View Full Version : Pulling with a bow then stopping ranged attack

Ok maybe this is a newbie question and I'm doing something wrong or missing something obvious. Then again maybe it's just a known bug and accepted.Say I'm pulling with a bow as I often do. I shoot an arrow, the mob comes, life is good. Once it gets in range I hit an attack such as Relentless Battering. I switch to my Melee weapon from my Bow automatically, but get the *You are too close to your target move back!" for my autoattacks (meaning non special attacks). Seems like the game still thinks I have a bow equipped. Now normally I know this is coming so I toggle attack off, and then start attacking again which fixes it. Does everyone do this? Does everyone find it as annoying as I do? Am I missing something obvious? A macro that helps?

<DIV>As soon as I shoot the arrow, I hit the "~" key, which puts you in melee attack mode.  Good luck!</DIV>

<DIV>You can still use melee skills when using a bow. So once you pull with your bow, make sure you switch back to melee attack.</DIV>

<DIV>turn your autofire thingy off then turn your attack on...It thinks you are trying to attack with a bow</DIV>

Here's a little tip I discovered playing SWG. Hopefully this will not only help you, but help others. What i did was MACRO my melee attack key to my middle mouse button. You can goto options and under keyboard I think program your melee attacks to be done by just "popping" the middle mouse button. This helps a whole lot for me in attacking quickly without having to find my melee attack button on toolbar. Hope this helps ya out.

<DIV>Another thing you can do is just hit your ranged button after you fire the arrow.  It's a toggled button.</DIV>

<DIV>Yes, the answer is to hit that "~" key.  Don't worry though, you'll mess up again eventually.  Over the weekend I was pulling those sharks at the docks in Zek.  Using the bow, bring one in close to shore and wail on them.  Rinse. Repeat.  Well anyway, I pull a yellow (had been yankin the orange ones up till then) and notice that this SOB is really taking me down and I can't seem to make a dent.  Of course that's when I realized I was still attacking with the bow! LOL  well switched over to melee and finished the chud.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am going to try some of the other options mentioned here.  Would hate for that mistake to happen again:smileyvery-happy:</DIV>

I've always just hit my ranged attack button twice. Once to fire it, once to turn off auto range attack. Then I usually use a fast ability like raging strike to take my first hit and turn on auto attack automatically. I will probably start using ~ instead, that seems a lot easier.

<DIV>I think the weapon delay may also come into effect there,  most longbows have an insane delay of like 7.0 seconds. So I'm guessing that if you fire off a single shot even if you switch back to Melee weapons you still wont be able to actually land a hit until the 7 second timer has passed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I find I have the same issue but the delay on the bow is what I always put it down to.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just a thought.</DIV>

<DIV>Interesting,  I find I don't notice it much because as soon as the mob is in range I use either Enrage or Anger before actually starting melee.  By that time I'm actually able to attack I guess.  It'd be interesting to find out what actually causes it then.</DIV>

I use the ranged hotkey 1 time to pull, then i hit my AOE Taunt and click the melee hotkey to start swinging. After that it is just mashing all my three rows of hotkeys and hitting taunts as they cool down <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><p>Message Edited by Krullgan on <span class=date_text>01-27-2005</span> <span class=time_text>08:17 AM</span>
