friends talk about what was in beta etc it sounded so exciting i almost wet my pants, literally. After playing a Monk for 4 years on EQ1 and coming here and rolling a Monk with in the first month of release, it just didnt feel right, play styles were different and i couldnt seem to stop playing my monk here like i played in EQ1, even though i must admit it was nice to be able to tank again, for me, it just didnt feel right because to me, the game has to supply that feeling or sensation or it just isnt worth playing. So i rolled a Berserker, where since the second month of release Berserkers have had more then there fair share of adjustments and fixs, but overall up until LU#5, i had enjoyed the overall play style of a Berserker, i had what i was looking for, that feeling, but as of LU#5 in reguards to the way buffs work now, the fun is gone, there is no fun in having to wait for buffs or have to wait to reuse skills. You trigger a buff / self buff / buff that requires concentration, and then wait for it to run its course, once it nears its end you refresh it, simple and logic. Now with LU#5, you trigger a buff / self buff / buff that requires concentration and it greys out, if you try to refresh it, it cancels the buff, art, spell and you have to then sit and wait 30 secs - 1 min for it too repop for use. Not fun SoE, very depressing and no this doesnt add a element of challenge, it adds a element of frustration. I dont think anyone in the entire game see's any logic in this. Ive even yet to see SoE Rep, Mod, Dev, Manager even tell us why they did it in the first place.</P> <P>Now before people get confused, i never came here from EQ1 expecting it to be the same, but i will be honest and say that i wasnt exactally thrilled with what i got sensation or feeling wise like i got from EQ1 over the 4 years i played it. But EQ1 just contuined to exceed what i was looking for, content wise and game play wise, to me its not about flashy graphics or horses or flying carpets, its how well a game can be played and how user friendly it is with a hint of technicalility to it also to keep the people who are interested to dabble that deep on there toes.</P> <P>You need to add the fun back into it SoE, you know you have a large base of hard core players and you know you also have a large base of casual players, but there has to be a certain element of fun there to keep people here, people arent going to go " WOW " for the first month, then sit back and pray it gets better, there is plenty of other games out there ( before anyone thinks it, no im not refering to WoW, get WoW right out of your head ) or due to be released and also getting released on a constant basis and one of these days, one of these companies are going to strike something just like Verant did 6 years ago when Brad first released EverQuest. While this is envietable, i would like to express how much i would like SoE to be able to be the first to strike something like Verant did 6 years ago cause ill be honest and say i am a SoE Fanboi, but at the current moment, im not a very happy SoE Fanboi, because after seeing how well constructed, organized and well thought out there Storyline, gameplay was in EQ1, and the way the storyline of the game just sucked you in like a Stephen King book or a Mills and Boons book if thats you style or if you ever read Lord of The Rings books themselves and the imense detail that the books could make you imagine and picture, then thats exactally what EQ1 did, the Storyline was deep, and intense, it was great, it supplied you with that feeling of satisfaction and fulfilment when you went out and seen these places with in the game, or faced those mobs and monsters that the stroyline was refering to.</P> <P>A Storyline to a game gives roleplayers a reason to roleplay. The game itself should be able to reflect what your imagination would picture and recreate that feeling of statisfaction and fulfillment, and give you that spine tingling senstation while you venture Dungeons and battle Epic Monsters and travel vast regions of Norrath that your mind could create while reading the Lore and the Legend. Even if you arent a big reader and dont like the reading material, the game should still give you that spine tingling sensation or goose bumbs as you venture through dark, wet, sticky, humid dungeons, or run threw the fields in Norrath being chased by a angry pack of wolves or what ever gives you that feeling, but for some reason the feeling just doesnt seem to be there. While its hard to find people who share the same views as you do or want the same play styles that you yourself strive for or look for, all the comontion with class balance and nerfing, and broken combat arts, abilities and spells, plus encounters breaking, becoming invulnerable, stuck under the world, mobs being to far away while you could pick there noses for them, and people just wanting the best of both worlds with in there archtype is whats slowly killing the game, for me it is anyway. So to find the fun again that i once had with my Berserker i decided to roll a Illusionist, since i never played a caster in EQ1 and Illusionists were something that for some odd reason i liked what i heard about in this game i decided to try one. So now, i read a post of Moorgards in regaurds that they are having there DPS increased. /sigh, SoE if i wanted to nuke like a Wizard / Warlock i would of rolled a wizard or Warlock, its just that simple, when will you get the point.</P> <P>People play what they play cause they enjoy that style of game play, not to be like everyone else but have a few class specific spells, there is just no fun in that SoE. The whole problem is The Archtype system, take that away and have every class stand on there onw, like they did in EQ1, and people wouldnt be able to *whine* about "i want this", or "i want that cause you said that this archtype system everyone would be able to perform the same job, equally and thats what you advertised ", thats your biggest downfall SoE, and if thats the reason you keep on striving to make every one so generic but in there own way, then what ever happened to class descriptions on EQ1? To make any character on that game if you were to just start now based of the descriptions and not doing acual research on the forums, you would have to be mad, and in the long run you would clearly see that the class's do not fit the descriptions no longer, except maybe a Warrior and Healer class.</P> <P>But anyway, sorry for the long post, hope people acually read it and understand where im coming from, cause this game can be a hell of alot more fun then it is SoE, stop crushing the fun, and put some back in it, please. Im sure im not the only one who feels this way.</P> <P>EDIT : This was orgianlly on Guardian forum but i moved it here due to it being a Berserker related problem due to the frustrating way the class has become to be played. While the article i posted is a view of someone else, i often wonder where the fun did go. You can find what was discussed on the guardian forums here :</P> <P><A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=3&message.id=9667" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=3&message.id=9667</A></P> <P>Taemek Frozenberg 45th Berserker<BR>16th Outfitter<BR>Everfrost Server<BR><BR>Enlightened Aonein Amillion ( retired )<BR>70th Stone Fist of The Celestial Fist<BR>Five Rings on Luclin Server</P></DIV></DIV> <P><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </P><p>Message Edited by -Aonein- on <span class=date_text>03-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:46 AM</span>

