<div></div><div>I would like to discuss the flaws in the Guardian's ability to "Protect" group members, and "Intercept" the damage intended for them.</div><div> </div><div>First, in my oppinion, the best way for Guardians to protect group-mates is by maintaining agro.</div><div> </div><div>Once agro is lost, it is the Guardians job to get it back, and keep the guy th mob is beating on from getting dead.</div><div> </div><div>The problem is, our <strong>protect</strong> and <strong>intercept </strong>lines don't really do all that much. Why can I not parry and block for a group-mate? Why does my armor not mitigate the damage i take when i intercept for a group-mate? Wards are applied after mitigation, why not intercepts?</div><div> </div><div>If i'm to be the "unsung hero" buffbot, at least make it worth while to have me in the group while someone else tanks.</div><div> </div><div>Thanks,</div><div>The Guardian Community at Large</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div></div><p>I agree at least we would feel useful when others were MT especially avoidance tanks. I guess the dev's think that would overpower the group by basically allowing the group MT to have a lot more HP's so to speak if used in that manner. I dunno that's my guess anyways.</p><p> </p>

<div>I use them sometimes, but that is because there is no real better alternative.</div><div> </div><div>I dislike that for instance, I have a 40% chance to decrease the damage on a groupmate on any hit by 35% <em>while I take 80% of the full blow, unmitigated as well as the regular DPS the mob does to me</em>.</div><div> </div><div>So in effect the mob, for that short time, is doing <em>145% of its normal hit damage.</em> 65% of the full hit to the protected and 80% of the full hit to me. So by using this line, I have increased the mobs overall DPS everytime intercept activates.</div><div> </div><div>Why does everything Guardian need to have some idiotic downside associated with it? HTL is another classic example with having to wildly decrease defense to make it viable. Penalties like this just make me not want to use intercept lines on mobs that really matter. What is so wrong with just dividing up 100% of the full damage?</div><div> </div><div>When the faecal matter hits the fan, why would I deliberately increase the mobs DPS that much more?</div>

Why does our utility always have to snare us, root us, slow us, explode our hearts, increase the damage taken by the group, or damage our equipment? It just feels overly punative imho. </p>

<div></div><p>A possible idea with guardian intercept damage lines.</p><p>First, of course, have the damage recieved by the guardian mitigated by the guards' mit instead of teh target.</p><p>But maybe adjust the skills in this manner: when a guard intercepts damage, a portion of the damage taht the guard recieves become an encounter Hate generation (ie. guardian takes 1k damage on the intercept, have it proc 500 encounter hate or something.. ratio just off the top of my head). That way, if we lose agro.. we have a way of getting it back while outright "guarding" our group members.</p>

<div></div><div>Geothe: I have said something similar in the past. When a guardian intercepts, parry's or blocks for a ally it should generate meaningful hate. The same should apply for the other fighter classes as well but the guardians skill should hands down have a higher bonus.</div><p>Message Edited by Warbird1 on <span class="date_text">01-27-2006</span><span class="time_text">01:03 PM</span></p>

<div>Those are some nice ideas. Would make our ulities nice. But if we wanna use them when were not MT the hate generated is a waste. Our protective lines would be a ncie palce to tweak us to balance us out. Then if they do improve them lets get the word out quick cuz i swear the casters are always far away when they get aggro. I have to work my way slowly over to them cuz of our HTL hehe.</div><div> </div><div>Question. How does sentry watch work? Can someone detail it to me?</div><div> </div><div>Also how do u guys spread around your protective skills with a small reason why. Curious to know how we each work. Thanks.</div>

<div></div><p>Ex,</p><p>First, i have only used the protec/intercept skills on a very limited basis. Only once, <em>once,</em> in a raid. I intercepted damage inteded for a Templar. I died from the unmitigated damage, and the templar died in the next hit.</p><p>Also, casters need to realize that we're rooted, snared, slowed, and our hearts are about to explode. When they get agro, they need to come a-runnin to us so we can get it back.</p>
