I just came into some cash at the same time as I hit level 30 so I decided to conduct an experiment. My Templar has the D'Morte gear because I was addicted to Widsom so I decided to try Stamina gear for my Guardian. Between what I got from drops, the broker and some guild buddies I made up two full sets of armour. One for mitigation and one for Stamina

Pristine Feyiron Vanguard

Edit: no idea why I cannot link to pics hosted by Sony. here is the link.

Orc Marauder Gear

Edit: no idea why I cannot link to pics hosted by Sony. here is the link.

As you can see the orc armour has 244 more HPs but 79 less Mitigation and 77 less power. The crafter also has slightly better resists.

So what do you think? Go with the Orc gear or the crafted?

Note: these numbers are selfbuffed and no shield.

Message Edited by Siniac on 04-07-2005 01:41 AM

Personally i would always choose HP/Mitigation over power... Not that power is not very important, its just that i dont think the extra bit of max power is nearly as important as mitigation or hp. As far as hp vs mitigation, that is a never ending debate .. personally at your level i would problably go with mitigation, because unlike in everquest where cheal was a factor, and every hp you had helped you be more conservative on a clerics mana, heals are generally reactive or patches. With the extra mitigation, you take less damage from blows, meaning less heals needed to keep you restored. Another thing i noticed, as you already pointed out, is the extra svs... dont overlook these, although svs arent going to help you mitigate an axe to the face, sony just stated that svs even help mitigate damage from dots now. Just my 2cp...

Looks like an easy choice to me - Feyiron hands down. Higher avoidance, higher mitigation, higher resists, higher strength. The higher health from Orc Marauder gear is nice, but the other stuff adds up to a lot better defense.

AC and resists work everytime you need them, while an HP boost will only soak up part of the first hit when comparing two items. For an example, you find an item with plus 25 hp more than an item with better ac and resists, in a fight you get hit for 100 and in the other for 95, that puts you ahead by 20 hp after the first hit. On the second, 100 and 95 again, now you are 15 ahead, after a few more you fall behind.

hps are all that matter, think that has been said in another topic hp/mitigation/(avoidance)the sense is that you can take a hit more in difficult situations. hps just give healers more time to heal you from hard hits, reaching as far as letting you take an extra hit at all.
