View Full Version : LU16 Stealth Nerf to Taunts

<DIV>I'm not sure exactly what they changed, but it greatly impacted taunts. Basically, when you pull a mob the mob runs at you until it has you in it's melee range and it stops. This was always fine. But now when you are fighting Giant/Large size mobs their melee range (where they stop) is outside taunt range. I don't know if taunt range was reduced or if mob melee range was increased. This can be extra frustrating when it's a group of mobs. You move into taunt range for the one you are attacking and the others are out of range. It's also more difficult now to position the mob correctly...if you want your back to a wall and you back up to the wall the mob follows you but stops out of taunt range and you can't back up further to get it to come closer. When you get punted the mob follows you but again stops out of aggro range. The workaround is to pull the mob a ways along the wall until it's close to the wall, then run up in between the mob and the wall...which means that it takes another 15-20 seconds to get the mob in position and the extra running around means more chances of adds.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyone else notice this?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The red icons for CA's that are out of range are a good idea, although I wouldn't mind if the red weren't quite so bright.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Didn't notice this at all last night. Only time I experience the problems you mention is when the idiot rangers lay down traps too far from where I pull to, leaving the mobs out of taunt range, but sometimes still in nuke range. Much to the dismay of some nuke happy finger waglers in my group lol.</DIV>

The new "redding out" of out of range skills may have effected distance, I have not had a chance to try the new changes out yet.
<P>I noticed a huge problem with taunts last night. I just jumped on to make a post about it and saw this one. Even without stopping outside of range there is definately something wrong. One thing I have never had a problem with is holding agro, last night was a joke. I'm a lvl 55 guardian. I went to Silent City last night with a guildie (lvl 58 Warden) and the rest were pickup- 56 illusionist, 53 paly, 55 ranger, and a 54 dirge. I could not hold agro TO SAVE MY LIFE! The paly would get agro, the chanter would get egro even when not mezing, even my guildie was getting agro. Now I hunt with the warden every night and he sent me a tell saying that something was wrong, even his little dots were drawing agro. Now I know sometimes pickup groups are shaky, but all my taunts are adept3/master2 and even with rescue I was having a hard time peeling mobs off.</P> <P>Well the paly had to go after some amount of time. I thought that maybe he was taunting like crazy (even though I was sending him tells saying don't taunt, careful agro control plz) this was pulling em off me so maddening defense wasn't working and things were going wrong from there. Nope...paly left and agro problems continued. albeit SLIGHTLY better. Over the course of the next few hours people left and others joined and the problems continued.</P> <P>All I know is something is broken. Holding agro was the one thing that was never an issue for me, but last night was a disaster.</P>

i had a lil but of trouble holding aggro as well last night. Was in the Roost with the same group I've gone in with the last 3 times and lost my aggro a few times then we went into Poet's Palace for the first time and I couldn't hold it to save my life. My taunts were getting resisted left and right in PP but that's to be expected i guess (was 7-8 levels below most of the mobs) but there was definately some difference in the roost. My g/f's Illusionist pulled aggro about 5 times in there and I hadn't seen that since we were in our 20's.

I was tanking voxx last night, noticed this happen, but I could still use the red skills despite that meaning you are out of range.
<P>Look, the dev team don't want anyone playing guardians. We must see that. They just don't want to delete guardians because some got on playing other classes, and this could [Removed for Content] them. But guardians are the black sheep of the archtype design.</P> <P>So, if you don't want anything besides a guardian, you better go play DDO beta. I know I am ... :smileytongue: (*hits refresh on e-mail inbox AGAIN*) well, I will go when they see my application .. hehe .. ow man ... :smileysad:</P>

It's my understanding that Guardians were a very popular class pre lu13, and even more so when compared to the variety of other fighters that you would see. I think we have been intentionally nerfed by SOE, in terms of utility and fun, to encourage people to play other classes. In time, the numbers will balance as new players choose Guards without having there former glory to compare there current infeeblement too.</P> <P>Overall? I understand the reasoning. Doesnt change the fact that I'm heart broken over the devestation done to a toon I put my soul into. It also doesnt change that the toon is efectively useless to me now. If I hadnt stopped playing him, I would have quit eq2.</P> <DIV>I still love my Guard, he is the "Little Yellow School Bus" of Tanks.</DIV>

watchout on those pickup groups. People cast "assuage" type spells on the MT without reading the descriptions at times. Its really hard to tank when 25% of your hate is being redirect/eliminated. hehe. <div></div>

Right click that crud off if someone's doing that to you. I normally reserve my assuage for the wizard I group with, but he's pretty [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] good and can pace himself just right, with or without it on him. I have grouped with an over zealous berzerker before who got slapped with the assuage stick pronto for almost getting someone killed by ripostes. <div></div>
<P>Well in the first case I mentioned above with the paly in the group, I did examine the buffs on me and nothing jumped out. But that aside something with hate generation HAS changed, whether it is with the effectiveness of our taunts or changes to other classes abilities that make them generate more hate. Last night I was with a guild group in the war room/clefts. I have exp'd there alot and I hunt with all of these people routinely (they all know how to do their part in agro management). Because the mobs alll con blue to me in the war room, agro control wasn't as much as an issue as in SC where the mobs are yellow and resist more, but there was still a noticeable difference in my ability to maintain the MOBs attention. </P> <P>Prior to LU16, I would occasionally lose agro, but not often. Last night, for the most part I held it OK, but nearly once per fight I would lose agro to someone and it took longer than usual to get it back. I always use inflamming defense and I have been taking advantage of the altered/new abilities like reinforcement, wall of might and anchor (all my terminal spells are adept III or better), but I am burning through my power faster than any other member of my group just fighting to hold agro. I am not saying I want to be able to click a button once and have agro throughout the fight, I enjoy a challenge, but I think this is ridiculous. I have to hit any hate building ability as soon as it refreshes. I used to have a well spaced routine with my taunts and CAs that allowed me to hold the MOBs attention and still have either protect or deafen available for any add. Not any more. Its becoming so tedious to maintain agro that I find myself missing group/guild chat and even hoping for a higher lvl tank to join the group so I could just dps and enjoy the company of the people I am with- which I used to be able to do AND tank at the same time.</P> <P>Im surprised more people haven't noticed this.</P>
