I posted this same thread on the berserker forum, so pls replace all references to zerker with guardian...I just basically want to know if 2h piercings, due to their high dmg and good parrying ability would be a viable alternative to the sword n' board, when playing as a guardian....what about any 2h ? Great Sword would seem like a good fit, however I really like these big spears...any info would be most appreciated Hey all...lvl 12 barbarian warrior here and I really like the berserker class. I've always been a huge fan of the war class in mmo's and see berserker as the route to take true "warrior" further. Last night when I got my hands on some coin i bought the Iron Harpoon. VERY nice dmg base (like a 9-30, 15-49 at lvl 20), no stat buffs (obviously), but when I took it out into battle it was awesome...almost too awesome. Now, using this weapon increases piercing skills. I know that when war it really doesn't matter what I use, but I want to train myself now, around what I'm going to be tomorrow. Would there be any downfall to using a great spear or something else 2h piercing? I know the weapon they give you when you become a zerker is a 2h slashing weapon, but I'm really into these huge harpoons and spears right now..nothing at my lvl does better dmg.Just figured I'd ask here because I know there's many 1h v. 2h discussions on here, but haven't seen many slashing vs. piercing threads...thanks.

Slash vs pierce just depends on the mob type.. pierce does not just magically parry or riposite more then slash... vs most mobs slash and pierce do the exact same damage.

you need to take into account delay a well. the slower the weapon the harder it hits. just because a weapon hits harder, doesnt mean that it will do more DPS than a weapon that is faster. you need to work all melee skills as there are some really sweet weapons the higher you get, and it would be a shame to [Removed for Content] your melee damage because you only worked 1 type of weapon.

Furthermore many hard/raid type mobs can only be hit by 1 weapon type. You need to have a bag of whitecon or higher "high quality" weapons around of each type to be ready for them. Whitecon due to the coming change where green con weapons wont hit raid mobs anymore.