EQ2?????   Devs dont even listen to players there.</P> <P>Community in WOW better than in EQ2??????   LOL   WOW has the worse community i ever experienced.</P> <P>Less lag in WOW than in EQ2???  Again no, its laggy out there too and be prepared for a lot of downtime.</P> <P> </P> <P>EQ2 might be buggy, with broken skills and class issues,  but you have your share of that in WOW or any other mmorpg.</P> <P>Plus, no matter how slow changes come, they do come. Devs here actually LISTEN to players and i might not agree with everything they've done since release,  but they are trying to balance game out.</P> <P>Yes, i also want my skills and any other class skills fixed, better content to high-level players and improvements to the game overall,   but im still here, not in WOW or any other mmorpg (and ive had my share with mmorpgs) cause im still having FUN!!!</P> <P> </P> <P>If you think EQ2 has problems,  check other mmorpgs class forums and laugh a bit.   There have been so many radical changes in WOW classes that's not even funny, not to mention  PvP  balancing problems and total useless classes in the whole PvP department (yes, mainly melee classes included).</P> <P>Regarding EQ1, sure it was fun, it was my first mmorpg and i will never forget the countless hours of fun i had with it.... but i wont also forget the reasons why i left, cause for the casual player that didnt have 6hours average everyday to play EQ1 was a nightmare.  Here in EQ2, finally and after playing 7 mmorpgs  i finally got what i wanted..... not perfect, but getting better.</P> <P>EQ2 does not appeal to only hardcore players anymore, it also appeals to the casual player, to the soloer, to the married player, to the ones that want to login, play for 2 hours and logout.  My helmet's off to SOE on that department, cause everyday this game is offering a bit more to every playstyle.</P> <P>And let me say this again........   mmorpgs are about people and EQ2 has the best community i ever saw.</P></DIV><p>Message Edited by Davish_Darkwolf on <span class=date_text>03-29-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:32 PM</span>

Its not about taking them serious anymore...... Who cares if a site is biased or not... it doesnt take a genious to see that SoE is gonna have some major problems in the very near future since they were too busy fixing trivial crap and not fixing what was important in this game.... SPELLS AND COMBAT ARTS should have taking priority over and "adventure pack" or [Removed for Content] tradeskilling but no SoE made a bad choice in there priorities... SoE pls reevaluate what is IMPORTANT for the survival of this game because my patience is slowly wearing thin........... <div></div>

