Players of a variety of classes got together to brain-storm on their ideal groups.
----------------------------
" Now the choice of a monk tank vs guardian - I like tanks that don't get hit. You see when tanks dont get hit, my wards are refreshed only when the time runs out and I dont waste power. And up to now I have had the most amazing gaming with monks and bruisers that hold aggro like no ones business yet make healing a total bliss This leaves the DPS. Ive chosen brigand, you've chosen swashbuckler - its all good. Likewise with the wizard for great dps. Best part is in my group you have extra DPS - the bruiser can dish out a bucket load of damage (your guardian can not) and the defiler DOTs/Debuffs really make a kitten out of a jungle cat (Fury debuffs I believe are not as srtong but they do have strong DD)."
----------------------------
"IMO I would substitute Beserker over a Bruiser. Not that above group isn't nice, it is. Beserkers have very impressive AoE damage, and hold group aggro better than a Bruiser (nothing against Bruisers, I have one myself). If you aren't worried about your tank having an edge in aggro, then by all means, go Bruiser (or Monk)."
----------------------------
"Personally I would go with in a single group

Zerker(ok DPS(for a fighter), good taunts, Heavy Armor)(guardians are being worked on)"
----------------------------
Honestly though I have not noticed issues with this as a defiler on warrior tanks at all (I have grouped with both guardians and berserkers that have held aggro very well with many DPS classes). However as I said previous, I much prefer monk tanks as my primary choice - with bruiser being my absolute first.
----------------------------
Guardians are far from the strongest solo'ers in the fighter tree, so you'd think they'd be good in groups. As "protectors" you would think that other players would like grouping with Guardians for the added safety they provide. However, not one poster in this thread even mentions Guardian group buffs, damage intercepts, or taunts. Not one said they preferred a Guardian as their main tank, although there were those who chose Monks, Bruisers, Zerkers and Shadowknights. I think this shift in perception towards the Guardian class is something that should be seriously considered by the dev's. Players who chose to play Guardians were making a concious decision to play a class that might not shine when alone, but would be group friendly, and therefore desired in groups. I have no problems finding groups. I group within my guild pretty much exclusively. However, it bothers me that the group-oriented class I chose, which sacrifices all solo utility for the sake of group oriented skills, is viewed as the worst possible choice for the role of tank in a group. That's not balanced.

Message Edited by Corvan on 10-29-2005 03:23 AM
