Hey, I'm new to the entire fighting scene, and was wondernig what would be the best kind of weapons while soloing? Shield & Sword, Two hander, or Dual Wield? I'm in a few legendary pieces of armor that are pristine imbued, so maybe that's enough to compensate for the lack of shield and use 2h or dual wield? I don't mean to be a jerk, but how are you new to the fighting class and have pristine imbued armor already?Just wondering...Anyway, if you new to the fighter class and on a 50th level toon, I would recommend some mentoring to learn your class. People won't mind a tank at 20th who doesn't know what they are doing. The walk to stormhold is a lot easier than the walk from say...the Sol E entrance to the Bastion of Flames.

Or a good guild. Depending on what you are hunting I usually try and use two weapons that do high damage. Preferably of different damage type to keep the skills up.

The reason I said I'm new to the fighting scene is because it's my first fighter type char. Btw, the pristine imbued armor is the Pristine Imbued Carbonite stuff. <DIV> DPS wise there isn’t much in it between 2handers and dual wield, choose your pref. 2handers mean a bit less riposte damage, dual wield means a shield is speedily equipped. Dual wield also enables you to keep two skills maxed. You will also want a tower shield/one hander combo for heavy duty group tanking, tho you may prefer to just have one really nice dual wield weap for that, since melee DPS isn’t terribly important in those situations. Its not often you actually need the shield, but it can make a big difference versus some pain in [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] named mobs you con low against. When you can, work towards your PGT, this weapon is a compulsory acquisition. Stormhold isn’t silly advice btw, you may get lucky and get the Berik quest drop, which is both a nice one hander sub 30, and used to enhance the BBC later. On the other hand SH is a pain in [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] compared to Splitpaw, and not terribly viable solo except vs heroic greens while you are between level 22 and 25 – and then you have to watch the level 22 tempest roamer that is a total pain in [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]. With regards bows, get a long bow (range 35), preferably one with a proc and ok stats as you will get a lot of long term use out of it. Other than that my only advice would be to play close attention to skills/appivs/adept1s. Unfortunately coming changes mean you will need to be cautious here with your gold/plat or run the risk of finding something that’s great now is utterly useless in a months time.</DIV>Message Edited by Athilnaur on 07-27-2005 06:59 PM

An yes, even into your 20s where you have imbued carbonite, which is going for penny-gumball prices, you are a newb to tanking. Now as for the orginal posters question, what do you use. It all depends on the mob. As a guardian, if the mob is below you, unless a named, you are better off using dual wield, such as fighting batons or a short delay piercing/slashing weapon. At 50, I use pristine imbued cedar fighting batons, in your early levels you should be able to pick up etched steel fighting batons for gumball change. If the mob is an even con you can go with dual wield, a decent 2 hander (such as one of the many great hammers or great axes), or back to sword&board (although I prefer hammer & board). All of them work, all should be effective. If the mob is higher then you or an even conned named, I would say slap that board up in his face IMO. You get a good boost in avoidance from a shield of any form, which makes it well worth it for higher mobs, as well as many PC made shields having imbued procs and some dropped/quested having them as well.

Thanks for the advice Uummuuanu. Instead of getting both a two hander and dual wield, I think I will go with just dual wield for eqaul/lower level mobs to keep slashing and crushing up. <div></div>

BAD idea, you need to keep all 3 skills up not 1 not 2 but all 3 <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> If you want to go cheap, get a peirce + crush for DW and a slash for 2h or 1h but keep ALL 3 up. I carry 4 dw's 3 2h and 3 1h at all times plus 2 shields.
