Before buffs no difference, it is the buffs that change mitigation.

Defense also works towards mitigation.. makes you get hit less and for less damage. It makes you "outlevel" a mob.. and when you outlevel a mob, you will get get hit less often for less damage. Go solo a white ^^ and a green ^^ and compare hit rate, but also care damage per hit. Both will be lower on the green.(this is as far as I know.. I could be wrong, but I think as your defense goes up your mitigation goes up with it..(<p>Message Edited by TunaBoo on <span class=date_text>03-09-2005</span> <span class=time_text>12:53 PM</span>

Was thinking more along the lines of Mob Attack Rating -vs- Player Defense rating.Hehe I wish I could find a group white ^^ mob I can solo =P

You can't solo the white, that's the point :pParry and deflection are flat our avoidance.. but defense seems to be a weird mixture of defense and mitigation.

I've found I'm once again able to solo blue groups with my guardian at 38ish .. wouldn't be too surprised if there were a white ^^ mob somewhere that might be soloable by a guardian with the right combo.

<DIV>I think mitigation is pretty much the same for all tanks dependent on armor type. The key to why guards take less damge is the debuffs they hit mobs with.  AE slows and stifles will drop mob dps making guards take less damage than other tanks. Add in the higher AC/defense and parry skills from buffs, they are the top tank in eq2. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Best ive been able to do recently is solo those "group" named in the new Adventure Pack teaser instance zone. At 36 they con blue ^ and show up as being group mobs..i.e "...best suited for froup of 3 or more".Thats not really saying much because i think the mobs in that instance are way overconned.