<DIV> <P><SPAN>I agree.<SPAN>  </SPAN>In thinking they are improving many things they are actually screwing them up.<SPAN>  </SPAN>Why fix something that is already working fine???<SPAN>  </SPAN>Simple things are sometimes the most enjoyable.<SPAN>  </SPAN>EQ1 did have something that EQ2 is missing.<SPAN>  </SPAN>I for example don’t like these zone level restrictions and think they are a big mistake (and im talking about normal zones not access quest zones).<SPAN>  </SPAN>Yeah you can do access quest to get access… So then if you can access them anyway just take the dumb restriction off.<SPAN>  </SPAN>It makes no difference.<SPAN>  </SPAN>It really sux when you have a group together and you wanna go to a zone/place and you cant because one or two members of your group are just 2 or three levels away from having access. <SPAN> </SPAN>Doh!</SPAN></P> <P><SPAN></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN>And whatever happened to the environment/weather? Rain? Thunder? Lightnig? Fog? These are basic things that added so much to the game environment and yet they where just by completely forgotten. <SPAN>  </SPAN>An environment is tied to the weather and it provides a sense of place, mystery, adventure, and its just fun.<SPAN>  </SPAN>Another Doh!</SPAN></P> <P><SPAN></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN>It is the simple little things that make the biggest difference most of the time.<SPAN>  </SPAN>The other thing that EQ1 had that EQ2 didn’t is that you could play it with a normal computer system and it would run well.<SPAN>  </SPAN>I basically had to buy a new system to play the game because I was so excited, but my brother however just decided to quit because he’s computer couldn’t take it.<SPAN>  </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN>It makes no senses to have the nicest graphics on the market if you cant run them. For that reason the people who cant afford a system to enjoy the nice graphics quit. Because EQ2 forgot to compensate the good graphics with fun content.<SPAN>  </SPAN>I’m sure the idea was to probably have the best of both worlds, but it didn’t happen that way.<SPAN>  </SPAN>However, it is never too late.<SPAN>  </SPAN></SPAN></P> <P><SPAN></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN>I have confidence in that at some point the guy behind the wheel is gonna wake up and be like, Whoa?? Where are the subscriptions going? And then someone is gonna get fired. lol. And they will fix the game. It takes time yes.<SPAN>  </SPAN>But it would be nice to have some notification of what is being done and what is being planned to make gamers enjoy the experience more.<SPAN>  </SPAN>I really hate to see them putting out expansion zones to make more money before addressing so many issues.<SPAN>  </SPAN>They would probably get more money in new and continued subscriptions if they just get the game to work properly and just add stuff to what they already have.</SPAN></P> <P><SPAN></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN>  </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN>  </SPAN><SPAN>  </SPAN></SPAN></P> <P><SPAN>And yes it be nice to have developers visit these forums once or twice a month at least and post something.<FONT color=#000000></FONT></SPAN></P></DIV>

<P>oh! and please put some form of PvP . /duel .. whatever.</P> <P>There was nothing cooler than to see two good players battle it out.  </P> <P>In EQ1 I remeber  large crowds would gather around them and cheer and even they did tournaments.  It was really really cool cause it adds another thing to do in the game if you just want a break from hunting mobs or tradeskilin.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

<P>Davish i think you missed the point there brother, i was using the article from MMORPG.com as a example of how i feel and how alot of others feel, it was in no way being used to compare games with each other.</P> <P>The whole problem is what Styker and Kannabis pointed out which we have been struggling to get some sort of feedback on for the last...... i cant even remeber now, 2 months? now, which is in reguards to Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells, not every class suffers so much from these bugs and problems like we do, some can get away with 50% of there arts and spells bugged and broken, but some cant, and we just happen to fall into the catergory where we cant.</P> <P>No offense Davish, but i really dont give a fly rats behind whats going on in other games, cause i was having fun here up until last patch where they totally destroyed the way the buff system works. Im not even interested in looking that general direction, or passing wind in that general direction, cause those games dont intrest me, this does, but i want is the FUN put back into my Berserker, its not much to ask, and i had that fun, up until <STRONG><U>LU#5</U></STRONG>. Now ive gone a rerolled a Illusionist because i found that play style interesting only to find out there going to be increasing the damage out put on them also now to be ahead of fighters, but behind Wizards. /sigh, like i said, if i wanted to be a DPS class and nuke hard, i would of rolled a wizard.</P> <P>Ontop of all that, you have price inflation thanks to bot farmers who have been getting banned alot lately, but its a bit too late, seeing they have created this whole mind set of what prices should be set at now, so in other words, there plan worked, they come into a game farm it too peices in the first few months, set the first run of prices, forcing people to buy plat offline, people buy plat offline that the bot farmers make and they then recycle the money and the money never leaves the system, bot farmers get banned, and because they had a constant flow of items for sale, there is all of a sudden a lack of these items, so people bump the prices up cause now there even more rare, causing people to buy even more plat, so then the bot farmers return to just farm cash now and constantly supply the demand of people who want to buy plat offline due to prices being hiked on items because its Bot farmers fault that these items are prices so crazy in the first place. There has been numerous ways to fix this problem but i wouldnt hold my breath to wait and see any of them any time soon.</P> <P>Anyway thats the least of our problems, and like ive said, does anyone think if they fixed Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells to begin with before adjusting any class from day one, do you think class's would be in such disarray in reguards to Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells and also in reguards to Buff Stacking which leads me into Agility / Strength being nerfed when they might not even had to be nerfed cause even after they were nerfed the problem still exsisted but SoE didnt pick it up till they divided the AC number into a Mitigation / Avoidance value. Just so many things really make me wonder.</P> <P>Taemek Frozenberg 45th Berserker<BR>16th Outfitter<BR>Everfrost Server<BR><BR>Enlightened Aonein Amillion ( retired )<BR>70th Stone Fist of The Celestial Fist<BR>Five Rings on Luclin Server</P> <p>Message Edited by -Aonein- on <span class=date_text>03-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:33 AM</span>

