Best Weapon for a Tank

Hey allWe have all heard the discussions about shield v. dual wield but thats not what im interested in. I use a sheild, a very big shield and like it. So my question is what type of 1h weapon is best. I usually use a sword because i just like the idea of a warrior class with a sword and shield but im up for other options. Any thoughts? Some mobs are more resistent/immune to certain dmg types..i.e Pierce/Slash/Crush so having 1 of each type of weapon is a good idea. I consider my DPS to be of little importance when Im tanking and using a shield so i tend to lookf or weapons with good stats(health, power, strenght being the ones i look for) more than those with high dmg. Weapon delay is also a concern as it seems to effect Hold The Line which even at level 37 I find myself using alot.I currently finished the PGT heretiage quest and actually use that with a shield sometimes depending on the mob and the group makeup. Again DPS taking a backseat.

<P>I too recommend keeping all your skills up to par so you can simply pick weapons for the advantages they have and not wind up saying to yourself "Wow, that's a nice hammer, too bad I didn't keep my crushing skill up".</P>

On a a side note.. If you find yourself with low crushing/slashing/piercing skills then grab yourself some fast duel wielders...go find a grey ^^ mob with lots of HP...Entrench it and go have dinner, do laundry, watch tv, etc while you skill up =P

As a Tank a learning my lesson in EQ1 that I use 3 weapon types peircing/slashing/crush (thank the heavens there not 1h and 2h to max out) I continually keep these skills maxed. Reason for this is that you never know when you find a mob that is weak against a certain weapon type AND when a kick [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] weapon drops and it would suck if you could not use.Advice Carry 3 weapon types at all times.

all weapons of a general type have a theoretical dps of the same number... like all pristine forged stuff one hander would all have a "average" dps of the same number.

<DIV>Here is my personal opinion.  Weapons that proc dmg when using a shield don't go off enough to make them worth using if there is a better weapon otherwise out there.  I normally go for a weapon in this order when picking my weapon with a shield - Stats, Damage, then any procs.  For your level I'd say try to get Berik, Sword of Thunder if you can.  It is a great weapon, and you'll want it for when you do the EBBC.  For higher levels PGT is nice in the 30's (or ghoulbane), SBD is nice in the early 40's.  Of course top end at 50 pick up some of the really high end weapons out there.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Personally I used Berik till 30, picked up a feysteel assult axe till 38 when I picked up a PGT.  Now at 42 I'm using SBD, which will likely be my weapon till I get a master weapon, or pristmatic.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Grondax Ix'Thania</DIV> <DIV>Highkeep Server</DIV> <DIV>Genesis</DIV> <DIV>42 Guardian</DIV> <DIV>46 Woodworker</DIV>
