<DIV>Hey everyone, I'm not too experienced in the Raid MT position, as a matter of fact, I'll admit I have close to none. I occassionaly tank some epicx2, epicx3, maybe even some adds on actual raids. Can't say I've tanked anything like Vox or Darathar or any contested though. But I am about to go into a position where I could be Raid MT, or at least Secondary Raid MT, to step in when MT is gone, or to off-tank when this is the correct strategy. I notice on some raids there is even a second tank to step in if for some reason MT goes down and someone else has to take agro before Zalak or whoever murders everyone else.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am really confident in my ability to tank, I can say I almost never lose anyone in my group unless they're a complete idiot and decide to pull a Leeroy. But I wasn't completely sure if my role as Raid MT/Secondary, and if it is identical to that of me as Group MT. I'm sure there is plenty of experienced guardians who could give me some feedback on this. As much as info as possible welcome.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks in advance.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>*Edit* Almost forgot, when I'm just there to be there on some of my old raids, I just sort of try to hang out, buff, and what DPS I can. Can anyone else think of something I can bring to the table when I'm not MT?</DIV><p>Message Edited by killjaden on <span class=date_text>08-17-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:04 PM</span>
<DIV>Well you are in for a big surprise :smileywink:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Raid tanking is quite different then group tanking. I just hope you have friendly borther Fighters in your guild who will give you hints and tips about encounters. MY advice would be to do nothing but observe the encounter that you are gonna tank before attemping to MT. I would say best way to MT for an encounter is to MA for it first... Just learning (without wiping the raid) against which mobs to turn auto attack off is a pain :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When you are not MT in a raid you bring passable DPS depending on your gear and lots of nice group buffs to raid. You will find that lots of mobs make Scouts weep because they are best hit with crush weapons which may amaze you with your position on raid parses<BR><BR>Good Luck :smileyhappy:</DIV>

<DIV>Thanks, but I am actually trying to prepare for the new guild I'm going to, and it won't look good at all if I go in asking questions about my role as Raid MT. I wanna let them know that I'm ready.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I know I won't have much learning to do untill I actually do it, but I know there's a few things I can pick up from fellow Guards. I've seen plenty of Raid MT's and while I know it requires much more, it doesn't look that different from where I'm standing. Of couse you always have to position, that's obvious, I do that even when single grouping. But what else is there? What are you referring to when you say that I have to turn Auto-atk off?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Use specific encounters if you need to, I have plenty of experience raiding, just not raid MT-ing. I know there is a lot, and there is a lot of differences between encounters, but if you can just gimme some advice, some general guidelines, I'll be able to pick it up from there. I'm a fast learner and a good Guardian. I'm a little ogre sponge waiting to soak up all of your Veteran Raid MT knowledge. :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PS: I know all about ranking high on the parser :smileywink:. When I go into raids as filler I gear up for DPS.</DIV>
<P>Well, I Raid MT fairly regularly...here are some tips:</P> <P>Your job is to hold aggro. You'll get to do some hitting, but generally you want to save your power for your taunts and buffs. Power will become an issue with most Raid mobs unless you have lots of IC regen and breeze on ya. Even then the long fights can be close.</P> <P>Taunts:</P> <P> Your two best AE taunts do not work against x4 Epics. So when Raid MT'ing, take it off your bar and replace it with Seloxia's Daunting.</P> <P> Also put the low level Fighter taunts on your bar that don't share reuse timers with your guardian taunts.</P> <P> Group buffing is excellent aggro generation...do it when you can and power reserves permit it.</P> <P> Shield bashes stun...also good aggro and not much power consumption.</P> <P> </P> <P>Power:</P> <DIV> You don't want to run out. You will lost aggro fast. Manastone as often as you can, take those Conjourer shards, and sacrifial hearts and use em. Convince your wizard friend that power feeding is fun. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hitpoints:</DIV> <DIV> You want a lot. Hunt down that stamina gear. I recommend the imbued ruby rings with the stamina buff. And the shiny brass shield has some nice Stamina if you don't have one of the fabled shields yet. Make sure you have Iron Conviction up and Adept III if you can. Keep casting Commanding Presence...It buffs your HP and adds aggro. An extra 3-4k of HP can replace a healer.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Other:</DIV> <DIV> Cast vigilence on someone..doesn't matter who. It increases your parry skill. Definately have fortified stance going as well. Learn what type of damage the Mob doles out and have resist gear that is appropriate. SAcrificing a few HP and some Mitigation for 5-6k resist will usually put you ahead in the end. Once the mob is outta power you can switch out your gear on the fly to increase your Mit back.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And finally, get to know the mobs. If they have knockback...it is your responsibility to get your back to a wall. It's only funny the first time you are throw out to sea in Cove of Decay. A lot of the mobs like to move around and get themselves into the walls. Figure out the best spots to tank and use em. Never tank at their spawn since wipes happen and you will need to revive people.</DIV>