Hmm can anyone here tell me what MMORPG they've played that didnt have broken spells, class issues, re tuning and all the rest in it?  Even YEARS after release?  I've played EQ1, DAoC, CoH, AO, SWG, EQ2 and WoW and I've yet to come across one. Yet it seems to constantly confound people that this is the case.  <div></div>

<P>No one is saying there is Dashel, everyone alwasy skips past the point and twists things into something there not by comparing to other games, the point is when they know there is problems and they dont get fixed for months on end and they steer around them because they probally have plans down the track OR there fixed and they just expect us to blow of steam and forget about it when they could just post this is how it is, and by the way dont worry, the sweet little bug with rampgae will be fixed, so dont get too attached to it. EQ1 on the other hand was acually pretty good, if there was broken arts or skills they were usally fixed next patch.</P> <P>Most of the games you refer too all have PvP in them, its the hardest thing to balance when PvP is envolved plus also running a PvE enviroment at the same time, EQ2 is strictly PvE, nothing else, so all they have to do is fix our Combat Arts, Abilties and Spells and thats basically a template, but again, they might not be fixing the arts and spells cause they might have something planned, who knows, no one does and thats the problem. Buff stacking is also a major problem.</P> <P>Like i said, all it takes is once a month, just a update on each class forum, everyone is happy, if you played EQ1 enough, you would know how effective this can be.</P> <P>Taemek Frozenberg 45th Berserker<BR>16th Outfitter<BR>Everfrost Server<BR><BR>Enlightened Aonein Amillion ( retired )<BR>70th Stone Fist of The Celestial Fist<BR>Five Rings on Luclin Server</P><p>Message Edited by -Aonein- on <span class=date_text>03-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:09 AM</span>

<DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I won't compare the game to WOW or any other, because a game stands on its own merits and "is it better than game X" is not a merit. If you are comparing a game to another at all, then there is something wrong with the game.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV></DIV> <DIV> I think EQ2 is fun, but I tend to agree that much of the depth is taken out of the game.  The factions are pretty much unimportant in the game, except for one or two specific quests.  The user experience is basically the same whether you take good or evil, and the rich differences based upon the races and differnt cultures that existed in EQ1 just aren't there anymore except for the occaisional programmed comment by an NPC ("one day, we shall rise again blah blah blah").  Gone are the cultures and factions such as the Indigo Brotherhood, the Leatherfoot raiders, the Emerald Warrirors, etc.  Yes, cataclysm, I know.  but what replaced these factions? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> The monarchy of Lucan D'Lere (an undead human) and the monarchy of Antonia Bayle (a scantily clad human). 18 or so playable races, and 2 cultures, both  basically the same as far as user experience goes.  The only real difference I see is that NPCs are more rude in Freeport. </DIV> <DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh, I should qualify of course, factions are important if you belong to a guild.  If you do 150 non-soloable writs you can buy some interesting things for your house, things unavailable to non guilded players.  Things that actually look interesting as opposed to the things that members of the Carpentry tradeskill profession make.  (Nice little player economy perk there, not)</DIV></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> The graphics engine is great, and 90% of the player characters have the most stylish burlap bags in the gaming industry. After being teased with the image of Firiona Vie in her scanty armor and a kittenish pose, we buy the game to be dressed in burlap and flaps of rawhide hanging from our hips.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> The myriad zones and places to go in EQ1 is replaced with a straightline progression, you fight in A, then B, then C, and so on to zone Z, then you are level whatever and you can start a new char. Even the occaisional extra zones are locked away from players, requiring the luck of the draw to get that key item that allows access to the extra zones. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> As far as being a social game, a venue for RP and such, well...  When a game is set up so there players basically have 0 choice of differnt armor styles, or even color...  When furniture is for show and cannot be used interactively (lets all go to the inn and kneel on the floor by the tables to pretend we are sitting)... and when the factions are simply there to decide if a quest is available, or a dungeon can be accessed, or an item can be purchased that actually looks interesting as opposed to what player crafters can make, then that should be a hint at where the depth and soul of a game lies. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I also noticed an almost nihilistic cleansing of most religious references. Gone is the pantheistic mythos and culture of the original game.  The occaisional reference to Tunare and the Marr, but little else.  As though the content has been pushed through a strainer, sterilized and boiled down into a pasty homogeny of meaningless pap. A priest has no deity, she is just a healer spell caster, nothing more.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> So where is the depth?  Where is the distinctive and different armors and clothing for the non-guilded players?  Where are the different cultures that you should see in a multi-cultural universe?  Where is the religious and political factions of the old game?  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Finally, with all the deep talk of depth, I keep coming back to the furniture that cannot be used in any inn in the city.  There is a reason to dwell on what at first glance may seem so minor.  The point is, this actually shows much about the lack of depth and, to use the OP's reference, "soul" of the game.  The cities, the shops, the inns, the taverns, even the apartments we rent and fill with City Merchant furniture if we can, or player made furniture if we have to settle for second best, these are all like the Hollywood western town sets of old, having only a facade of buildlings and storefronts, a movie set for us to use for taking screenshots  in between dungeon raids and hunting trips.  We go out to find monsters, kill monsters, take loot, and return to the 2 dimensional cities to exchange bat hair for coins from a merchant with the interactive discourse of an ATM machine.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It pretty much points up the soul of a game, when everything is simply a conduit for fight, loot, sell, buy, fight.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Ah well, for many, that's all we need.  For others, perhaps we hang on in the hope that something more is forthcoming.  One thing is for sure, it is never a case of comparing to other games.  Either the game has that je ne sais quois or it does not, it matters little if another game has it or not.  The game is not 6 months old, and the drive of a large team of developers and content creators is evident in the changes so far.  But little depth is being added.  And to speak my opinion here, I believe the game is on the clock.  Will it last the 6 years that EQ 1 did?  That remains to be seen, as well as whether we will be following its success from occaisional news items on gamespot, or whether we will be following it from update notes as we log into the game. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

[expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] that was fun... then nerfed again.  Our debuffs were broken all the time. EQ1?  Dude I played a Ranger there to 65 before leaving.  Go check out the Rangers Glade right now, here's just one thread on the first page:http://forums.interealms.com/ranger/showthread.php?t=41018<span><blockquote><hr>Enough talk.It has been made abundantly clear that SoE do not understand our class, do not listen to what we tell them, are not willing to make anything but the most superfical changes, and most of all, do not even consider us a problem. While we are told we must make sacrifices, are not a top priority, or are not coded to get upgrades, other classes are given what are in some cases <i>the exact same upgrades</i> without debate. My question is simple: <i>Why are we still paying these people?</i>SoE is a commercial company. As the OOW Boycott showed, the only thing they listen to is the sound of pennies falling through their pocket. So if you want to get our class fixed, <b>cancel your account today</b>. Most of you will still have a month or more left on your current payment. This action will not mean that you cannot log onto Everquest for your friends or guilds tomorrow. Cancel your account. If our complaints are addressed, then we have a reason to pay money again. Until then, ask yourself, <b>why are you paying SoE for a broken product?</b>If you are one of the many rangers furious at our treatment and the stonewall response from the company, then cancel your account, and post your name and server to the list below if willing.<hr></blockquote>I'm not saying dont work to get stuff fixed, not at all.  It is a pain and I hate having broken skills.  All I'm saying is, this is true in every game out there.</span>.<div></div>

