<DIV>The way i think it works is resists are an avoidance for that type of an attack.  is this correct?  or the higher the number the more mitigation on that type of attack?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have a piece of armor that gives me +300 in resists but -25 mitigation and cant decide if i should use it or keep with what i have.</DIV>

<P>Resists are mitigation against spells... Avoidance comes with the 'Spell Avoidance' skill (and with the changes going in and out of Test, will be modified by Int vs Wis).</P> <P>The percentage mitigated is supposedly [ResistValue] / [MobLevel].... So 4000 resist will give 80% mitigation against a level 50 mob, or 72% mitigation against a level 55.</P>

<P>I base it on 100 per attackers level for effective mitigation.</P> <P>If the mob is level 50, I want to have 5000 resist. Now when it's ^^ or ^^^ and a raid mob it won't be 100%, but by this standard I've yet to get nuked or AE'd very hard at all.</P> <P>Depending on Group Makeup, and gear choice I can get Poison to 6000 or Fire/Cold to 5600/5800. So I feel I can mitigate the heavy nukes of any mob up to level 59-60 as long as I've pumped the correct resist.</P>

So is there much use for Arcane Resistance?  I never see anyone really mention that as being a factor anywhere.  I assume this is for the generic Magic attacks - but maybe it plays a part in every magic attack? <div></div>

There are a fair few attacks using these damage types, but there aren't the big hits like with Poison, Cold and Heat.

thx all for the information.  been very helpful.  so the way i understand it poison, cold, and heat are the primary resists and everything else is just gravy.  for now anyway...

Now it is hard to find items that have different stats in a particular slot, but I assure you they are out there.  Just keep looking if you really want to tweek around Jewlrey.  If you are NOT a main tank, it really doesnt matter what your mitigation is on raids.  9,000,000 mitigation is not going to help vs a 4000 point poison AE.  My suggestion is get various gear for certain raid mobs.  It doesnt have to be expensive but just boost the resist in particular spots.  There is a big difference between 2999 poison and 3000 poison (just an example)... always push to the next tier (IE every 100 resist).</P> <P>Now for us MTanks out there... this is a double edge sword.  Drop mitigation of armor for some good resists....  Well, Im not a huge fan of changing armor (but I will tweek jewlrey as stated) since most mobs hit for more melee attack damage vs spell damage.  If it is a matter of "one shotting me" with a poison 12k bolt or something, then sure ill change some stuff out.  If I can survive the spells, I basically go for max mitigation and avoidance on armor.</P> <P>Hope that helped some.</P>

<DIV>If having to switch out gear I usually try to replace the most non-essential pieces. Head,Belt,Rings and sometimes necklace and gloves are usually the pieces I switch out.  Try to get the gear with the most resist and mitigation on it. Truthfully i have only had to switch out gear once while tanking and it turned out that it was uncalled for. Its really not that important to have resist gear although it can be of a slight advantage in some situation but thats why you have good healers to back you up <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

But some raid mobs, exp when certain classes are not available, and when say duoing against named 50+ caster mobs, both are life changing situations when switching to resist gear. </span><div></div>

<P>there is no raid mob in this game that it is crucial to switch out gear.</P> <P>any single group heroic caster mob should never be able to cast since u can see the mob cast the spell and rotate your interupts accordingly</P>

<DIV>I like to switch out gear for Tremblar because he doesn't hit THAT hard, and I like to come out with 100% gear, not having been damaged by his AE.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Other AE mobs I get my buffs, then switch out 1-2 pieces to get up to 6k heat or poison (had 7500 heat the other day, so took off the resist gear)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My point is that most mobs melee is a joke even if you only wear ebon, and the trend I noticed was that a very large chunk of damage done to me has been via spells. By giving up mitigation to resistances, these mobs can hardly outdamage a templar reactive, so yes I'll always switch out mitigation gear for resist gear, unless the mob is known to have higher then normal melee dps.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But, a lot of the new fabled armor I've been getting has high resists, so it's nice to not have to switch them out</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Fabled Legs 380 mit, 560 Poison resist</DIV> <DIV>Vox BP 634 mit, 440 cold resist etc etc</DIV>
