Disclaimer: This is not an opt for serious change, rather just me venting my displeasure. The Guardian. The player protector. The... player killer? Wait a tick. I have been dueling a lot today on my Guardian, and have found the experience pretty empty. I played on beta, and dueled with a beta-buffed (Bumped to lvl 50 and given average grade tradeskill gear) Dirge and Necro which were flat out FUN to fight as, with thier utility spells and strategy. I hadn't tried my Guardian in PvP, only PvE combat. Not that I am fighting other players on the live server, it has become painfully obvious that I'm really not equipped to enjoy myself in PvP, since most of my abilities are damage intercepters (which are great for grouping now), and taunts. I wouldn't go as far as to say that Guardians CAN'T PvP and they suck yadda yadda moooaaan. In fact, if you use your abilities correctly, and pick the right buffs to have on, and at decent qualities, you can win here and there. We are not the Kings of PvP, but then again, we shouldn't be. No one should, really. What I'm dissapointed about is the lack of involvement in the duel. There isn't really any situation where you're saying, "MAN! I should have used that ability!" and the likes, because to be honest, besides my buffs, I only have about 9 abilities that I'm using in a duel at lvl 50. They are: -Staggering Slam, for its 3.5 second stun -Cleave for, its DoT to stop Scouts from frickin hiding -Retaliate, for its pacify (which I haven't actually noticed) -Deafen, for its 0.2 second cast time interrupt -Blast, for its massive damage -Swamp, for its interrupt -Vindication, from time to time for its power drain, which ends up not even mattering due to the length of the duel. It's just not gonna happen enough to cause any serious damage usually. Used when all of the aforementioned are down. -Unerring Strike, for its extra little bit of damage, because everything else is down.
So basically, the best strategy I've been able to come up with is: "DEAFEN, cancelling your innitial ability with its superior cast time! <--- (fun with strategy) Chase that mutha down, try to stun, cleave, hit my big attacks, interrupt stuff, ummm yeah drain power, unerring strike, I'm damaging you..... everything's down... stay on them and auto attack! Die!!! Deafen! Cleave! Swamp!.... uhh power drain........ stay on them! auto attack hoooo! Shield bash!... ohhh if only I could blast you again!" well you get the point. That's all less whatever they're doing to me. Such as my favorite: "$&@#*, what's going on?? Oh the Scout stunned me.... hmmm.. I'm still stunned, and he's just auto attacking me.... where'd he go?......... OWWWWWWWWWWWW half of my life is gone!.... Am I still stunned?" [That's just my animosity towards scouts talking ] Pretty much the point I'm trying to make is that Guardian pvp to me is trying to stun you for 3.5 seconds, enough time for me to lay out my biggest hits, then I'm just trying to beat you down with my poor DPS. After all, we're Tanks, not DPS. We need our tank abilities, and I would never trade them for DPS ones. However, my dueling experience does suffer, and that is (for me) a little harder to swallow, as I was really looking forward to PvP. Once again, this is just me venting. The views expressed here are also a matter of opinion and experience, unique to me. As with any opinion, there will be others that differ, and we must always remember that we all have a right to our own opinions, and we learn more from intelligent analysis and rational discussion than thoughtless, beligerant attacks of irrational disagreement. So if anyone wishes to respond, in agreement or disagreement, please do it maturely and respectfully! Also feel free to post your own experiences, or ideas on the strategic slaughter of our foes (or good friends)! I'd love to hear about new methods I haven't thought of myself!

Message Edited by Skarsis on 09-21-2005 07:20 AM
