View Full Version : Power consumption?
<DIV>ok, on my 46 conjuror i group with a 48 (maybe 47) guardian a good amount of time. whenever im in a group with him he is constantly low or out of power. he says he has to use all the damage abilities he has to keep aggro, but i dont think he should burn through it that fast. i know he uses good drink, and i constantly give him my mana shards. any idea what could be done to lower his power consumption?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Haifong</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>46 conjuror</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Befallen</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Officer of Order of the Black Dragon</DIV>

<P>Well you spelled the problem out right in your question. He thinks he needs to spam damage arts to keep aggro. Damage is the least efficient way to generate Aggro. He should be holding aggro with Taunts and Buffs. Does he realize that Vengeful Strike/Taunting Challenge/Slate's Invigorating Threat/Taunting Blow are all on different timers? Has he upgraded all his taunts and buffs to at least Adept I? Does he use Commanding Presence (short duration group buffs generate lots of aggro) and/or Hold the Line+Topple to generate multiple encounter aggro? </P> <P>Taunts & Buffs will generate much more hate than our damage abilities and do it for less power. Yeah he'll do a little more damage spamming combat arts but the increased downtime between fights won't be worth it. He should still throw in a Retaliate/Cleave/Ferocious Charge/Vindication/Topple depending on the situation but in a group setting where other classes are doing more damage than you he shouldn't be trying to damage race them, even if he manages to pull it off, he'll be oop all the time.</P> <P>- Rorrak</P>

<DIV>Damage is something you shouldn't even bother trying to max as a guardian your job isn't dp's its to tank and you won't outdamage most classes (unless there asleep at the keyboard). Best thing you can do is get your taunts upgraded to adept 3, commanding presence is another good one for aggro that wasn't mentioned above (don't use when your trying to get it back)</DIV>
well i realize he shouldnt use damage to keep aggro (i have a 35 pally. only way i keep aggro is buffs really lol) and i know he has all his spells at least app4, not sure but a few are probably adept3. i really just wanted to start a thread i could tell him to come look at lol. he wont believe me no matter what i say just because i dont have a tank his level :smileyhappy:

<DIV>He could also try just easing up on the taunt/damage and see how it goes. He could be generating hate way over what is needed to keep mobs off you. You also could help with that by trying to reduce your hate generation, for instance by using 'clean' dps spells rather than damage spells with built-in debuffs, using your hate reducer spell(if you have one..) etc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>well, he's from belgium and cant seem to get it in his mind that im not saying he doesnt keep aggro, just that he uses too much mana doing it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and P.S. </DIV> <DIV><BR> <BLOCKQUOTE> <HR> Mentin wrote:<BR> <DIV>He could also try just easing up on the taunt/damage and see how it goes. <P>Just thought I'd post some thoughts on this subject. When I do actually group, the group almost always consists of 3 DPS classes an Inquisitor, Enchanter and myself. This combination seems to work perfectly fine for me and out of all the people the Inquisitor's power never moves (unless the Enchanter forgets to recast Mez on any adds).</P> <P>I have never had any problem holding aggro from all other members of my group and I only have 1 Adept 3 spell (Shouting Cry), the rest are either Adept 1 or Apprentice 4. My method consists of pulling with an arrow (of course), running back to the group while casting Suppress and then turning the mob around so it has it's back to the entire group. This method ensures maximum DPS time from the scout classes as they do not have to run around to find the creatures back and also stops the slight aggro boost that is caused by someone casting in front of the mob.</P> <P>Once I have flipped the mob I will start alternating between Taunting Challenge and Suppress while hitting Shouting Cry when it pops back up again. I will do this until the mob is at around 40% health. I would normally have lost about 10% power by now and so will throw in a couple of quick cast attacks (True Strike, Ruin maybe Crush although its cast time is slower). Then sit back and let the others finish the critter off.</P> <P>When the fight ends the DPS classes have around 60-70% power, the healer is full and I am almost back to full again. I immediately rinse and repeat the whole process. The only time we stop chain pulls and take a break is if someone needs to go AFK.</P> <P>Anyway that is my experience with holding aggro. Now that I just got Vengeful Strike I have started to use that in the midst of my method above but have noticed a larger power drain (chaining 3 abilities instead of 2), so I only use it occasionally.</P> <P>I forgot to mention that I am almost always the second lowest in the group with the DPS classes being at least 2-5 levels higher than myself.</P> <P>Skale</P> <P>38 Guardian</P> <P>Proud Officer of Souls of Betrayal</P> <P>Najena Server</P><p>Message Edited by Skale on <span class=date_text>05-21-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:56 PM</span>

Funny thing. This is almost identical to what I do as a 38 Guardian in group as MT. It seems to be very effective unless you have trigger-happy casters with 600 damage nukes. :smileymad:
