Hello had a question about a guardians role in groups. I am a 33 zerker and tend to put together my own groups. I had a guardian as mt the other night and he wanted me to be mt and I said no that a guards job is mt. After thinking about it i realized this might be unfair because I don't know that for sure. So please help with my ignorance<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Can a guard bring something to a group without being mt? Would there be a benifit to having more than one guard in a group? Thanks for the help.

Was the guardian lower than you? I group with a berserker and he is a few levels higher than me, for the most part he tanks, but when we are doing stuff that is lower level to him, and more close to my level I tank and he dps's. I think that guardians and berserkers can swap out the tanking role effectively in single group situations. I have not done any raiding so I don't know how it would work out for that situation.<div></div>

<P>Zerkers and Guardians tend to shine in different ways in the MT role.</P> <P>Assuming equivalent level and gear... </P> <P>- Guardians are usually the better MT choice when defense is at a premium, i.e. against a tough named mob or very difficult fights.  You will kill safer since Guardians have some amazing defensive tricks.</P> <P>- Zerkers are usually the better MT choice when dealing with groups of mobs, i.e. getting to the named mob.  You will kill faster since Zerkers have great group aggro contol and your group can unleash their AOEs earlier. </P><p>Message Edited by Covenant on <span class=date_text>11-12-2006</span> <span class=time_text>06:23 PM</span>

Guardians in groups suck, I dont know why you would make guardian unless you plan on raiding.<div></div>

<DIV>guardians are always the better choice for tanking assuming gear is equal. doesnt matter if its singles, groups, or multiple singles. the guardian will always be the first choice for any group.</DIV>

<DIV>In theory with gear being near equal the answer to your question is that you <U>both</U> bring something to the group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><U>both</U> have skills that are activated only when you are hit<BR>     Beserker generates damage and hate on this condition    +DPS/Hate poss of more damage taken<BR>     Guardian generates pure hate on this condition                 +Hate less damage taken</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><U>both</U> can self buff there defensive attributes one faviring <FONT color=#ff6666>Heat </FONT>(Guardian) and one favoring <FONT color=#99ccff>Cold</FONT> (Beserker)</DIV> <DIV><BR><U>both</U> can protect other group members from damage recieved.Benefit to class diff is<BR>     Beserker +AGI<BR>     Guardian +Parry<BR>                     Several additional skills that allow the guard to recieve the damage another group member is taking.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Group buffs</STRONG><BR>     Beserker +STR<BR>                     +Def pri focus on crush<BR>                     + Increas in combat health regen<BR>     Guardian +Offense<BR>                     +Def pri focus on slash, pierce<BR>                     +Increase max health of group</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Beserker offer<BR>     several skill lines that are ofensive in nature boosting attack speed and mellee combat</DIV> <DIV>Guardians offer <BR>     pure hate generation without the need to do damage to a encounter</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Debuffs</STRONG><BR>     Both<BR>             - Offensive skill<BR>     Beserker<BR>             - Focus skill<BR>     Guardian<BR>             - Power or - attack skills (one or the other ca reads - power)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The difference is then </DIV> <DIV>  1. The Beserker is going to do more damage and will have an edge in group/cold/can hit the ecounter aggro generation<BR>  2. The Guardian is going to add more damage taking utility and have the edge in heat/hard to hit encounters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Amazingly this 1 to 33 example continues on down the line to the end game. So depending on the encounter one warrior will have a slight edge over the other. </DIV> <DIV><BR>Currently most content (non raid) gives the Beserker the advantage since the faster you kill the mob, coupled with the base ability <BR>of the warrior class to mitigate the encounters damage slants the advantage to the Zerker.</DIV> <DIV><BR>Now if you decide to hunt that orange con, named mob that will riposte attacks and is hard to hit then the Guardian shines.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Game content is largley (95%) the run of the mill mob with a named that will drop some form of legendary gear most of us can get.<BR>That 5% (and that is WAY to much percent imho, really .5%) of the content a Guardian can manage the damage he recieves if MT and if not<BR>can manage the damage some critical support class recieves but at a high cost to himself and his equipment. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All of this of course assumes that CA skill is equal, gear is near equal and MOST IMPORTATNLY both players know how to use there class<BR>to its best potential!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hope that answers your question.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Rahge</DIV> <DIV>70 Guardian, establishing the near useless baseline for tank classes daily!</DIV><p>Message Edited by Rahge on <span class=date_text>11-13-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:04 AM</span>

Unless the guard was better equipped (more mit) or higher level than you, you should have been the tank, unlees mit and level were equal and you were fighting orange and red mobs. Other than MT a guard has no real role in a group. He can contribute but any healer, DPS, or even other fighter could bring more. <div></div>

Guardians do have the ability to daze non-epic opponents - stopping auto-attacks for a while. I think both can knockdown and stun with a shield equipped.<div></div>
