View Full Version : One Berserker's Manifesto
Kaberu

<DIV>I am Kaberu, Warrior of the Teir'Dal.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am a child of Innoruuk, the Prince of Hate.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I focus my creator's gift into a seething rage the likes of which few have seen.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Those who fear me call me Berserker.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am a ferocious fighter and will not relent until my foe has fallen. Some hide behind their shields. Some dance and weave in a foolish attempt to avoid harm. So many of them panic and flee or hide in a flurry of parries as they stumble over their own feet in a wayward retreat.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Stab me. Cut me. Make me bleed. I welcome every blow, every slash... Such anguish makes me feel alive. Such anguish makes me believe I have a soul. Such anguish makes me... angry.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Monks of Qeynos and the Freeport gangs of Bruisers are skilled fighters indeed. I have seen even the smallest and weakest of them tackle the greatest monsters with but subtle and gentle motions. In a Fighter's duel they are perhaps the most efficient and trained. I have no patience for training. Old men telling me my sword is too low or my stance is too open... that is a job for the easily controlled.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Guardians on the other hand have little in the way of training. They shelter themselves in shells of iron and steel, becoming a fortress which their foe rarely finds a weakness. Tough indeed, stong as well... but much too passive for the callings of a true warrior.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Let the Crusader's dabble in their magics and gods... let the Paladins pray and the Shadowknights study... for they need something to cover their weaknesses, to protect them when they lack the power to overcome the obstacles of life and death.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But what of the poor Berserker?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Will I win a fight of one on one? Of course, though not as quickly as the Monk or Bruiser.</DIV> <DIV>Will I withstand the beating of a hundred fists? Perhaps, yet to the Guardian, "tis but a scratch!" </DIV> <DIV>Will I wield dark magics or summon godly might? Nay, not today.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But darkness will fall, the dawn of fire will soon arise</DIV> <DIV> The Orcs, biding their time will soon break the gates of Freeport</DIV> <DIV> Waves of goblins will pour across the lands in a tide of blood</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When the Brawlers are overwhelmed by sheer number...</DIV> <DIV>When the Crusaders' magic fail, and prayers go left unheard...</DIV> <DIV>When the Guardian can wait no more in his turtle-like shell...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will be there.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And I will kill them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will kill them all.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>>>>>></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is essentially my statement and I guess petition concerning future and pending "fixes." Guardians should have better defense capabilities. Brawlers should be able to do more damage... against a single target. In my experiences thus far, this already seems to be true. Berserkers on the other hand should be the "more damage class" for group mobs. Fighting a single double underconned pull is not the berserker's fortay. Fighting a group of enemies is. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is my voice asking you to keep this as a consideration when making changes. Perhaps you already have, in which case I thank you. If not, I hope this is remembered as a good suggestion that will prevent you from needing to make future "fixes" to compensate for an unbalance in the other direction.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
Well written <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I hope they do keep these sorts of things in mind, but the group encounters now hit harder change, isnt giving me a great deal of hope in that direction

One of the most well written thing lately, makes me shiver. I raise my sword to you..." We will kill them.We will kill them all. "It is poetry like that that makes me proud to be a Berserker.Odenn3x Berserker on LucanHonor & Steel
<DIV>Your last statement says it best (btw, the poem sent shivers up my spine, VERY nice), we need to fix the way damage is being dealt in encounters, NOT the way it's being dealt by the player. Sure, in a one on one fight a Monk/Bruiser should do some heavy damage, but can you see them charging into a horde of orcs, surrounded by the enemy, and still being able to fight? Not gonna happen... so who IS going to be there in the midst of all that, turning the tide of battle by sheer ferocity alone? It won't be us anymore that's for sure!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't know if you guys have ever read David Eddings' books, but I always enisioned my Berzerker like Druss the Legend, a HUGE man with a HUGE Axe, anchoring the line against enemies or taking the fight TO the enemy. Or maybe Conan the Barbarian, I don't care what armor I have so long as I have a huge weapon I can take into battle and slaughter people with. Now I'm more like the guy who leads the reserves, who's day is almost done, but itching for one last fight like the good ol' days. I'm sorely disappointed with the way this is being handled, and I still don't understand the logic that people who play other classes are offering.</DIV> <DIV><BR>A SCOUT does more damage than I do in a large mob? With what, his bow? Or his Rapier? What happened to my 50 pound AXE? Sure, Mages do more damage or even equal damage...of a different kind.... Maybe the mages should have to memorize their spells, carry reagents, and fizzle like they did in Ultima Online? That would balance them out in my opinion... with those little stones they use to trade heath for power they don't ever have to worry about NOT doing damage because they don't ever get attacked! Because in the end, a good Guardian or Berzerker is the ONLY thing that allows that mage to do his job, think carefully guys or YOU will be left on the field of battle alone, where will your scouting and playing dead help you then? How will you cast a spell when you have 3 or 4 NPC's chasing you down, or even 8? Can you cast a spell and kill one then? Sure, you can mez them but then what?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Like my friend Niteflyx from the guild Sleepless says, I can do 700 damage in one minute of continous fighting, but he can do that with one hit from one of his spells. How's that for balance? </DIV>