<P>Dashel still comparing games? Rangers arent the only class to get ignored, but reguardless how you look at it, Rangers were pretty balanced in EQ1. Try 3+ years in the monk forums banging you head on the wall trying to get a answer, the only answer we ever got was No or we are currently looking into it for 3 years. And not too mention good old Ashlanne just updating the date on the monthly class forum report.../sigh i can tell you i do not miss those days. By the way Dash, i played EQ1 for 4 years, UO, Baldurs Gate series, all the old school online games that were around like 10 years ago. The whole point is like Cheroyby pointed out, this game has more bugs then EQ1 did when it was first released because of the sheer complexitiy of the game, but you would think seeing this is a strictly PvE game and the experience SoE had with EQ1 they would better understand how to create a fun game and that the first thing they would do is fix Combat Arts, Abilities and Spells so they could act as a template for better and more precise archtype balance.</P> <P>Cheroyby and Einar438 point some exellent points with out refering to any other games. Exellent post Einar438. Very well directed and some things you put in there i was acually going to put in a new reply here, good stuff, its good too see that there is other people who miss the depth that EQ2 could potentially supply, but one things is for certain, can EQ2 go the distance like it did with EQ1? Only time will tell, and if they expect it too go for 6 years + which i acually hope it lasts longer then 6 years, they better start adding some serious soul and depth to some of these storylines and gameplay, cause as it is atm, well refer to Einar438 post, he says it all too well.</P> <P>Taemek Frozenberg 45th Berserker<BR>16th Outfitter<BR>Everfrost Server<BR><BR>Enlightened Aonein Amillion ( retired )<BR>70th Stone Fist of The Celestial Fist<BR>Five Rings on Luclin Server</P> <p>Message Edited by -Aonein- on <span class=date_text>03-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:41 PM</span>

<DIV>I know the game seems rushed out. Prolly was rushed out to get the attention of buyers before WOW came out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks to that we are having serious balance issues, broken skills and bugs all around. Been a while since i played EQ1,</DIV> <DIV>was there for 3 years, but i remember it didnt have so many broken skills at launch and changes were a lot slower than</DIV> <DIV>in EQ2 (and less radical too).  Maybe they had more time to test things out and were not in such a hurry to launch the game</DIV> <DIV>(since Ultima Online was the only "foe" to face in the market).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also agree that the first priority should be skill fixing,  i would rather have all classes skills fixed than to have expansion</DIV> <DIV>packs or certain "non-urgent" features in game solved. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the long run, i hope EQ2 makes it.....  im almost certain it will. In the past month i've seen the population in my server going</DIV> <DIV>down and then back up again. Zones are getting crowded again and i was surprised to see Ruins of Varsoon camped in every corner i ran.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What i would love to see in the future is our skills fixed, no more "radical" changes or "working as intended" changes, no more stealth nerfs and more information from the devs regarding class changes.  All the rest can come after and im a happy camper.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The game still lacks story though, lacks that lore factor we all been used in EQ1. Some things dont make sense yet, races dont matter at all in the game, evil-good war is a joke, interactivity with the world is almost non-existent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What i would love to see is a reason to choose evil or good, quests that actually change the way the world evolves. Players changing the world, recovering lost cities,  monthly server events,  a  reason to be called Qeynosian or Freeportian.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would love to say one day:  "i was there that morning, when that horde of orcs attacked our city,  burned our lands and attacked our newbies,  was a hard fight but we won and then moved to their fortress and gave them revenge"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Dont know if this will ever happen, but at least would be cool to see the  Evil/Good aspect of the game being developed.  Evil / Good only dungeons / equipment could be added, quests that actually affect each sides (not only those silly saboutage ones).  A real war between  Antonia and the Overlord, affecting each side in a way that really matters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Before all that though,  a strong base is needed,  skill / class fixes are the priority.  If they keep adding content before fixing major bugs/broken skills,  they will build a castle over quicksand foundries and sooner or later that castle's gonna fall.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just hope it doesnt.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Davish</P> <P>Good points, the next great challenge with MMORGs in my opinion in breaking out of the "static" world.  At somepoint everyone should have an opportunity to effect an outcome on the meta world.  They tried this in the old game...with the fall of Grobb.  But they failed in that there was only 1 possible outcome (Trolls lose) no matter how much the players fought agaonst it.</P> <P>Now if they could add stuff like that on a periodic basis with REAL alternatives on a meta scale...well thats the stuff fantasy is made of.  How they would manage different servers getting different outcomes and how they would handle all the players flooding an area are challenges to be overcome.</P> <P>All in good time however....long way to go with this game yet.</P>
