<P>Have to disagree with Arielle,</P> <P>I recently mentored down to 15 with my dirge and found that, my armour did nothing at all because at level 15 scouts cannot wear medium armour (having no skill in its use). So in effect I was naked and it really hurt. Knowing this, for my Guardian I kept my set of medium armour for such occasions. </P> <P>So yes - if you want to mentor below 20 then do keep your armour. Wearing the same jewelry and weapons is fine though since you already had the skills to use those pre-20 and thus they do scale down. </P>

<P>Arielle, </P> <P>Yeah my medium was acting like it was literally not there at all; my mitigation was almost zero (but not quite because I did have jewelry on). [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] those sonic shriekers can really hurt you when you are fighting them naked at level 14 :smileyhappy:</P> <P>As to the magic affinity for jewelry - yeah these do scale down since at level 15  (for example) you have do the magic affinity as a skill (I think - I'll have to check when I get home ) and therefore your level 25 ring would just become a level 15 ring.</P> <P>The problem realy only occurs when you mentor down to below the sub-class level for certain classes only ie those classes whose armour type changes at this level. So all the robe wearers, brawlers, remain unaffected since they see no change at level 20 to the armour types they will be mostly be using.</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>I found it!  This is a cut and paste right from the 'mentoring' page on the website:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"When you Mentor another player, all maintained spells will be dropped from your character. <STRONG><FONT color=#009999>The effectiveness of your gear will scale down to the same level as your Apprentice.</FONT></STRONG> You will function as if you really are the same level as your Apprentice, so you need to use spells and arts that are appropriate for that level."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What this says to ME is...even if you are a heavy armor wearing lvl 50 Guardian, and you mentor a lvl 18 Warrior, your pristine imbued ebon armor will scale down to the effectiveness of medium/chain mail armor...but the better stat stuff.  Not 'disappear entirely' from Mitigation.  Having to keep a bag full of gear to be able to mentor someone is just silly, IMO, and isn't doing what they said it would do.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I think it's a /bug.  Not like it'll be fixed, but it's good to know.</DIV>

<P>I have done it, and my armor all dropped to 0 mitigation if you mentor to level 19 or lower.  Level 20+, it doesnt drop to zero, but it does go way lower that you would expect if the item becomes red to you (blackened alloy breastplate droped from 320ish to 15 mitigation when i mentored to 21, iirc).  Unless this gets reworked, you will need to carry armor for each level range you plan to mentor for.  People that ask me to mentor, I ask if the have a spare set of unatuned gear, or if they have another tank.  My weapons still work, and CAs do level appropriate damage, but i cannot tank while mentoring unless there are 3 healers in the  group.</P>
