<DIV>Hello. I am a 19 warrior who when dings 20 will be a gaurdian. I started out as a scout and have a 27 swash but just felt i needed something else. My Swash had adept skills as i was not good at taking damage so i needed to kill asap. My question is as a gaurdian besides upgrading taunts and hate gaining skills is it neccesary to upgrade the others being i am basically a meat shield? Any advice would help from you players who have been at this for awhile.</DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV>

<DIV> I think in time you would want all your spells at 50 adept 3. One the way to 50, I make sure to snatch every reasonably priced adept 1 I can find, for spells I use. Money hasn't been short because I group a lot, but I started from scratch and have done ok doing things this way. It may vary on your server though. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Right now, I have every taunt adpet 3, that is every taunt on a different timer. I have never adept 3d any of the anger line since deafen, when I get it, will be adept 3d. I have made sure to get app4s made for those type spells until I could find an adept 1. Same goes for aoe taunts, although shouting cry I adept 3d because, as of now, it is the only one to work on every raid encounter. The 30 trait seems to work on some and not others, and I choose the extra taunt anyway since you will use your single type taunts far more then your group encounter taunts. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> After that, I will adept 3 every buff, starting with the 30 second line of buffs. These generate the most hate, and therefore should have priority. As it is for buffs, there have been posts which show the difference in what buffs gives you adept 1 vs 3, and it is not much. Therefore, if you can adept 1 all your buffs, you only need to worry about the 30 second line to adept 3 once you get commanding presence. Save some money that way and then upgrade as budget permits.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Hope that helps ><</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also - having left other spells app1 would be a poor choice imho. You never know when you might be stuck and need to solo, group may need your offense if a battle goes bad. Plus, for instance, the spell retaliate, it does +500 damage, this is a nice little boost to hate as well. Shouldn't be used for that reason necessarily, but you really should try to maximize your potential and app3/4 - adept 1 all the spells you have on your hotbar. Do not think of yourself as "just a meat shield." That is a very narrow minded view of all a guardian possesses, and would be a shame to let that part of the game pass you by. You need to be well rounded, this will only make you a better guardian in time.</DIV><p>Message Edited by English Da Guard on <span class=date_text>03-05-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:37 AM</span>

Honestly.. for the best bang for your buckAdept3 tauntsapp4/adept1 buffs and melee attacksGoing app4 to adept3 does vey little on taunts or buffs... unless you really want to be hardcore MT god, then you can adept3 your buffs for the little final boost. I just suggest adept3 on taunts because they are so important, every little bit helps. On the other hand, never pass up a adept1 for a few gold, they are nice to have. You won't find a ton on broker.. so find an alch friend and make sure EVERY skill is app4+.
<DIV>When I lvl'd all my skills were app2!! The servers were new and no one was even close to a 50 alcky. The random adept 1 dropped for me in a group and I would snatch that. You can totally go to lvl 50 w/o having to break you bank upgrading... even the 5gp for app4s. You can tank fine all the same with skill. When your at 50 - I agree with tuna, get those taunts upgraded. That is all I can suggest as a minimum.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
