<DIV>How effective would a Guardian be using 2 handed weapons? I understand they would lose the shield line of spells/abilities, but I think I read elsewhere on this board that they could hold more agro because they are doing more damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So are 2handed weapons good for a guard? And what kind? Any particular type of 2 hand weapon to concentrate on? Or just go for the one that does the most damage at the time? Thanks.</DIV>
<DIV>PROS of 2-handed weapons...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. You do more damage (so you can kill faster)</DIV> <DIV>2. More damage means you get more aggro but not much</DIV> <DIV>3. 2 handed crush weapons seem to do more damage (hammers, clubs etc)</DIV> <DIV>4. But 2 handed SWORDS look sooo cool to equip and use</DIV> <DIV>5. Good for soloing</DIV> <DIV>6. More stats on a 2-handed weapon that a 1-handed one</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>CONS of 2-handed weapons...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. You take more damage because of no shield</DIV> <DIV>2. 2-handed not really that good to use for tanking in a group</DIV> <DIV>3. Slower to use that 1-handed</DIV> <DIV>4. 1-handed and shield both have more stats when used together</DIV>

<P>The best advice for later levels is to try and max all your weapon skills at each level (I'm speaking from experience, because getting pierce from 100-350 at level 70 was tedious). So don't focus too much on any one weapon type.</P> <P>2H weapons have long delay, so they don't interfere with CA damage since you can swing, use a CA, then swing again. If you're using dual wield you'll usually miss an attack or two whilst the CA fires. Slower attacks also mean you take less riposte damage. 2H weapons are also usually cheaper and easier to obtain than good dual-wield weapons since you're not competing with 6 scout classes for them.</P> <P>That said, at the same quality, 2 dual wield weapons tend to give more autoattack damage than a 2H, by about 10%.</P> <P>Many groups will complain if you don't use a shield ~ sometimes they're needed, most of the time if you have decent armor and a competent healer they're not. The buckler AA line gives you the best of both worlds if you have enough AA to max the double attack, although you do have to deal with some idiot asking why you're using a buckler once a day.</P>

<P>i'd go DW before 2H for tanking... espically at lower lvls you have alot of downtime between CAs refreshing... the difference between sword and board and a 2H really isn't much dps...</P> <P>but the way to go really is the buckler spec if you want dps, you just get to look like you're carrying a purse =0... soloing and grouping its the best AA line warriors have... some raid MTs like it, some don't (if anyone on oasis wants to donate 13p to me to try it out again i will <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> )...</P> <P>PUGs in general are more comfortable with a tanking useing a sword and board, it just gives them a warm and fuzzy (healers especially)...</P>

<DIV>I always preffered dual wield over a 2 hander as for one its slightly easier to switch to a shield (simply hotkey a tower shield, make sure you know how to do this).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just get into the practice of switching your weapon setup depending on what you are fighting, eg swap your shield in if its a named.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Having said that Im buckler till they nerf it. I have a realtively unusial guardian aa set of 448,448,448 taking dps, haste and double attack to max.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To many people make a big deal about tanks not using shields, In my opinion its generally rubbish a shield helps of course but if your healer is keeping up you are fine, if you have 2 healers the chances are your group could use a little extra dps so put the shield away.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On a similar note do not be afraid to tank in your offensive stance either, as long as you are not near death every fight and your healers have good power winning the fight is all that counts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
