Hey guys, I was wondering what you all did due to the lack of power that guardians seem to have.I am stuck only casting taunts during a fight because otherwise I will lose al my power and cant keep up a fast pulling pace.Any hints or tips? Thanks

Lack of power can be a result of many factors. As you said yourself, a fast pace requires fast power consumption, thus you simply need to make friends with a bard or enchanter. I group with my raiding Coercer everyday almost, or my raiding dirge. Never do I run out of power, and both provide hate buffs which make tanking even easier. Really in the end, you might have to slow down a bit for more consistant gameplay.

It is a bit of a problem on a raid - even with a dirge and coercer with M1/2 regens you can consume power faster than it regenerates, on full burn. I don't know any other tank class capable of this.

Basically, you're hitting a manastone, vessel of the fyr'un, shards and hearts and soon as they come up, whilst drinking power regen potions, with the coercer feeding you power, have some power regen gear, and you can just manage a sustained full burn. Yes, you can slow it down, but that means the dps have to back off, and that slows the whole raid down.

In groups, I pretty much use beholder totems / manastone / potions constantly, and even then it's usually a case of trying to do just enough dps to keep the mobs on you, rather than as much as you can. It's a big problem when soloing; you usually run oop before you can do enough damage to kill a green ^^^.

Don't forget to use your big hit combat arts (obliterate, retaliation strike, etc). These generate a good amount of hate, and also adds dps to the group. They are a bit more power to use than a regular taunt, but also include nice debuffs that should also generate hate, while allowing group members to do more damage (ie, shorter fights). I also did the aa line to reduce the cast time of reinforcement (2 min, 10 seconds now) - a good power-free way to hold/get back aggro.

The buckler line is also a good way to add some dps, and hold aggro better using less taunts. Spirit of the monkey (or any out of combat power regen items) totems are a good source of power regen between pulls. If you want to increase your power pool, depending on what you are fighting and your equipment/how much healing you need, use your offensive stance.

Message Edited by Lexli on 12-01-2006 07:55 AM

There are a few pieces of gear out there that have a little FT on them. I still use my awakend scalelord BP when grouping. Also there are some adornments, one had FT3 for your cloak, there is a weapon adornment "phantom" I think it is, that sucks power from the mob and gives it to you.

4 classes will make this easier.Dirge, Coercer, Swashbuckler or Assassin.Get at least one of them in your group. 2 give hate and power, the others hate. either will mean you can taunt less and use less power.

In groups if I find I am running low on power before the others, I simply do less damage and let the dps do more. It slows down slightly but the power consumption evens out. Sometimes I try to hit everything like i'm on a raid and I drain power way faster than I need to in a group. In raids, I have very rarely run low on power before the healers with coercer/dirge. Coercers have several mana regen spells and manacloak in a pinch. Druids have spirit of the bat. Mention to the coercer in the group and I bet you can get some more regen that wasn't 'there' at first. (fyi i mention coercers only because that's all i group with .. i'm sure illusionists are similar) If you consistently run low on power in raids and mob doesn't have mana drain) and you have a chanter and dirge and spirit of the bat and good drink and manastone there may be a problem with your power pool. Check stats and see about switching up for stat or FT gear. For mana drain mobs have coercer use manacloak and whatever that skill is that redistributes the groups mana.Just my 2cp...

I was in a MM group with a great fabled MT last night. We had a coercer that helped with power, otherwise it was a standard group.

Anyways the MT held aggro in every encounter, however he never dipped below 90% power. Going full burn on CA's and taunts is actually not necessary to hold aggro depending on what you have mastered and group setup.

Like said above, hate classes are perfect. Add a high DR weapon + haste and you'll find thru experimenting that spamming CA's is usually a waste of power. Sometimes just taunting and autoattacks can be plenty, leaving your high damage CA's available as rescue options.

Remember, your doing everything you can to hold aggro. Your teammates should be doing everything THEY can to reduce theirs. Make sure your scouts are not using their deaggros defensively. They should be used offensively everytime they are available. Mages should recieve any hate reducers and adjust their DPS to meet your needs.

A fast chain pulling tank will run out of power faster since he is always engaged for the longest time and sometimes almost permanently. Before I could ae pull stuff I sometimes got another member of the group to pull for me when I was running low thus giving me an extra tick or so of out of combat regen before the mob reached us.

I found I could go slow burn on mana and do ok, but some encounters were giving some real issues. We were doing Court again for guild xp grinding. When someone managed to spike dammage and pull agro, I was having to burn ALOT of power to get it back. The encounters with curse of insanity (can't let power get below mobs health or your head might explode) was causing some real problems. Spirit of the Bat + Dirge/coercer helped alot on this. You might have to wrestle your druid to cast this on you instead of himself, but its a nice single taget incombat mana regen.

Agro is all about agro transfer from another class. If I'm not grouped with my wife the Assasin agro is always an issue and I have to burn throuh everything I have to keep agro. I even have buckler spec AA's so on easy stuff I go offensive and agro is still a problem. I'm always using atleast twice the power others are. If I am grouped with my wife the Assassin I just do a taunt or two at the beginning of the fight and maybe one half way through and keep swining while I swivel my 3rd person view around looking for interesting art on the walls of the dungeon. It's just so night and day I think that it has to be broken every time I start getting bored looking at the walls while the group fights.

Many tanks complained about power usage required to maintain agro months and months ago so they just added a crutch and gave agro transfer to a bunch of classes which now locks them into MT groups on raids and such. They have broken agro numbers in group situations so thye just add junk spells to fix their crap and forever fixed what the MT group looks like on raids. Such is SOE and such is EQ2. Get used to it. When I see no agro transfer peron in a group I start thinking of other things I can do like tradeskill or harvest '?' instead of group and fight.

Wow I just noticed this last night soloing my first Guardian at only Lv 6. Power seems to be evaporiate. My low level Monk seems to have power and then some. Does the Beserker class run into the same issue with power?

At 69 my power pool is around 3,500. This is self buffed with around 400 str as well. Grouped, with str buffs and all ( i'm always grouped with a Dirge & Templar ) I sit at about 700+ str wich takes my mana to about 4,000. I do use alot of mana, without a doubt, constantly spamming every attack/taunt skill i have if i see it up. Again, with a dirge using their mana song, it greatly helps. Although at the end of most battles I do find myself around 50% power. The totems that do out of combat power regen now stack as long as they are of different tiers. I personally use the beholder/hawk totems. With my drink, thats about 350 mana regen out of combat. So it only takes a few seconds to get full power. Also, the Manastone is a fairly easy low level heritage quest, probly one of the few that has a reward you will use your whole eq career. I spam it as much as possible.
