I am not high enough to be called a guardian yet, with this alt.

I am wanting to know what to expect for him.

Some people thought I was silly to make a guardian, saying a berserker would be an overall better character, while still having all the important defensive abilities I would ever need.

I have trouble thinking a guardian could be so without merit, and I would like to have some opinions with experience fill me in.

Looking at the combat changes coming down the pike here's a very basic comparison.

Guardians Tank Above Average, Guardians DPS Below Average

Beserkers Tank Average, Beserkers DPS Average

Now if you tweaked your Beserker for tanking: He'd be a better tank, but his DPS might suffer.

I guess we will have to see what happens when these changes take effect.

Beserkers are better all around characters. Guardians are more specialized to be defensive tanks. That certainly has some merit in some situations but it really depends on you as to which character will be best for you.

Nah guard's can get some good DPS if you land your ho's right look at the top ranks for overall damage and you'll be surprised at who's on top, was a couple guards a while back

I think we were on top because of the ability that lets us hit ourselves for 15k damage. It throws off the statistics but is not really a usefull measure of DPS, since it only hits ourselves.

Guardians compete with Paladins for the low DPS rank of the fighters. And if for some reason thats not the way it is now, it certainly will be after the fighter DPS nerfs that are coming sometime in the next few weeks.

It's Unyielding Will, the adventure pack skill. It puts you on the verge of death for a bit, with a small heal, then when it's timer expires it does huge damage to yourself. The more HP you have and the higher the level of the skill the more damage it does to yourself, up to 15k. Guardians are not even close to the top of any legitimate damage ranking. Those hits shouldn't be included.

- Rorrak

What is the upside to this skill? I don't see much use in hitting yourself for !15k! as far as I know no one in the game can take that.
Message Edited by sjastein on 05-05-2005 11:39 PM

Ok, so I've got Bloodlines. How / where do I go about getting Unyielding Will? Are there any other Bloodlines spells, as a Guardian, I should know about?

I think you receive it once you finish the quest in Bloodlines. Every class receives a spell/ability upon completing the Bloodlines story line. Start by examining the free ring you get with Bloodlines that should get you started.
