<DIV>WHHEEEE !</DIV> <DIV> Just leveled my new toon to 20, fitted on all new Imbued Carbonite armor and weapons, WOW this is fun. My 57 Wizard is gonna have to sit back and snivel while I Ignore him for a while heh.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I upgraded most of my CAs to Adept 1, and I am gonna get AD 3 for all my Taunts and Buffs. Should I spend the money on a horsey? I dont mind poking about with SoW totems, and my guild is 30+ so I could get her a nice one, but would it be helpful for pulling and such as I continue to level? Just wondering what you veterans think. And should I bother with Rare crafted armor? or wait a bit. I been careful to keep a wide array of weapon types, and all my skills are at or mear max.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am working hard to get high enough to get my Heritages going, obviously many I have already done as a weeztard that I thought would be useless will be invaluable to my Guardian. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have hung up the Bathrobe, and greatly enjoying the stick and board, and clankity clank when I walk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kerthwack 20 Gnome Guardianess</DIV> <DIV>Kablammo 57 Gnome Wizard</DIV> <DIV>Nomads, Blackburrow</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(I know I know, gnome not the bestest race for this but what I like to play)</DIV>

<DIV>Welcome. Your road ahead of you can be tough at times and often a thankless one. But know that by putting yourself in the path of the enemy you help keep you friends alive, well at least most of the time. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Keep your CA's up there. As far as the horse goes, you might hold off. Keep an eye out for cheap feysteel and ebon, because you will be very happy when you have them later on. Steel armor you can probably live without. The Armor Quest armor is pretty decent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Try and get adept 3's of your taunts and defensive stance, but don't spend to much money on them. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good Luck.</DIV>

<P>Thanks 8-)</P> <P>I will do that. I have a unique perspective having leveled a wizard (in EQ1 and EQ2), I know how important being a tank is. But I never realized how difficult it really is until I tried it.</P> <P>Strategies and playstyles I am somewhat familiar with, turning the Mob after a pull and good placement, good solid fast pulling that is safe.</P> <P>What I am learning is, how much the tank is depended upon as a leader. You determine where the party goes, how fast and which mobs get pulled, and hopefully how many (hehe). I had no idea how difficult the Buff and Weapon selection for optimum performance is. And I am really impressed with the absolute incredible job the many Tanks I have routinely played with have done (Wump/Gallah/Perfuse is the man by the way). And many others I have played with in pickup groups as well. It looks so easy and simple, til I strapped on the Plate. And these darned Nukers (LOL) wow.</P> <P>Just wanted to add, I am really diving into this whole heartedly, and will strive mightily to be a credit to the brave and proud ranks of warriors that have gone before me.</P> <P>We really oughtta have a motto, the Marines have "Semper Fi", and the Army has "Hooo-ah", hrmmm, whats ours? Wait, I know "LEEERROOOY JEEEENKINNNNS!"</P> <P>Hehe just kidding.</P> <P>Kerthwack</P> <P>Hrmm I need a good second name. Kablammo Suddendeath was my nuker, gotta work on one for her.</P>

Quit your Guard and pick another Fighter class, thats my advice. Guards are useless <div></div>

<DIV>Gnome Guardians FTW! Alot of nay sayers will tell you that gnome is not the class for a guardian to be because they are too small to see yadda yadda yadda. I have taken my gnome guardian all the way to 70 and can tell you that I would take a gnome/halfling/ratonga guardian over a Huge race any day. And I state this for the following reasons.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) As a gnome/ratonga/halfling in the beginng you have an edge on your avoidance percental because these races are endowed with higher agility to start than some of the bigger races. At end game this matters not as much because gear evens out any race in the grand scheme of things.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) The argument of gnomes are too small to see you should be a troll. At level 40 you get the fun spell Form of the Rook which essentially turns you into a mid size golem so that takes out the your too small to see on raids aspect making it a moot point.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3) Gnomes get a racial trait called Confusing Babble which is an agro decreaser. This is a great ability to have as a guardian on raids if you are not the main tank. If the MT goes down in a fiery storm of death you can pick up the hate with rescue/reinforce and once he is up and buffed can drop the hate back to him with Confusing Babble. This is a huge bonus to being a gnome guardian.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But 4) is where being a smaller race is better IMO as a guardian. Social agro is based off of your characters mass and size. You can easily see it in places like SoS where a gnome can run down the middle of the room and not one mob agro them but a barbarian tries it and every mob in the room turns to attack them. This aspect makes body pulling so much easier. I can pull off some wicked body pulls because of my size that other tanks could never be able to do. In OOB you can litterally run to the other side of a table and be standing across from the mob and it wont even look at you twice till you jump up in the air so they can see you over the table. So good for you for choosing a gnome guardian.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now as to the aspect of what to buy and when. In your pre 50s the only spells you need to worry about making adept III is your taunts and your hate, defensive stance, mitigation, stamina, and your dehate buff. Other than that worry about armor and tower shields. Mitigation is your friend and taunt is your only ally in the war against power dpsers. Until you are in to tier 7 focus on working on the STR (Executioner) AA line to get more hate. Because no one is going to turn you down for tanking Giants in POF because you don't have over 2.5k mitigation. Like groups for Castle Mistmore will if your mit isn't over 4.5k self buffed. So focus on your hate then your mitigation AA line. Other than that keep at it and you will be 70 in no time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Nerish Cogsprocket</DIV> <DIV>70 Gnomish Tank</DIV> <DIV>Befallen Server</DIV>

<P>IMO, In the end race has little to no effect on how well you tank.</P> <P>Oh and thanks for resurrecting up a 14-15 month old post. :smileytongue:</P>
