<DIV> <DIV>Repeating my post here and in the Paladin thread because I would like to see opinions/advices from both classes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> <DIV>Hi everybody</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I picked the crusader path (crusader lvl 12 at the moment) thinking paladins were the ones who get to buff the party but after checking the skills for both Guardians and Paladins I see Guardians also get group buffs (not to mention debuffs, stifle among others) ... so now I am wondering what are the advantages/disadvantages of being a Pally? you get few heals but other then that? and which buffs are better the Guardian's or the Paladin's? and what about the tanking ability? are they both as good?</DIV></DIV></DIV>

Pally can't use tower shield, and your buffs will give you less defence and less parry then a guardian.

<DIV>I personally think both are good tanks, but the problem comes when groups form and want the "Best" tank. In those situations, the pally loses as does the sk. Of course this isnt built on sound understanding of game mechanics but more on gut feel.  I would love to see a parse of pally vs. sk vs zerker vs guardian to see the real difference in dps output. </DIV>

<DIV>Honestly, its pointless to try to "min-max" what may or may not be the best tank at this point because I dont feel all the cards have fallen yet. The same holds true for zerkers vs. guardians. I dont think we will really see these classes come out from their shell for at least 2-3 expansions (think: Van Wilder), Remember the game was designed to scale to 200 (!) levels.</DIV>

Yesterday i was grouped in rivervale at level 29, and being a little low i was worried rest of the group were 31-33 and i tanked fine (defiler and inquisitor healing) infact everyone said i was tanking better than the 32sk they had previously... the only trouble was the mobs were ^^ red level 34+ and that meant it was hard to hold aggro from the 31 bruiser.

<DIV>This issue will come up more and more and more, this is the way they designated the game, making class but none having  a real class role, but each class having the common feel for their role , exemple you thinking you ll be the buffing tank , and me ( guardian ) thinking ill be the MT. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I dont know what will happen for each class in the future, and i dont know why devs made that choice, i myself see no point making 6 class that are doing the same job and that the only difference is look and flavor .....</DIV>

Each can tank fine, just do you want abilities and tower shiled/dual wield possibilities or spells and a pony?Pallys were improved imo from beta where i left mine off quite nicly

<DIV>Actually the "who is best tank" question is not for tanks to answer. A seasoned healer will tell you who the best tank is any day. And I am sorry to say, but pally's are decent tanks, but not near as good as guardians.</DIV>

Most of the spells / skills that a Paladin uses to tank are just as easily cast on the Guardian, adding to their already formidable tanking ability. Given a choice, most healers choose a Guardian over a Paladin as MT, but I have never met a healer that didn't appreciate a Paladin in the group.

<DIV>I've been looking at the Paladin and Guardian spells/skills again, and excuse my ignorance (I just have a pally and she's still just lvl 13 so I dont have much experience in EQ2 yet), but what exactly makes the Guardian a so much better tank then the Paladin? both have many taunt skills and defense/buffs, both can wear heavy armor, both have skills to protect other players ... its really not that obvious just by looking at the descriptions, and nothing really shows that one would get hurt more then the other during a fight nor that one would keep aggro better then the other.  Do the Paladin skills use more power? or do they have less AC (other then the tower/kite shield difference)?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Paladin: <A href="http://www.eq2fantasy.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=59&page=1" target=_blank>http://www.eq2fantasy.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=59&page=1</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Guardian: <A href="http://www.eq2fantasy.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=55&page=1" target=_blank>http://www.eq2fantasy.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=55&page=1</A></DIV> <P><SPAN class=time_text>p.s. I am kinda looking for a reason to keep my paladin and wondering more and more if I shouldnt restart and make a guardian instead if they are more useful to groups then paladins.</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Yadylia on <span class=date_text>12-18-2004</span> <span class=time_text>11:32 PM</span>

Play your paladin if your comfortable with him.Sony have restated countless times that tanking ability is moderated on archtype level. Your paladin will tank fine.Keeping your armor AND jewlery better then blue con and you will have the ac/resist mitigation you need.Keep your combat arts and spells at app3 or higher. Particular your ward/healing combat arts will aid your tank ability. And ofcourse lastly play your character to the best of your ability.Granbar27 Guardian/25 Alchemist

<p>All I got to say is, I got from 1 to 40 in 3 days on my Guard due to finding groups easy, actualy I didn't even have to look for groups most the time. My palidan is still 25 and I have played him for 3 weeks with only 2 groups and I had to beg my way in.</p><p>I am a pure tank setup and I have allot of fun.</p><p>Now My guard is on hold while I get my armoring from 22 to 40 also my harvesting is crap, I have used my ranger to harvest for him because hes 3 times as fast running around, but I need to get my guard out harvesting because I am not going to use my ranger for anything but Bow, and arrow crafting for my Guard.</p><p>I think if Pallys were set up like Eq1 with fantastic heals, great buffs, and the ability to Hold there own if the Warrior goes down I think eq2 pally would be a realy fun class to to have. That said since the Guard is almost equal to eq1 Warrior in the taunting, defence, and Extreamly crazy health, There is no chance for a Palidan to do what a Guard can when tanking.</p><p>I still like Pally undead solo, thats the only thing I like though.</p>
