View Full Version : Pulling Agro Question

Up until now I have mostly used an arrow/entrench to pull. I have been huntin in RunnyEye lately and found that if I use an arrow I sometimes get multiple encounters. If I use proximity pulling I seem to only get the one encounter I am trying for.  What I think is going on is that when you attack any mob in an encounter ALL mobs in that encounter will social aggro. If you use proximity pulling only the ONE mob that "sees" you will social aggro. It also seems that if one mob social aggroes another the second mob will not social aggro, this is probably anti train code. Has anyone else notices this... or am I a little slow and this is common knowledge. <div></div>

<DIV>  Ya social aggro is more obvious in the higher lvl dungeons. IE not so much in WC but plenty in PF.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>   I assume the one room you hate is the miner room =P I hated that place, but ya, just proxy pull one mob near to you and you should have np.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>   One thing I noticed is if I proxy pulled a mob but used my aoe taunt before all his friends arrived in that miner room sometimes I would have two groups usually with two foreman on my group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>   I felt I needed to have aggro to protect the others...what I found to work was proxy pull and cast my 40 sec buff. This provided hate and all mobs were on me, then once all arrive I will use my aoe taunt.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>  Some have said buffs only produce hate after combat has been initiated, but I am not sure what this means. On a pull I often use a buff as mob is inc (prior to actual melee engagement) and it does in fact produce hate and they all focus on me.  Perhaps they mean using a buff prior to pull won't produce hate...well duh =P that is the reasons others should buff out of combat.</DIV><p>Message Edited by English Da Guard on <span class=date_text>03-29-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:03 PM</span>

Yip the miner room is the one I had trouble with.  I found that if I pulled with an arrow I got more than 1 group.  But if I proxy pulled I would usually only got one.  I guess this is the first time I have seen a big agro difference between proxy pulling and plincking one mob with an arrow.  I still am not sure what exactly causes this ? I also noticed if I aoe taunted too quick I would get adds.  I think it acted the same as attacking a mob from a agro standpoint.  Just like you said I use buffs till they got into the hall then hit aoe taunt. Anyway I guess now that mobs are a little higher I better be more careful shooting off my arrows <span>:smileywink:</span> <div></div>

<DIV>  Yeah, pretty much from here on out in dungeons you will get adds, as it should be. Adds a nice challenge imo. RE is a majorly fubared zone too, there are rooms deeper down you can run into where the mobs don't even aggro even though they have a red border, just tread lightly =)</DIV>

Just a quick question . . . the AOE taunt that appears to be annoying other groups of mobs . . . is this the one with the Stifle effect?

Its the one that you can pick at 30. But this happens with an arrow or taunt. Only when you just easy up to the mobs can you get a single group. I thinks it just the way social agro works. When you proximity agro it seems only the one that sees you will social agro, if you attack / taunt a group all the mobs in the group will social aggro even if they are across the room and not the one you selected. <div></div>
