**Ok, serious post here. I know some people (and we know who) are gonna hijack it into flames. But please ignore her.** One of the things that struck me today reading some of the remarks on flavour is that in fact this problem guardians have is exactly one of flavour. Prior to LU13 we were ultimate tank flavour. Plain and boring I know. But no accounting for taste. But now of course there is no ultimate tank flavour. So whats a guardians flavour. Well I began by thinking what is it people say to themselves when they pick certain classes? What thoughts would they have that might actually make me want to play their class. I magine things like the following: Paladin : I want to fight with honour and heal the righteous. I enjoy being self sufficient but welcomed in groups. Berzerker: Im wearing armour but im not waiting for the eneemy to come to me, im gonna go to him and put my boot in! Axe, enemy, whats to explain?? Monk: I want to avoid my enemies and be as impossible to hit as the wind, I want to be as strong and centered as the earth, and I want to crash down like a wave on my enemies. I need no armor and weapons to win my battles! Bruiser : I like to 'fump things real 'ard! And if dey dont fall over? I kick em in der nadgers! (I always picture either Detrius the troll, or Bigby from train spotting) SK : I want to cut my enemies down and the drink their souls!!! MUHAHAHAHA! Guardian : "I want to be the unsung hero! The one noone thinks is useful (hence unsung) but is kinda dependable and sorta helpful in a defence kinda way!" Lets face it, im not convincing anyone with the guardian. Not sure about everyone else, but I am having a hard hard time imagining what would go through someones mind when picking a guardian now. What flavour are they looking for? Now to all non-guardians who think they are clever and want to post 100 witty thoughts i want to remind you that the question is what thoughts would be going through a guardians head when picking a guardian NOW (post lu13) that would excite you and make you want to play the class. And im serious. I want something sexy that will motivate guardians to love their class. "I want to be reliable" isnt gonna hack it. Message Edited by MrDizzi on 10-27-2005 11:44 AM

/Nelson style on AHA !!!! /Nelson style off Guardians are a F**** error. They should not exist. But the dev team left them in for 9+ months, thus, leaving a lot of us get to 50+. Now we are on twilight zone. They would have done a lot better if they simple scrapped the class. Tell us flat and clean: "You have an open slot for a char, as guardian class is no more, plase make any other class you see fit. OR LEAVE US ALONE AND GO AWAY ... Best regards, SoE CORP.(WE SAY SO)" Bah. I am distressed.

This is what I choose to feel when I play my guardian, and I have a blast. The reason the devs wont make sweeping changes is because they are not needed, guardians are percieving to be ineffective all around, but really we are not. If you have the mindset that you suck, you will believe that you suck, and find all problems you can. The protection abilities guardians get were around when you created your guardians, but you only care about them now. Why didn't you ask for them to be changed before? I personally chose guardian because i feel like a defensive tank who can take anything on and survive, and i can, so i'm happy with it. Be a guardian because you want to be a defensive armored tank ready to take on any challenge.

If I was to roll up a guardian tonight, these are the thoughts that would fill my mind. I do not have any alts thus I'm exactly the type of person who should respond to this thread - as I'm not biased - but basing my thoughts purely on perception. Not game mechanics.

Have only used it 2 times. Once in CT to keep the raid from wiping. Once in EF doing the dragon there. Was nessisary for me to be on my feet for another 30 seconds to take down the dragon. Sooooo in the 6+ months the spell has been out 2 times.

I’ll not let them down. <hr></blockquote> Its a good effort but to be honest it sounds more like the pre-lu13 guardian. Its all about tanking with nothing else and tanking isnt a flavour now. Since LU13 you could have been describing any mitigation tank if you ingore the other stuff they have. it has to be flavour that doesnt make it sound like a better tank, because thats not going to happen.

Ok, one effort and that was it? Thats not very hopeful is it? Perhaps the question was too poetic in nature focusing on a 'feel'. Ok lets simplify it then, what is it that gives each fighter its flavour? When you pick a fighter you know youre a tank but you pick that fighter because it also has .....? When you want to be a fighter that takes it to the enemy (bezerker) you pick a tank that also has good damage. So lets try again for each class and see if I get more responces. "I want to play a FighterX because i want to tank and have .........."Paladin : healsSKS : life drainsmonk : good damage, self healbruiser : good damagebezerker : good damageguardian : ?Gimme some suggestions that we can turn into a flavour. To me: Monk: Kung Fu master with some weird Kai abilities Bruiser: Bad [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] mofo that just likes to punch things till they're soft Paladin: Devout knight seeking to eradicate evil Shadowknight: Meglomaniac knight looking to gain power from forbidden magic Berserker: Crazed warrior that minces things unable to feel pain until the battle is over Guardian: Hulking hero that wades into the middle of enemies to protect his team from harm. As was the only other person to try.Guardians flavour is : taking hits for the group.The problem is the very definition of tanking is 'taking hits for the group'. In a very real sense the guardians flavour is his role. So what we need here is some way for Guardians to 'take hits for the group' without it being the same as 'tanking' and for this flavour to have a noticable impact on the game so as to make it as desirable flavour as 'dps' flavoured.

They should just scrap the whole thing. 6 Fighter classes are 5 too many, so getting rid of Guardians (and 4 other classes) are an easy solution. People want to be the "best" tank whether they are Monks, Bruisers, Paladins, Guardians, Berserkers, or Shadowknights so just mash em together, call them Fighter and let them be the "best" tank. Please, for the sanity of us all, if I have to read one more "Suggestion" post it's going to cause me to spontaneously combust.