<span><blockquote><hr>killjaden wrote:<div>What are you referring to when you say that I have to turn Auto-atk off?</div> <div> </div><hr></blockquote>Ripostes can be very nasty, hitting for upwards of 4k a pop on even a well geared, well buffed tank. All it takes is a couple lucky ripostes along with the normal DPS from the monster and even the best geared tank can go from full health to dead in a matter of seconds.</span><div></div>

<DIV>Thanks guys, keep them coming, the more opinions, tips, and advice I receive, the more prepared I will be. So far it seems I've been doing a lot of this with single group hard encounters, ring events and non-raid epics and what not, but a lot of the info is new. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I allready have any taunts that are on seperate counters on my bar as well(to my knowledge this is only the taunting assault line), but not sure which Seloxia's Daunting is, I'm at work so can't get on to check :smileyindifferent:. As far as holding Agro and conserving power, I got that down. :smileyhappy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seems like things to watch out for are positioning, making sure stats are up to par with the individual epic, keeping a close eye on riposte, and then what I always do on hard encounters, hold agro, reserver power, and stun as well as buff. </DIV>

Know what the mobs weapon immunities is, otherwise you won't ever be able to hold aggro. Make sure you have one (atleast) one hander of each type of damg.

invest in t5 rare potions merinells favor kistons protection aura of the galde irontoes safeguard (not as much of this one though) hmm tips, always turn the mob away from the raid you can use protect vs epic fights, but you have to switch over to a ^^ to cast it then switch back to the ^^^ when tanking a encounter with multiple mobs i found you dont really need to worry about targeting anything but the main guy ( this is for encounters with only 1 ^^^ ) invest in enchanted rubicite helm, blackened ebon helm, and thulzite helm , soot foot is okay, but i found the hps not worth it vs the thulzite <div></div>
<P>SEloxia's is the AE taunt that you can get from one of the training upgrades after you level. I don't remember what level you get this option, but it is adept II quality and does just about as much hate as SMothering Cry at Adept I.</P> <P>As for using protect, you can switch to a ^^ to cast it, but it WILL NOT add hate on the ^^^, only the side mobs. As MT, you generally only need to worry about the ^^^'s the MA will take the wimpy adds.</P> <P> </P> <P>Good comments about reposte. I've learned something today too. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P> </P> <P>As for not using a weapon that the mob is immune to, this is not necassarily a bad thing. Very little of your aggro actually comes from your melee. I use the Screaming Mace against Drayek even though he is immune to crushing. The power proc is golden and far outweighs the hate reducing effect and the mob's immunity to it.</P> <P> </P>

Using the mace I have lost aggro only once, and it was only for as long as it took to cast another taunt. Good point about the attacks that require you to hit the mob though...hadn't crossed my mind...but hasn't been an issue for me to date. Our chanter is back from vaca though, so power won't be as big of an issue. I'll be using my new fabled 1h axe. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've raided with you guys quite a bit too Jnewby. Tuesday night as a matter of fact. Wish I could more, but our times conflict a little. I play later than you guys start. SRA has been fun, we use a few different people as MT, so that role doesn't get tiresome. A night of MT'ing is very tiring, so doing it occaisonally is a nice treat. If Flank and Dynth want a break some night, drop me a tell. I'll hold em for ya, and I raid buff to over 9k HP generally...over 10k in the right group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>heh, send me a tell in game anyway so I know who the heck you are. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>
