<DIV>I left EQ1 after playing for a looong time to try EQ2. In eq1 I had many toons, when I started playing EQ2 I made a Swashy. I played for a while and it seemed ok so I stuck with him. Then I just got bored and stopped playing. While grouping before using the scout it seemed like whenever we had a guardian in group they could manage aggro pretty well. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I started playing again last week after taking a while off and decided to make a warrior, headed toward guardian. It was one of my more favorite toons in EQ1. I was usually MA or SA and it was pretty easy to manage aggro wielding 2 hate procing weapons. Well, I didn't check these boards first  and now have some concerns. Before I put any more time into the toon I have a couple of questions. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-With the dps  the other classes are putting out, are you still able to hold aggro through levels say 20-50 using upgraded combat arts?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-What regular MA type are most raiding guilds using?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-As a guardian are you still getting regular pickup groups for exp/quests?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sorry for the long post, but I see alot of people saying guardians can't hold aggro and are being passed over for tanking purposes since a big patch. I'm just try to save myself some frustration in not enjoying a class I loved so much before. I realize it's not the same thing as EQ1, nor will it be, but looking for something similar.</DIV>

You'd probably be happier playing EQ1 until Vanguard is released.  Guardian in eq2 is a boring class, and there is no fighter in EQ2 that will be as enjoyable as the EQ1 warrior.</span><div></div>

Yeah, I know they are different... Guess I'm just realizing that the Guardian class is not what I was looking for then. Thanks for your input

Guardians are still the #1 choice for tanking raid mobs.  Guards are probably about equal to other plate fighters for single group content, but currently it seems that brawlers are the kings in any situation where they won't get insta gibbed on a failed avoidance check.  Guardians aren't all that great at soloing, though it is still a viable option.  Basically you are going to hear a lot of naysaying from the people in this particular forum.  Guards have some problems with regards to utility, and plate tanks in general have a few disadvantages compared to brawlers.  But it is not NEARLY as bad as they want you to think.  However, if you are expecting an overpowered class like the warrior in EQ1 you will be disappointed.  Current FOTM (Flavor of the Month) classes are rangers, bruisers, furies, necromancers, and conjurers.  Pick one of them and be uber until the nerf bat strikes if that is your thing.  <div></div>

<P>The warrior in EQ1 wasn't overpowered-  I could hold aggro and take a good beating, dps wasn't my job... I might keep going for a few more levels. Thanks for your insight and honest opinion :smileywink:</P> <P> </P>

OK, the warrior in EQ1 may not have been overpowered.  The other tank classes just happened to be severely underpowered in comparison.  At least one aspect though, the defensive disc, was undeniably game-breakingly over powered.  <div></div>
