Weapon shield vs. soldier's stance

I did some playing with Soldiers stance and then with piercing (my lowest skill). Soldier's Stance lowers your skill in weapons. From what I've found, it doesn't effect damage at all. The skill level seems directly control your ability to hit mobs. The lower the skill, the less likely you are to hit, but I don't think it lowers the skill by enough to really hinder us in any way due to our habit of having topped out or weapon skill <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
