I had heard that assassins took a big hit because of LU13 (and I know how bad it sucks) so I headed over to their forums to check things out. I was reading through some of the threads and noticed a lot of them talking about getting feedback from devs. Apparently they are being told specifics of what is being evaluated, dps being one of them, and that they will be happy with the changes. I think that is great for Assassins but at the same time it makes me feel like a second class citizen. All that I have read on the Guardian forums (I might have missed something) is "We are looking into it". Looking into what? How about something tangible. DPS is the assassins primary role much as defense and Mit is ours. How about looking into that? This is really frustrating to be honest.

Well, we did have dev's posting here in the past. They kept coming up with different arguments telling us we were balanced. They told us that we grant our protection to other classes better than other fighters, and we pointed out that the best protection buffs are the ones that allow the target to make extra avoidance checks based on the caster's avoidance, so brawlers actually do a better job there since they have those buffs too and much higher avoidance. They told us we hold aggro better, and we pointed out that the DPS disparity between us and brawlers was large enough that they were able to hold aggro better on single targets. They told us that the low DPS of warriors was to off-set our ability to hold aggro against multiple encounters better than brawlers, so we pointed out that Zerker DPS was actually right up there with bruisers, and even far above in spikes. They eventually tried to tell us we're the "unsung heroes" because, even though nobody can figure out what the heck we seem to do that's worthwhile, we're actually somehow really great. We're just to dumb to know it. (Boy did that one go over well!) You know what? I think the dev's gave up trying to talk with us. They thought we were balanced. We disagreed, and we were winning the arguments. So they stopped trying to argue with us and left some poor moderator here for us to chew on. Last we heard from a dev, they were trying to come up with a way to "better define" the role of the Guardian sub-class, whatever that means. Frankly, I suspect they either don't know what to do with the Guardian class or just don't think there's anything wrong. If you're playing a Guardian, you'd better get used to the class as is, re-roll, or quit. The magical patch that un-breaks the Guardian class is probably a long ways off, if it's even coming at all. (Might not be until the next expansion, or even the next combat revamp.) There is still some fun to be had playing the game. You just need to put balance issues out of your head when playing so you can actually have that fun.

Message Edited by Corvan on 10-22-2005 02:57 AM

"Looking into it" means that they don't really see any problems and are waiting to see if the fuss dies down. If guardians are still unhappy and complaining after some amount of time (think months), or if the numbers drop a lot, they will revisit the issue. Until then, they are going to chalk up all the angry posts to people not liking their role being changed (which is what they set out to do, so they aren't going to do anything about it.)

I played a ranger in EQ1, and for those who don't know, they got hit with the nerf stick hard with the first expansion came out. Rangers came out in droves posting why the new vision for a ranger didn't work. We were told we just didn't understand how to play after the changes, they had tested it internally and it was ok, they made a ranger on the live servers and it played ok to them, etc (any of this sound familiar?). Eventually (2 years later) basically every issue that was raised by the ranger players was addressed, but it took a long, long time.

This set of devs might surprise me, but we are probably in for quite a wait before they change anything.

Krueger
